- 5 years ago to the day I build storage wars in Hermitcraft Season 6, and now I'm building storage containers in Hermitcraft season 10. The idea came to me at 3 o'clock in the morning, which is spooky. Clearly my brain is hard wired to think of storage wars on July 6th every half decade. I look forward to making another storage wars in 2029.
In this episode we also blow up Hermticraft's magic mountain.

my favourite thing about Mumbo's town build is that it feels like a visual representation how you remember an old town you visited as a kid. All the small and specific details of places you went and the names of a few strangers you met are all there but the actual layout of it all was forgotten or never remembered in the first place. the landmarks all twist together in a way that feels real but in a way that mirrors how it was stored in your brain, rather than what the actual town looked like

@@NoahCooper-vt1mi detailed builds take longer (especially for me). I built all the wrenches (giant external structures) of my Hermitcraft Season 7 base in less time than it took me to design and build Willy's woodyard. There's such a huge difference in the 'blocks placed per minute' with these sorts of builds.
I am likely going to expand into some mega structures at some point soon though.

I like the idea that in that little area by willy's, you build a tree stump -- which is not the first tree that willy cut down, but the first one that he mad a spoon out of. Just a thought that popped into my head :)

I love the idea of Big Ron and Willie Sr. and Jr. all eating lunch together as Willie Jr. was growing up, and now that Willie Sr. has passed, Willie Jr. continues the tradition, even though Big Ron knows he could just go eat in the air conditioned store of Jill and Bill/Bob’s.

I love how this year so many hermits are not building giant huge megabases and are instead focusing on community. This season is really special.
The main thing that has a lot of people in awe with Bdubs' builds is that he seems to paint with blocks. He uses the most subtle little changes in tone across builds and really has an eye for both the small and big picture. At 12:12 I really began seeing that in your build. That tiny shift of tone in colour in the tuff block is Just So in a way that is perfect. Not only has your building improved on a larger scale, each season slowly moving more and more from Big Build to Little Builds making a Big Picture, but your care and concern for the tiny details is just so impressive! I truly feel that wherever you take your builds this season is going to look stunningly mindblowing Mumbo.

It’s crazy how in season 7 mumbo would just scroll through his crossbar with lots of blocks to add texture whereas now he adds details and blocks and thinks about every wall and every detail, well done, you’ve improved so much.

As someone who works on and installs garage doors for a living, seeing Mumbo come with these designs and talking about garage doors is both immensely funny and immensely satisfying.

Suggestion for what could go in the small area in front of the storage containers: a little burn barrel! Maybe with a chair or a small pile of wood or trash. The space feels like a bit of a ramshackle meeting space, and IRL it feels like that's what exactly would wind up there.

I really like how mumbo approaches builds like an artist. The reference pictures for shape and palette, making "doodles" like the stuff in his redstone world, sketching the concept art, and then actually building. It's just such a thoroughly artistic way of going about it
So true, for a redstoner who converted to a builder in a matter of months. He’s pretty excellent. Bet than me even though I have been a core builder ever since I got Minecraft for the Xbox 360. Ahhhh, memories 😁
genuinely, massive props for having this big of a channel and still taking the time to look through and consider comments. Not a lot other creators do but I feel like it makes everyone feel seen, which is great! Loving the vids and the builds.
Branching off from the RV idea, I think a rusted shell of a car would look perfect there, actually.
4:52 As soon as I heard about the empty space and the possible idea for a picnic table, I immediately imagined that there was a tarpaulin-covered fence with a sign that said "construction in progress" on the empty space, but in fact there was no construction, and the locals had just set up a resting place there. It's like a small corner of peace in a noisy neighbourhood :з

I was thinking about the van from season 9 I believe but in a darker pallet to show it’s run down sorta (your is pretty cool too I like that)
The ‘Safe’ part of the safe storage sign could do with more contrast against the wall behind it, like replacing the stone with mushroom stems or white terracotta.
Also for small tree: fence, leaf, leaf. Boom, shrubbery.
I honestly think mangrove/birch was perfect for the 'Safe' part. Mangrove/cherry was nice too

Agreed, the switch from the high contrast wood to the low contrast green was barely legible at distance (with youtube compression on a mobile hotspot connection to an HDTV that is)

A park bench with a single small shrub could be quaint. Like someone wanted a park but there wasn't enough space so they threw all the park things into a very compact area

That space you made overgrown? Just put a leashed dog (sitting, obv) there. Someone's working in their storage unit and leashed their dog outside in the grass. It'd make sense, lore-wise, and it would add a bit of actual life to this build, hearing an occasional bark around the corner or seeing an animal as you walk by.

I really do like the detail in your builds - it adds so much character and pleasantness for my eyes to enjoy, but to counterpoint on the statement you made at about 10:40, sometimes there is beauty in simplicity, specifically texture or detail. When used correctly, lack of detail can add contrast to a build in a way that more detail doesn't, but that's not to say that one is better than the other - like any building tool in minecraft, I think it's fun to experiment and play around with it, trying out different levels of detail and maybe adding contrast between a more busy build and a less busy one. A blank wall can tell a story too, in real life and in Minecraft.
But overall, I'm loving the thought and just pure character behind your builds this season, honestly such a pleasure to watch. Loving season 10 👍
*After finishing the episode it turned out really awesome, all your builds are complimenting each other really well on the side of the mountain.

The large blank walls in my real life tell the story of how I don't want to nail holes into my nice finished walls. Lol.

For the empty space in front of Safe Storage, you could put a statue (i.e. an edited armor stand) of the town's founder, another quirky figure of the little society you are building. Just a polished andesite block (or whatever you prefer) for a base, then an armor stand with grey leather armor, possibly with some emerald armor trim (I suggest Raiser, Rib, or Wayfinder) to make it look overgrown, and a grey player head, maybe a Dispenser Miniblock. Make him hold a pickaxe to show that he dug and built the town, and then put a sign on the base as a memorial plate.
Add a bus stop in that open space where you wanted to put a car!!! its a great add on because you don't have to actually put the bus, but maybe it would look really nice since they are not that big, only slightly larger than the bench, but with more height

The empty space between the BITS and BOBS and the strorage should totally be the "town square".
As in... not really oficially anything but just a space where people hang out because it kind of is the only space left. And someone has put up some old plastic chairs and maybe there´s an old... table tennis table? Maybe? a makeshift grill? some decaying parasols? Maybe a singular ooooold tree left for shade. You get the vibe.
Even though maybe they wanted to use the space for something else the whole thing has grown on people and now they really enjoy it and it has to stay.

You should add a hospital. Every town needs a hospital. And you can also include one of those two or three wheeled tiny ambulances that towns use when the towns walk spaces are tight
Mumbo… YOUR A RED STONE MAN!! Integrate some working lights on the signs if you can Etc, or do piston doors and just hide red stone contraptions all throughout the base
In the grassy patch, you should put a wishing fountain, that was put there by the greedy bank owner, and when you throw a coin in it gets funnelled straight to the vault. Also loving the videos, never stop!
I would add a rickety bridge section to expand the path outside the woodyard by 2-3 blocks, it seems quite cramped to walk through. I love your content Mumbo!
Mangrove trap doors with the cherry blossom trap doors on the back looked great for a sign. Consider using that idea for a different part of the build. Very creative, haven’t seen anyone use it before.
as an artist, i’m very impressed with your ability to break down and understand what references you need for what! your color theory, shape understanding, and aesthetic instincts are on point and in sync! it’s not something i see very often, especially outside of art related communities :D i know plenty of artists who don’t have nearly the skill in putting together an idea as you do, mr mumbo jumbo sir. i’ve been enjoying this exploration into building with complex ideas!! well done!!
Mumbo already was an artist with his mini documentaries. So it is not surprising to me that he knows how to do artistic builds like an artist.

Fellow artist here! Mumbo’s experience with film and cinematography has definitely given him an artistic eye! I take a film class in art school it’s got very similar sensibilities to an illustrator! Color, composition, lighting are all super important in film to do the same kind of visual storytelling other artists do :D

An idea/suggestion for something you could put in front of the empty area of the garage doors could be a little flower cart I could imagine a old lady or someone who likes to go to the middle of the town and sell her flowers!
For the overgrown area in front of the storage units, a neglected community garden would fit perfectly! I work for an urban agriculture nonprofit so I see a ton of them and they have their own messy aesthetic lol

I love the sign but i personaly think that you should put the birch trapdoors back. The sign is quite hard to see from a distance because it kinda blends in but the lighbulby pop really makes it shine. Good job on your building skills Mumbo. Its so cool to see how good of a builder you are becoming

In all seriousness, Mumbo’s base this season is probably my favorite Hermitcraft base, full stop (with the possible exception of Deep Frost Citadel, if Decked Out 2 counts as part of Tango’s base). Mumbo’s attention to detail here is just enchanting.

Keeping the amazing builds and redstone aside for a moment. I absolutely adore the new thing you're trying with taking inspiration from different sources & the new editing style. These have been kept up and adapted to different thing so well! Amazing :D
One suggestion for Jill & Bill's some of the "cardboard boxes" you should get some bees in. As the honey starts to fill them, they will look like more weathered boxes. This will work especially well with those that sit outside where such boxes would recieve more weathering.

21:00 For the “empty” space, you could continue with the picnic bench idea. I suggest a sort of “round table” where there are traces of all of the residents of the town. I would like to imagine that the residents gather here every weekend for lunch and have a bit of fun!
Listening to you talk about these builds in all of these artist terms and seeing your filmmaking and artistry come through the entire process of designing and building is so cool and refreshing, and as an artist myself it makes it easier to understand and kind of breaks down what makes these builds look so good (especially those tuff blocks under the stairs? Incredibly satisfying.) Keep up the good work and especially the beautiful graphic design in your videos Mumbo! Genuinely inspiring!!

I find it a bit funny that mumbo spent all day working on custom doors that aren’t piston doors. They look great! Cool to see the effort everyone’s putting in this season to grow out of their comfort zone.
Also, I’ve been watching your videos since I was in gradeschool and got into my career path because of toying around with redstone and command blocks in Minecraft. Started my first real, full-time software job 3 weeks ago so have been reflecting a lot lately, and watching your last couple of hermitcraft videos have made me feel quite nostalgic. Thanks :)
Well of course! Piston doors would take Mumbo about 20 minutes tops, he’s Mumbo Jumbo, redstone wizard! But detailed doors? Now that’s art, and everyone knows you don’t rush art!
Ideas:
1. A few froglights behind the giant "SAFE" letters and the SAFE Storage sign will look amazing during the night.
2. If you decide to put an RV out front, you should get Pearl to give you some tips. She's done great work this season with her vehicle builds.
3. Maybe make one of the SAFE Storage units have a functional redstone garage door? I don't know if there's room for that, though.

21:01 Maybe you could add a little overgrown pond with a waterfall going down the cliff's edge. Maybe adding some azalea bushes and other plants (I, personally, like to make cattails using green stained glass panes and brown candles on top). That way nothing is blocking Jill & Bill's Bits and Bobs, and something is filling that area.
yes, I have some small rivers in my area that get funneld through "small" tubes (about half a meter wide) to let them flow below paths and streets. This could be done very well with stairs

I think you should put either Birch Trapdoors or Froglights behind the "safe" part. That might make the word slightly more legible (but its looking SO GOOD so far!)

Mumbo's getting even better at building. These storage units still keep to Mumbo's signature busy style, but the repetitive pattern and shape language make the whole thing much more readable from long distance. Yippee!
You'll know that Mumbo has finally gone to the builder side once he says how he likes the crafter as new block. Because it gives nice texture and can be used in many ways add personality to builds.

something that i really like is that most other bases are just caught in motion like a candid, but his base is much more interactable and doesnt use moving objects
