15,000 MILE General G-MAX RS Tire Review
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 авг 2024
- After 4 summers, this is what I think of the General G-MAX RS tires. I'll be shopping for new tires in the Spring for my Cadillac ATS4 2.0t. If you have any recommendations, I'm wide open to suggestions. Thanks!

I have used the General G-Max AS-05 several times on a couple cars. I switched this round to the Michelin Pilot Super Sport and there was a night and day difference. They stick like glue and fix much of the understeer on my WRX
See that is how it’s supposed to work! 💪👍
Thank you for posting this review. My car takes 245/50/16 tires and there aren't a lot of choices at that size, so I was looking at these. I think I'll look elsewhere!
Thanks for the review
youre welcome. Appreciate the feedback!
I really like Michelin. Had their "best" tire on my E46 330CI and it was great but so soft that I touched a curb and took a 1" chunk out of the tire. I contacted Michelin and they actually REPLACED the tire! Much respect for Michelin ever since.
Michelin is the only tire company that I consistently hear raving reviews from passionate customers. Thats rare in this world! They are more expensive, but in this case it does seem you get what you pay for. Thank you Tom!
thanks you saved me a few bux
I am also running these on my 2013 ATS AWD 3.6.. Totally agreed with everything you said.
If you end up with new tires before Spring of 2022, lemme know what you buy :D

I debated on these vs the Pilot 4's..
Tried to save money and regret it.
@@MrPageplayer in this case, true story :) Live and learn! We'll both do better next time.
What a good review! Having just taken off a set of GMax RS off my Golf GTI at 20k miles I fully concur with your assessment of the soft sidewalls. When out back road blasting I found it made the car feel skittish and unsettled in the turns. Also, the overall grip level just isn't that great for what are supposed to be true performance tires. I replaced mine with a set of Falken FK510s (which I originally were going to buy rather than the GMax, but there was such a good introductory offer on the Generals I couldn't pass hem up). By contrast (and first impressions, I've had the new ones on the car 500 miles), the Falkens are so much more planted in the hard turns and you can tell grip is up. They are harder to break free - you have to make more of an effort to get them to slide but when you do, they are controllable...the Gmax were a bit 'woolly' feeling, never really knew where you were with them. I do find the Falkens a bit more 'crashy' than the GMax RS for day to day driving etc....but I guess that is to be expected given they are clearly stiffer more performance oriented tires. I won't totally knock on the GMax as for most people they will be just fine (even likeable if you just do the normal driving) but if you do like to do a bit of hooning on twisty roads or track days, there are better options. Of course the Michelin PS4S is the current king, but even in the 'b segment' there are better. Falken have recently just updated the FK510 with the FK520 which I searched for high and low as its supposed to be better again - but while it seems to be widely available in the Europe and rest of world, not in the US yet.
Thanks for that feedback! I loved them until I hit a turn lol I ended up buying these and they are amazing! The ride and wear and grip and sidewall... should not be for such a low price! BMW guys use them and I now know why!! ruclips.net/video/4YAkImith9c/видео.html
Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Had them on my Fiesta ST. By far the best summer performance tire I've had on any car bar none. Great in the dry after you put a little heat in them, good in the rain, stiff sidewalls but smooth ride with proper air pressure. At 25,000 km they still had at least 2 ~ 3 mm until the wear bars and this is with aggressive twisty road riding 50% of the time.
I tend not to be a fanboy of any particular brand, especially automotive stuff but I've had very good luck using Michelin tires both on my car and my bikes.
Price wise they are a bit on the expensive side compared to other brands but you get what you pay for. I think I paid like 150 dollars per tire with shipping and mounting included at a local shop.
Appreciate the feedback. Added the Sport 4 to my list!
The PS4s are in another world price wise. Overpriced
Hola amigo un gusto verte de nuevo perdón que no pueda escribirte en inglés me gustan mucho tus videos saludós desde México.
Gracias por tus amables palabras, amigo. Agradezco tus comentarios.
Interesting comments on the gmax's. I have 235/40/18 and 275/40/18 on my 06 Boxster S for 20k miles and the rears are just now getting down close to the wear bars. I haven't had any of the feathering our "folding over" you've described but obviously our 2 cars are quite different. In the 18 months since I bought mine the price for the rears has jumped up to 240 each (think I paid around 165). I've been very happy with the grip and wear in my case, quite a few long road trips, mountain drives.
They were grippy, smooth and quiet. My new tires are might and day difference with handling.
@@sstressfl what tires did you go with?

You want a great all season, neo terra neo sport! Amazing tire! Super soft tire. My car flat spots after sitting 12 hrs in 40 degree temps! Super grippy tire.
Thanks. you saved my money. What is your suggestion brand and specific tires for the summer?
When I read the BMW guys were running these, I decided to give them a try. They are amazing. They shouldnt be this good. But they are. ruclips.net/video/4YAkImith9c/видео.html
So I watched your video because I was deciding on putting these on my 350z. But funny you mentioned how soft the sidewalls are and now I believe they're a continental issue. I ran DWS06Plus on my Q50s for 40k miles and the sidewalls were MUSHY, grip was great th. Even when new it was terrible and I also used to run them at a higher PSI to accommodate, I switched to AS4's on my Q50 last month and WOW the difference on the sidewall performance. I think continentals and sounds like General too do better on lighter cars. Welp my Z is 3500lbs with me in it, probably not best to run these. 😂
Thats exactly what I was doing to compensate.... higher pressure. Smoooth grippy tire. But way too soft in the corners.
Fantastic review. Now I know what to expect, LOL. Throwing a set on a Lincoln MK8 autocross project (comfy Cobra Mustang). Upgrading the factory 16x6 wheels to a more modern 17x7. Got them in 225/55-17 for 100USD pre tire on closeout, which seems like a great value for mid performance rubber. In 25K miles I'll likely switch to something a bit more focused, but for the price I couldn't resist. Cheers.
Awesome! I later found these for $89 (the BMW forums gave them praise) so I tried them! They were unexpectedly WAY better than the Generals! ruclips.net/video/4YAkImith9c/видео.html
Good to know. Thank you. Cheers. @@sstressfl
Yeah it doesn’t surprise me about the sidewalls it’s the way all continental are and I’ve ran quite a few and being a parent company to general tire it doesn’t surprise me like I said. Conti tech is passed down but still notorious for that soft mushy sidewall. Still a decent tire for the price.
Soft tread, soft sidewalls... great for the drag strip :)
This is so amazing! I just watched a 9 min video on a tire review and a guy wiping off his wheels. And I wanted more... really like this guy and his way of creating. Voice is not annoying at all and no overpowering music constantly in the background.. great job buddy.... oh yea.... we use the same music in our intros and outros
Thank you my friend! I truly appreciate your feedback 🙏👍 You and I have different hobbies but we know good intro and outro music when we hear it 😎💪 God bless you!
@@sstressfl God bless you and your family buddy. I'm headed to binge watch all your stuff. Looking forward to it. Keep up the good work
I had a different experience, but my car is only 2,860 lbs. with a 225/45 17. I actually like the little softer sidewall because my coilovers are so stiff.
that makes perfect sense!
I’ve had the G-Max RS tires on my 3-Series BMW for three years and they have performed and lasted beautifully.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the General Tire G-Max. The Continental Tire Company owns General Tire, General branded tires are made in the same Portugal 🇵🇹 factory as Continental tires.
I had Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S on my 3-Series before the G-Max RS, they wore terribly and developed bad uneven wear noises that were annoying to no end. The mighty Michelin name left me very disappointed, I don’t put Michelin Tires on a pedestal like I did in the past.
I picked these up cuz the BMW guys were sharing their praise in a BMW group. I was also very impressed. And for the price? Un-buh-lievable! Appreciate the feedback.
I looked at the RT 43 and the sidewall was so soft I could push it in with a finger or thumb. You’re the first to address the weird flimsy sidewalls on some (or all) general passenger car tires.
Maybe they do depend on air pressure to maintain their form. Weird.
This tire is a speed rated summer performance tire… it should be stiff with or without air. I think it’s a poorly made/designed tire. But you are right about flimsy tires but I suspect light weight for greater fuel efficiency is driving some of that flimsy design.
Fire hawk Indy 500's were awesome on my 3.6
I’ll check em out! Thank you 🙏
They are and I just decided to buy these.
Ran a set on my fbo e85 ‘18 wrx and they were awesome. Now have a set in my ‘20 Mustang GT and did a road rally with them. They stick and handle amazing. Especially when doing and pushing things your really shouldn’t in the road lol
I would concur with others who recommended Michelin pilot 4 s tires. They are overpriced for sure but you get what you pay for with Michelin. There's a reason Cadillac chose these for the ct4 and ct5 blackwings. Also Corvettes have been fitted with Michelins for years including the c8.
Appreciate it!!
Yea I ceramic coat them when they come off. Just put gmax rs on brand new 10.5 rear 9.5 front and so far they seem good. Lots of traction even in wet, but time will tell. Yea my snow tires (verstein) were amazing. I’ve heard all good reviews except this, but we shall see
Great tires on my ATS except for cornering. Hope they work well for you!
Man thanks for the review. I DONT want a soft slide wall tire, since I have coilovers and geared towards sporty driving. It’s crazy because these are the 2nd highest rated tire in it’s class on tirerack.
I had high hopes. I saw the good reviews. I seem to recall watching a track test too (?). They stuck luck glue at the drag strip :) But turns were a problem for sure. I'm looking fwd to a stiff sidewall performance all season tire for my next pick.
@@sstressfl you won’t find too many stiff side wall all seasons. Might have to upgrade to a Max performance tire. Continental extreme contacts are nice. Cheaper than Michelin 4s too
@@Phuong_Nguyen_ Thats it! I'm lookin at tires similar to the michelin (I might end up with the michelin)... www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Sport+All+Season+4&partnum=24YR8PSAS4XL
@@sstressfl I’m going with the continental DWS 06 plus. I would like something slightly more higher performing in the Max performance class. But they don’t last as long and you can’t drive them in freezing temperatures
@@Phuong_Nguyen_ I run winter tires on my stock rims... so no concerns about freezing temps but I def want longer tread life. AND I might trade this thing in within a year so I might go cheaper. We shall see :)
Try some Falken fk460 tires.
You don’t have to say two dot O T. You can just say two liter turbo or LTG. LTG is the engine rpo code from GM.
How do you think these will be on a 2009 bmw 328i for daily driving? I read on forums someone said in a auto magazine these tires are rated the same as Michelin PS4s for a fraction of the price. I was leaning on getting toyo proxies sports, Yokohama advan flevas or falkens but found these so im looking at them instead lol.
A lot of bmw guys running these and so am I…. These are 10x better than the gmax rs. Install & Drive Review Lexani LXUHP 207 | Cadillac ATS

Which tires did you replace this with ?
When I was researching cars I joined a BMW group. Many talk about the Lexani LXUHP 207. When I saw the price I thought there must be a mistake. But the reviews were good so I have them a run... WOW! WAY better than the General's. I made this video: ruclips.net/video/4YAkImith9c/видео.html
Try Toyo Tires!! From Japan, Good Structure, design and Comfort!
It would be impossible for me to be any happier with a tire than I am with this one. CHEAP yet rides like high dollar. So far it appears to be wearing well too.

I'm going with All-weather Toyo Celsius.
I spent almost 10 years in auto repair, never had good luck with General tires, vibrations, high road force, odd wear.
I Was in a similar spot last year after blowing through a set of coopers in a couple years. I ended up with a set of michelin primacy that I've been pretty impressed with, smooth and quiet like a touring tire, handle the rain really well, but I can push them pretty hard in corners and still feel in complete control
Thanks for sharing!! 👍
I just bought a set of Genral Tire Evertrek GT's last summer. Weakest sidewall ever. I think it's a characteristic of the brand.
Squishy in the corners.
Oh. And it's foolish to store "summer" tires in the cold. It will crack the rubber. They are not like all season. Store them in a heated place for the winter.
Super weak! Agreed. And not sure why you commented about the storage... unless you think my garage is an unheated space? Its technically not a garage. Its a heated basement with a garage door 👍
@@sstressfl You mentioned the dealer having the tires on a car on the lot in the cold months. I was merely referring to that.
@@poseidon5003 I still have PTSD from all of that....
@@sstressfl I understand.
Then everybody that has given them rave reviews was paid off.
I bought them for the rave reviews. They were not good on my car. I just replaced them with cheaper Lexani tires... and they are truly amazing! My car handles great once again. ruclips.net/video/4YAkImith9c/видео.html
I had them on a FWD lowered car on 17s and they stuck like glue. I didn't have any problems with them, but that car only weighed like 2600lbs, and I didn't get a chance to put a lot of miles on before I sold the car. I'm looking to see what I'm going to put on my AWD car this summer. Maybe not these again. Especially with that wear so soon.
@@JakeTaco83 I had great traction with these at the drag strip. Very soft sticky tire. I just replaced the Generals with Lexani LXUHP 207. 40,000 mile warranty. They stick like glue. Handles WAY better! $89 per tire. Here's the review ruclips.net/video/4YAkImith9c/видео.html
@@JakeTaco83 Try the Indy 500's. I had them on my ISF and would buy them again. I tried these because I have had General Altimax RT43's on my car ans they were excellent tires. While it was a 2008 Rav4 I4, they lasted a long time and had great traction all year round. UHPST or MPST don't belong sitting in subzero temps either way anyhow.
