@HighVybeTribe ive been happy with this radio , everything about it. I've got the older model that doesn't have the buttons like this one. It's touch sense buttons. It's glitched a time or two in 3 years and I've just turned off the truck and turned it back on and came right back. Ive got two 12 inch tw3 jl audios on rockford t1000.1 in a 2016 f350 and my volume sets about 28-30 and it's jamming hard. I've got input sound levels turned up to about 8 out of 10. It's got a great eq that's sufficient for most people. I've also got a rca to hdmi convertor hooked to a firestick and we watch TV in the truck at lunch lol. Matter of fact I watched this video on it sitting at dealership waiting to buy a truck. Lol.
Ive had it for 3 years attached to rockford t1000.1 bdcp and two 12 inch tw3 jl audios. My truck thumps and the radio has been solid. It's glitched a time or two in those 3 years but I've just reset the key on the truck and it came right back. Being boss I've been as shocked as anyone at how good the quality is but it is
I've been installing Boss floating touch screens in multiple vehicles for a customer. I've had great outcomes and does the job for way less than other brands.
my Friend at Carmil Car Audio sells a ton of BOSS headunits along side Kenwood, JVC and Sony. he swears by them. so this review doesnt supprise me at all. BOSS also makes Guitar Pedals, and they are respectable as well.
I was going to say this in my comment as well... Glad I looked ahead quick. Their pedals have been around for a long time and are great quality (except for the occasional manufacturing error). And I agree that advertised ratings are important (essentially lies if not accurate), but if the price reflects the actual numbers or cheaper then where is the valid gripe there? I recently installed an entire system with Alpine gear and was disappointed with the overall performance and numbers. I'm glad I didn't pay for it, as it was terrible compared to previous versions, and cheaper equipment.
I'll stick to selling kenwood jvc and linkswell units boss and planet audio entry level equipment ..normally for years all there products has low rca voltage output
I've always wanted one but don't have the room on my dash or really need one. My head unit just acts as a preamp, with volume knob, before my DSP. Another cool video. Thanks DIY Audio Guy
I definitely have no use for a 10" right now, but if I did I may purchase this one for my truck. I agree it's a preamp, and I don't even use the volume knob lol. I do use it for Droid auto though... Still I agree. And the interference issue is a real concern as well!!!
Sorry, I'd take the ATOTO before that. I am indeed one of those people who they spammed emails to, and i accepted. I ran the S8 for 8 months with no issues and will continue to run it and make a new video if anything bad happens.
I remember once in one of your livestreams I mentioned having the older version of this unit in my truck and people were surprised that I like it. I still get comments on my video of installing it saying it’s a POS, but 3 years later I still love it
I purchased a boss amp when I was 17 thinking it would be shit, powering a type r in its stock box I was really surprised how loud it actual was no complaints really for how cheap it was.
I wanted to order an Atoto but I wound up just going for one of the Eonon brand ones just because I didn't want to be out of a lot of money if it did fail. None of the big brands have an android native device that I can find, so unfortunately I guess I will settle for an "Amazon no namer" since I need it to be able to run an app independently of Android Auto to monitor my engine data.
From the minute you started showing even the wire harness etc you could tell it was going to be better than the Chinese generics lol. Good find for the price.
Not a bad radio but the thing I hate about any head unit like these is that once you install them, you are limited on what amps you can install 😂. Too much bass and it will just vibrate like crap😢. So if you are looking for just some good sound and a nice head unit, it might be what you are looking for. As for myself I like my cars and trucks when the windows and windshield breath 😂. With that being said, my head unit needs to be more secure in place. I do enjoy my Alpine iLX- W650.
I have to agree, I don't usually recommend Boss, because they're the bottom of the barrel for regular 2DIN head units, but if you're looking for a very specific form factor, Boss is a lot better than the generic alternatives.
I was thinking about buying that one because it had a Toslink out and my DSP has a Toslink in. But it was wired Android Auto and I wanted to go wireless.
@ awesome unit won’t be disappointed if you do make that purchase. I have had it since 2018 and won’t buy another unit again. Strong believer in that brand. In past I have had kenwood double din units
@ It might be a few months but if I do get it I'll try to remember to come back here and let ya know. Already over spent this last week on some good non car/audio related deals. 😅 The new to me car (clean low mile 2010 Buick) already has a 54Ah sodium bank installed and a 8 channel DSP amp ready for it. 😁
I have a similar head unit, also from BOSS (BVCP9700A- FL). Only 7 inches, but a supposed 85 Watts per channel max. Based on the 15 amp fuse, I'd guess 40 RMS Watts per channel at most, but it does what I need. Only major complaint is that phone calls are really quiet for some reason. Map navigation seems to come out of my sub more than my door speakers, but it's audible. Also, there is a low-pass for the sub, but no high-pass for the doors, which is frustrating. I'm still pretty happy with it. I got Android Auto in my '94 truck, and it didn't cost that much.
I've got a 10inch Joying and a 9 inch Atoto in my wifes car. a little quirky once in a while but general as good or better than the Pioneer large screen units i've had. The Optical out on my Joying is excellent.
I would really like to see some JOYING headunit testing, as they are so cheap, but are loaded with features, and a quality resolution screen. I think that using a JOYING headunit and some amps, might make for a pretty sweet budget system. I love to just chill, watch movies, or blast tunes while parked with a friend and sip on some good dark roast coffee. Good times. So needless to say, we need a head unit with good resolution, a big screen, and loaded with all the good audio features, and from what ive gathered JOYING might be in the top running, even above high priced units like the Pioneers and Kenwoods.. Take a look and lets find out. 🤘😎🤙🇨🇦❤️ By the way, love your channel. It's flipping awesome to see all these reviews on car audio equipment, with the real power specs, cleanliness, and power draw. Important knoledge that we all need to know when setting up a system. You rock. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
So did Alpine steal the volume knob from Kenwood as well? I could have sworn it's been around for decades.... Maybe you are saying Kenwood's (⬅️) touch screen was the first to have a physical knob. I don't remember that being the case, but I could be wrong. The base point here is that the radio is quality and has great features as well as a decent price. Devil's advocacy and all
Well i will say my boss head unit lasted longer than two different dual brand head units. I currently Use pioneer, an that boss is pretty close in features, so that is impressive plus it has the large screen. Mine is just a double din. Last but not least, i absolutely love a physical volume knob!!! The one thing i hate about my head unit is it don't have one!
I just wonder how the Dual Electronics equivalent stacks up against this. I have owned a single din and a double din touch screen (7” if I remember) and was pleased. Current car is a model that doesn’t have an available dash kit for replacement of factory radio.
I have jad the maxspeedingrods radio from a video a while back and while the carplay connection can be finnicky, it has had no issues. 4 or 5 months in!
I'm lost here... I have been meaning to ask someone for years and I finally am going to do it. Why would anyone need a DVD player in, or connected to, a head unit? I guess I do not spend hours in my driver's seat sitting still... And I know that you aren't watching movies while driving. I guess enlighten me if it's necessary. (I also don't watch movies or tv shows on my phone. Only yucktube. Televisions are for all that other stuff.)
@Toyotajunkie i have a firestick hooked to this exact radio. We jam music going down the road , most passengers are on the phone anyways. But it's cool having TV for me. I build houses and we jump in the truck and watch a episode of something on Netflix or RUclips. Sorta knocks of the crazy of being outside all the time. Gives ya minute to eat and maybe catch a laugh. We also do travel baseball and its cool watch between ball games sometimes when we waiting for our next game. Jump in the truck and cool off and watch some Netflix for a minute
I like how low you can drop the screen my vents are directly above my radio in my prius but a lot of room down below. strongly considering this unit. half the price of a similar pioneer head unit!
How is the software? Does it boot quickly? Is it laggy? Does it just crash out for no reason? Is it just not at all intuitive or easy to use? Many low quality HUs(including factory units have these kind of issues.
It seems to boot quick enough. The touch screen also seemed pretty responsive. I've had a few of these where I keep tapping before something happens and this one responded on the first tap.
I had that radio had to warranty it out kept changing sources on its own usually when I hit bumps. Second one did the same got tired of it and switched it out for a pioneer. Other that that no complaints
When a cheap brand gets a little expensive thats when there unsually decent products. Not all the time but most of the time. I remember when lanzar came out with the optidrive wasnt super cheap compared to there other stuff but was good.
Yeah, No. I've had two of these BOSS "Elite" floating head units and both took a shit on me within six months. On the first one, the screen wouldn't turn on unless I disconnected it from the main head unit and left it off for several hours. The second unit had problems charging my phone while I was using android auto. It would drain my phone completely within about an hour of driving when using maps. I bought it because of the price and the features and especially because it had physical turning volume knob but I am happy to be rid of them. I found a used NEX head unit and I would never go back to BOSS. You get what you pay for, its pure gambling.
With the right dash kit, yes. That is why I linked it here: howl.link/5jjoux5r32puz just input your car and they will make sure you have the right dash kit and wire harness.
Or you can mount it lower and void the left over din space if it "sits" better on the dash. I suggest going to a store that has a display and measure it in all max ranges of adjustment before buying, that way you can really get an idea of how it will fit. Cut a piece of cardboard and hold it or tape it at the various spots you measured.
Why so much hate for Boss? Cheap and decent. Use a quality set of amps and a DSP to make it awesome. Whine tits want you to spend thousands like they did just to sound good. Ha ha. I'll be installing ANOTHER Boss in about 2 weeks... And probably another in 6 months. And, they will sound just as good as my 7 inch Alpine with 800 inputs and 6 outs. And I guess a button for Tidal (whatever the f that is). (Yes I know, but I use Apple music on my droid or yucktube.) Keep 'em coming sir!
Eu comprei um da JOYING e estou precisando da tela e eles não a vendem a parte. As someone who's own this radio for 3 years. This radio is best value for floating screens. Good power , good quality screen.
I have a local friend that is running one. He is very happy with it.
How do you like the time alignment feature ?

Whoa 489 for a boss head unit that’s a little crazy. But it seems to perform well.
They've got a 7-in double DIN for under $200.
@Thumper68 right now they got the 10 inch on Amazon for 219. They are normally running around 280-300 normal price
