I just realized that this character is basically street fighters, or really any other fighting games I'm familiar with for that matter, closest equivalent of Faust from Guilty Gear. A weird pseudo zoner/midrange character with big normals, a surprisingly good mixup, a large variety of anti-airs, a spinning drill divekick, and a general game plan of zoning/spacing until they shift into a more aggressive play style once they set up their win condition. He's also like Faust in a superficial way as one of the games resident "weirdo" characters. We need more characters like this, it's a fun "archetype" if you can even call it that, I guess "mix zoners" or "setup zoners," something like that?
@@RycoreXIII he kinda is. He has a lot of buttons for zoning and a lot for rushdown. They don’t really connect that well though as the trade off so he can zone pretty well and when he’s in do some stuff but they don’t weave into each other well. Ironically I’d say teddies a lot like how necro was probably supposed to be, this trickster design that’s always able to sneak in something if you’re not paying attention.
Necro is one of the two characters (the other one being Oro) that made me want to learn 3rd Strike and I think that he's genuinely very overlooked It doesn't help that he still never came back in a newer game which is a shame imo
I think it’s because outside of stun damage and two amazing moves (Lspin and the elbow) necro can best be described as a character with a bunch of pretty good traits and a bunch of mediocre traits in third strike. Like take a character like Q who imo is one spot below necro at fourth worst, where Q has a lot of big problems like bad meterless specials terrible mobility horrendous combo options and has limited neutral but has the big strengths of very good buttons incredible damage insane durability and admittedly some pretty great ways to spend meter that some top tiers wouldn’t mind, which make Q a very popular character for people because while he maybe notably worse than necro despite how I’d tier him Q hits so much higher highs than necro. Necro simply doesn’t have anything particular big about him outside of the aforementioned stuff so it make sense people would overlook how despite(in my opinion) being bottom five is still a fairly solid pick in third strike.
Also necro and oro (to me at least) have one thing in comon, they are one of the most fun characters to see in high level of play Like, porn is great and all, but have you ever seen a optimized Oro player dribbling someone like a basketball? Or a necro master making someone have nightmares about the mere idea of being near a corner? Because those hit diferent
although i could never fully understand necro, i always loved his design. both appearance, lore and gameplay-wise. he's just such a cool guy. I miss him.
Tbf nothing is truly safe in third strike. This character has an unreactable special that’s plus on block and despite that being the most insane idea ever it’s still not a safe move.
Necro and Effie were in the background of an Sf5 stage, but they probably deserve more. It’s also worth noting that him killing Twelve at the end was funny because Necro and Twelve are loosely related.
I've been really interested in this character for the past couple weeks thank you for making this. Think I'm gonna try to learn. Also two Necro's idling next to each other is unreasonably funny
Necro is pretty awesome. He'd make a great DLC character for SF6. This also might be the first RUclips recording I have heard interrupted by a tractor of all things.
God, this game just has the best stun mechanics in the series. No contest. In addition to the stuff mentioned, I like how you can be stunned without getting knocked down. If you're mentally prepared, you can pull off some really quick stun recoveries, unlike SF5 where I just don't feel like it's even worth the effort to mash.
Yeah I fuckin hate 5’s stuns. Like it’s drains immediately. If I return to neutral and you’re under half Hp stun basically was removed as a mechanic. It drains instantly and I’ll never get another chance this round for it to play into any decision making. It feels so deliberately unfun to play with especially considering it still leads to you dying. Both sides of stun feel like shit but at least the latter is my fault for being careless.
Wow 30 minutes is pretty insane. Good job dude. This makes me wonder if we'll eventually have a video on every character in Street Fighter 3 one way or another.
It's a cool idea but there's defo some characters like Urien that honestly I just don't think I could ever do justice, still I'm super happy with how this one came out!
i absolutely love necro in 3s, i quote his intro quote of "LETS GET IT ON!" all the time. i just love how weird his voice is in this game. in tng and 2i he just sounds like a normal dude, but here hes way more different and more interesting
According to leaks no sadly he should come back tho maybe for dlc the characters and artworks have been leaked a lot of characters are missing and there’s a lot of new ones that I’m not excited for at all they have characters like necro I would take over luke or a teenage girl that fights for the 100yh time he’s just way cooler
One cool thing about flying viper, if I remember correctly, is that although the attack is kinda slow he is airborne on frame 1, which allows him to kinda get out of aegis mix-ups on wake-up or out of Oro's SA2 unblockable loops.
Decided to main necro back in 3rd strike era, purely because it was kinda cute how he did win poses with his girlfriend (RIP Ken.) Was pleasantly surprised when I ended up learning hes just a character thats solid at just about everything and happened to have such high stun you'll always be able to land whatever stylish combo you labbed in a real match. Really hope he makes a return back in SF6
Necro is absolutely one of the weirdo characters I'd love to see return in 6. A redesign together with the new visual style? NOW is when the crazy characters should shine.
Dude please keep up with the third strike content, started playing last week and can say this is an amazing fighting game with seriously well balanced mechanics a fucking crazy interesting and diverse roster. Your content on the game makes it hard to keep off this masterpiece of a game
I sometime play Third Strike casually with some friends and I decided to try Necro recently ended up falling in love with this character's gameplay and doing crazy combos by accident
When the Necros are both standing nose to nose just wiggling at one another I just imagine them being like "Bro, you're so fucking gorgeous bro." "Nah bro, that's you bro, you're goddamned beautiful."
Another excellent SF3 video. I’ve always been fascinated by Necro and though you don’t see him that often, his sparse showings make him look strong in his niche.
Dude, I just got done watching your Twelve and Chun Li videos, talk about timing. Love your insight on this game. As someone who's been playing it lately and new to the game, these videos help.
I mained him in NG, 2I and 3s. I loved Necro all the way, even if I did get thrashed by a bunch of Dudleys back at my house. Necro feels wonderful to play. I want him back, and many others do too, but I truly don't know since both Dhalsim and Blanka were confirmed for SF6 via leak. Dunno though, I can only hope!
Damn i love your content buddy, everytime i think you would have talk about other games because there isnt much to talk about anymore, you come with a new vid that i wasnt expecting, keep it up buddy, its crazy to think i used to main necro in this game, i kinda sucked with him tho, i cant wait for when you are gonna talk about other games youve never done before, like something about +R, xrd, blazblue, hell even under night could be fun to hear from you, or melty, who knows, if you really are into +R i suggest trying blazblue CF if you havent tried it yet, its so fun to learn
Love your Fighting game Gold/Garbage series. Very informative and you sneak in a bit of character from time to time. I'd love to see one for a MVC character, especially UMVC3.
There is no way I just watched a 34 min video about a game I have never played or plan on playing about a character I knew nothing about and still enjoyed it, your content is something else I’ll tell you that
I've always wanted to say- Chun-li's SF3 idle animation feels oddly lacking when compared to most of the cast. It loops a little strangely in comparison to the smoothness of Necro and others.
The motion is too even, stiff and simultaneous, that's why. For the Shotos, the pants flap after they move up and down, creating weight. For heavy characters like Hugo or Q, they lurch in an arc back and forth with acceleration factored into their idle stances Chun just moves vertically at even speed in a straight line.
It’s because she’s a later addition. I believe it’s because they held a popularity contests for characters trying to gauge interest on who they should add to third strike and she won so they had to make her with less knowledge going in from the start than makoto who was a planned new character early on so she’s a lot smoother animation wise.
I absolutely love these kinds of videos, and this is one of the better ones. You did Necro absolute justice, and helped me put some words on why he’s cool beyond his visuals and story. Fingers crossed that he will get a chance to show those old-timers Blanka and Dhalsim how it’s done some day soon.
Necro has to be one of my favorite SF3 characters from a character design standpoint. He combines a lot of qualities that just wouldn't fit together if you're going by ST/Alpha conventions and just happens to make them work. Really hope he returns in SF6, even if they want to bring back a bunch of SF2 regulars, I think he more than distinguishes himself from Dhalsim.
I really love your videos, your fighting game vids got me into SFV and your pokemon vids got me into gen3 ou - keep it up, your stuff is awesome and I look forward to every upload
@@deletedTestimony honestly I think if he had the same tools and moveset in any other game than sf3, he'd probably be decent to good He has a great set of projectiles in a game where projectiles are inherently bad because they give the opponent meter through parry Plus he got the combo grab sauce
Really cool video as always! I'd love Necro to come back along with Remy in SF6. I think the reason on why he hasn't returned is all on his character design and "weirdness", Max wasn't wrong when he said that he feels almost like a Darkstalkers character.
Necro has always been a character I've overlooked in the franchise. Unintentionally, I did what you described at the beginning of the video and looked at him as the "stretchy and electric character" replacing Dhalsim and Blanka, so I'm glad I could learn more about his tier placement. When it comes to 3rd Strike competitively, I mostly know the very top and very bottom, so I was this was a good Necro lesson!
Character-specific stuff in fighting games are some of my favorite things, too. I don’t play 3S, but the fact Necro has a ton of character specific routes is super interesting to me. I think it’s also why I adore Baby Vegeta in DBFZ. Almost all of his optimal midscreen routes are character size or character specific, but they do so much for him. They build ridiculous meter, can Special Tag or link into 6H (one of the best character tag moves in the game), and can easily get Baby to the corner, which set up lööps.
This video is literally why I'm playing third strike, never played an fg seriously before but necro is so cool I had to start recently when I saw 3s at an arcade and remembered how awesome this video makes necro seem. I'm not even playing necro ATM because I'm too bad to do anything with him but eventually I wanna get back to playing this beautiful abomination of monkey D Luffy with a car battery
As a necro main I never thought I’d see a day where you would look in depth into my main. Honestly one of the best days ever. Also I’ve watched with video at least 5 times all the way throught
The fact he's not in the Base Roster of SF6 is outright criminal. I hope he comes back via DLC in the future though. Dude is one of my favorites in SF3.
Necro returning would be cool as hell, he was one of the first characters I beat Gill as. I don't play him as much nowadays I mostly just play Alex but he's got sauce. His combos are cool, his supers are sick and his tools are super unique
@@evilmanthingva he’s kinda right. It’s modified. Joseph’s is more centered. This means it covers his back way more than necro who leans up and forward more. Same application but Joseph actually tries to use this a get off me tool.
9:16 an important thing to note that I just realized is Russia is ironically considering it’s the physically largest country in the world, one of the shortest stages in the game. Third strike stages aren’t uniform on width, and I don’t remember the exact statistics of each stages size, but necro gets more carry here than a lot of other stages.
@@BigYellowSilly it’s no marvel super heroes with size differences but urien basically needs half a loop less on this stage on necro than usual. You’re only gonna notice in VERY specific situations with characters with coast to coast carry options. On like a “big” stage necro probably would be one necro’s worth of space more distance away from the corner in this set up. The differences are generally negligible between similar levels so it’s not a common fact. I only recently learned this myself because I’ve been in a “fighting game study craze” again
I like the language you use to describe buttons. it's descriptive in a way that allows the player to use it to how they see fit. reminds me bafael. subbed
Necro is so sick, I appreciate that this series seems to celebrate cool or unique design in fighting games. It’s an aspect that I think is undervalued by many people in the community.
“The ‘get the fuck away from me’ button” got me good lol. I honestly love Necro. At first I hated him because I thought he was just there to replace my SF2 main Blanka as well as my Best Friend’s main Dahlsim. But then I learned more about him, as well as actually playing as him, and I started to really like him. He’s really fun.
Necro is just a satisfying character to play in SF3, its a shame he hasn't come back yet because I think his play style would be very interesting in SF6.
I've always sucked at fighting games and most of what I've done was always button mashing and praying, but despite that and the fact that I've never even TOUCHED a Street Fighter game, you've gotten me so invested in the characters and manage to hold my attention all the way through. We need more characters like this, it's a fun "archetype" if you can even call it that, I guess "mix zoners" or "setup zoners," something like that?
oh my god, wonderful association. no wonder i like both so much
Teddie in persona is this with better combos and the items are significantly higher (like 6 on Faust vs the 18 on teddie) but are on a cycle.
@@Neogears1312 Kind of but from my understanding Teddie is less of a zoner.
Also both are bald
Necro is one of the two characters (the other one being Oro) that made me want to learn 3rd Strike and I think that he's genuinely very overlooked
It doesn't help that he still never came back in a newer game which is a shame imo
Also necro and oro (to me at least) have one thing in comon, they are one of the most fun characters to see in high level of play
Like, porn is great and all, but have you ever seen a optimized Oro player dribbling someone like a basketball? Or a necro master making someone have nightmares about the mere idea of being near a corner? Because those hit diferent
@@WackassBirrB that's so true man you don't see them often in high level but the few times they're played it's the best
although i could never fully understand necro, i always loved his design. both appearance, lore and gameplay-wise. he's just such a cool guy.
I miss him.
Hopefully he pops up in 6 eventually now that the series has finally gone past 3.
last time we saw him was in Street Fighter 5 as a cameo, I hope he's going to be awesome in 6
I like how you put these out to teach fighting game fundamentals to a clueless person like me
Seeing the mirror Necros dance back and forth like that brings warmth to my soul 10:32
It seems like the devs were very proud of Necro. He animates beautifully, and he's got all these command normals.
"Calling it oppressive is definitely a stretch"..I see what you did there lmao!
Love that you have to say 'safeish' for a -3 target combo that leaves you at midscreen. ...because Chun-Li exists
Tbf nothing is truly safe in third strike. This character has an unreactable special that’s plus on block and despite that being the most insane idea ever it’s still not a safe move.
theres also red parries
Necro and Effie were in the background of an Sf5 stage, but they probably deserve more. It’s also worth noting that him killing Twelve at the end was funny because Necro and Twelve are loosely related.
I've been really interested in this character for the past couple weeks thank you for making this. Think I'm gonna try to learn.
Also two Necro's idling next to each other is unreasonably funny
they're jivin
They're vibing
necro is such a cool character, even for the weirdo sf characters he sticks out as the weirdest. i hope he gets into sf6 in some form!
Normal people: "Brain > Brawn"
Fighting Game people: "I thought i was just really bad, but luckily no, i was just dumb"
Combo videos for Third Strike are just a blast to watch because of this mechanic.
24 hours of Necro (3S) Idle animations to chill/relax to.
Blanka/Dhalsim Hybrid. The thing I love most about Necro is that he has no teleport, so this in turn makes him an aggressive Dhalsim.
i absolutely love necro in 3s, i quote his intro quote of "LETS GET IT ON!" all the time. i just love how weird his voice is in this game. in tng and 2i he just sounds like a normal dude, but here hes way more different and more interesting
I’ll admit, as weird as this character is, his animations are really cool. Kinda makes me want him for SF6.
EX Tornado Hook is so fun to watch
According to leaks no sadly he should come back tho maybe for dlc the characters and artworks have been leaked a lot of characters are missing and there’s a lot of new ones that I’m not excited for at all they have characters like necro I would take over luke or a teenage girl that fights for the 100yh time he’s just way cooler
One cool thing about flying viper, if I remember correctly, is that although the attack is kinda slow he is airborne on frame 1, which allows him to kinda get out of aegis mix-ups on wake-up or out of Oro's SA2 unblockable loops.
Decided to main necro back in 3rd strike era, purely because it was kinda cute how he did win poses with his girlfriend (RIP Ken.)
Was pleasantly surprised when I ended up learning hes just a character thats solid at just about everything and happened to have such high stun you'll always be able to land whatever stylish combo you labbed in a real match.
Really hope he makes a return back in SF6
As a casual fighting game watcher, Necro always seemed pretty interesting, so count me intrigued.
I absolutely love this content, please keep it up! From your pokemon stuff to all of your fighting game stuff, it's great!
Necro is absolutely one of the weirdo characters I'd love to see return in 6. A redesign together with the new visual style? NOW is when the crazy characters should shine.
I agree! Maybe one day I can see both Necro and Skullomania in a game.. crazy bunch. That'd be lovely.
Dude please keep up with the third strike content, started playing last week and can say this is an amazing fighting game with seriously well balanced mechanics a fucking crazy interesting and diverse roster. Your content on the game makes it hard to keep off this masterpiece of a game
I sometime play Third Strike casually with some friends and I decided to try Necro recently
ended up falling in love with this character's gameplay and doing crazy combos by accident
When the Necros are both standing nose to nose just wiggling at one another I just imagine them being like "Bro, you're so fucking gorgeous bro." "Nah bro, that's you bro, you're goddamned beautiful."
Necro love in 2022. Got this boomer smiling. Listen kids this game is solid and if your an 09er or later check it out it's incredible.
I was brought into the fgc in 2019 and this was the game that did it.
Necro is legit the coolest character in 3rd strike design wise imo, He’s the reason I wanted to learn the game, even if I didn’t end up maining him
I mained him in NG, 2I and 3s.
@@K-Rocket I think Necro x Dhalsim match ups would be sick.
also good to remember drill kicks can be low parried
My main is finally in this series. You love to see it.
There is no way I just watched a 34 min video about a game I have never played or plan on playing about a character I knew nothing about and still enjoyed it, your content is something else I’ll tell you that
i main necro. this is actually THE best beginner-intermediate tutorial for necro funnily enough. especially when talking about cobra/viper overheads.
Thank you! That really means a lot I'm pretty fond of this vid tbh
I've always wanted to say- Chun-li's SF3 idle animation feels oddly lacking when compared to most of the cast. It loops a little strangely in comparison to the smoothness of Necro and others.
Its like she's stuck on Alpha
The motion is too even, stiff and simultaneous, that's why. For the Shotos, the pants flap after they move up and down, creating weight. For heavy characters like Hugo or Q, they lurch in an arc back and forth with acceleration factored into their idle stances
Chun just moves vertically at even speed in a straight line.
It’s because she’s a later addition. I believe it’s because they held a popularity contests for characters trying to gauge interest on who they should add to third strike and she won so they had to make her with less knowledge going in from the start than makoto who was a planned new character early on so she’s a lot smoother animation wise.
@Duck moment gotta love the classic "say no one cares to someone who demonstrably cares" maneuver
You are the reason I now play this character. Thank you so much.
thank you for not stretching the video to be widescreen
I absolutely love these kinds of videos, and this is one of the better ones. You did Necro absolute justice, and helped me put some words on why he’s cool beyond his visuals and story. Fingers crossed that he will get a chance to show those old-timers Blanka and Dhalsim how it’s done some day soon.
"I thought I was really bad but no I was just dumb" what a mood
seeing necro and his trap queen effie in the background of the spooky arena stage is the only thing that gives me hope
When I was younger, I would think of Necro as "Elastic Quan Chi"
Babe wake up, a new fighting game gold just dropped
Man I could listen to you talk about literally anything in 3s and have a good time. Love the game and love how you go about discussing it
"this is *super* important because it's one of your best ways of going into *super*"
Gotta love how in Sf3 everybody thought Necro was wierd, until SF4 came along with Rufus
Wake up babe, half hour of Big yellow talking about not only a game but a character that I am never gonna touch in my life
Fun thing about Necro:
Ever eaten a taunt as a meaty during your wake up, getting chipped out to death? I have.........
I thought down back heavy punch strings just worked on everyone. Thank goodness I saw this.
Necro's hands are always in finger blast position. Godlike.
I really love your videos, your fighting game vids got me into SFV and your pokemon vids got me into gen3 ou - keep it up, your stuff is awesome and I look forward to every upload
I want necro and remy back so badly
Remy was sexy but he was so bad, I only want him back if he gets better
@@deletedTestimony honestly I think if he had the same tools and moveset in any other game than sf3, he'd probably be decent to good
He has a great set of projectiles in a game where projectiles are inherently bad because they give the opponent meter through parry
Plus he got the combo grab sauce
Since Nash would be long gone they can even bring him back with changed special moves like they did for him
bring necro back as a circus ringmaster in top hat and tails
Thatd be fucking sick
Ye
Thanks for taking the time to talk about Necro! He was always my favorite character in SF3.
This dudes idle animation is so funny, he’s just groovin
Another great video Big Yellow. God damn i love you and these videos. Criminally underrated channel.
I've never played SF3, but Necro has always been the character I plan on maining.
3:42 "calling it oppressive is definitely a STRETCH "
Oh ho ho, nice!
This joke was so funny you
you became Santa
I liked watching necro’s silly bobbling arms and fingers
Your latest fgg videos have been really good. Keep up the good work
This video is literally why I'm playing third strike, never played an fg seriously before but necro is so cool I had to start recently when I saw 3s at an arcade and remembered how awesome this video makes necro seem.
"I thought I was really bad but luckily no, I was just dumb."
mood
The fact he's not in the Base Roster of SF6 is outright criminal. I hope he comes back via DLC in the future though.
Dude is one of my favorites in SF3.
16:43 lmao this is the best youtube chanel ever. I've enjoyed your videos so much bro
Necro's in game picture looks likes he's about to sneeze
Necro was always one of my faves from Third Strike! Great upload! 👍 Learned a lot of new things here. Fingers crossed he shows up as dlc in 6
Necro returning would be cool as hell, he was one of the first characters I beat Gill as. I don't play him as much nowadays I mostly just play Alex but he's got sauce. His combos are cool, his supers are sick and his tools are super unique
My boi necro getting some love, love to see it
I love Necro! One of my favorite characters to play in third strike.
Me: I can't beat chun with Oro, I gotta learn someone else, necro?
Necro video: Chun li is so great let's look at all her tools.
Such a great video. Great information, great detail, funny, no background music. Keep it up my dude. And thank you
Thank you so much. This electric bastard needs more love
Necro's electricity move by the way isn't from Blanka. It's actually frame-by-frame from (Old) Joseph Joestar from the Jojo HFTF game.
They do look quite similar ye
Nope
@@godfatheromar115 ya sure buddy?
@@evilmanthingva he’s kinda right. It’s modified. Joseph’s is more centered. This means it covers his back way more than necro who leans up and forward more. Same application but Joseph actually tries to use this a get off me tool.
I remember playing him a lot on that one restaurant with an arcade machine of 3S
That's crazy I never knew there was a difference
Necro is just a satisfying character to play in SF3, its a shame he hasn't come back yet because I think his play style would be very interesting in SF6.
welp. i played neco once because "haha dalsim 3rd strike"
but this convinced me to main him
Here I am intently watching the full 34:08 knowing full well I'll never play 3rd strike
I've always sucked at fighting games and most of what I've done was always button mashing and praying, but despite that and the fact that I've never even TOUCHED a Street Fighter game, you've gotten me so invested in the characters and manage to hold my attention all the way through. Great job!
(I think I've said this before in another video, but meh -- consider it a sacrifice for Algorithm Senpai)
1:24
Ah yes, that button. The "get the fuck away from me" button does its job quite well, even it makes me despair
15:15 they're vibin
