I have a great video from here in Buffalo! So amazing what my daughter got to see on her ninth birthday today! She was blown away and now believes in a God of creation and the power of faith because it was so cloudy and I told her to have faith because God wanted us to see the Glory of such powerful things such as that! I did not see pure darkness
I thought I was the only one in NYC it didn't get dark where I am so I didn't even know when the eclipse peaked

Yep. That's about right. That's how emotional an experience it is. Pictures don't do it justice. The corona was so bright. The ruby prominences spectacular, multiple of them. The eerie horizon, sparkling Venus off to the lower right of the eclipse and Jupiter to the left. It was far far FAR more impactful than I expected. One of those moments where you truly understand why people believed what they did in the past.

during the few seconds of full coverage they aren't neccessary, but during partial eclipses they are essentials to protect the retina against solar damage

I watched the NASA broadcast. IT was fabulous and no talking or lame politicians either.
I didn't have time to get my glasses and on top of that the sunlight didn't go away, they said it would be 90% in my area but it seemed like 70%
