Alitalia, the once top tier Italian airline has gone into closure. What will happen to the Italian airline industry in the coming years? Ice711 discord server: / discord Insta: / ice711yt
I have flown Alitalia a few times in my life(back when i was a kid). All i could say is that, from what I remember) is even tho the cabin crew were great, the core product/experience kinda lacked personality. Which is sad cus Italy has so much history, buildings and cultural aspect that the Italian airlines could've played in on to kinda make it feel like you are in Italy already. I just hope ITA has more going for them.
I'd argue HSR has influenced the closure of Alitalia, since it is way too popular for them to keep up in regional flights, and COVID killed international travel
Alitalia hadn't come to Australia in many years, I think Emirates flew part of the way for them. I flew them twice Melbourne to Rome to Trieste return in '85 and'90 and even as someone who knew nothing of air travel, I wasn't impressed by the experience. Strange they stopped flying here so long ago as there were so many people who moved here from Italy - that's the only reason I flew Alitalia, because my Italian mother wanted an Italian speaking airline 🤷🏻♀️
Also, don’t forget that a large chunk of Alitalia’s revenue came from local flights. And since that Italy invested pretty heavily on High-Speed Rail, it became way more convenient to travel by train rather than with Alitalia. For example, going from Rome to Milan takes only 3 hrs from centre to centre, meanwhile if you wanted to fly with Alitalia you had to go to Fiumicino and then fly to either Malpensa or Linate. And it just wasn’t worth the time or the money spent.
Another factor hat contributed to Alitalia’s problems was the trains, to travel from Milan to Naples you’d rather take the high speed trains and get there in only 5 hours for a cheap cost, because of this local flights became less and less profitable
I’m Italian and I loved flying Alitalia (it was my favorite airline), I sincerely think like that Alitalia is in some way ITA Airways’s father that passed away.
I have flied on Alitalia very recent in fact I am in sicily now next to Italy 🇮🇹. The Alitalia I flew on had a ita airways cup, ticket, and a logo of ita airways on a wall.
In 2020 me and my family were going to go to Italy in vacation, but it was only until early 2023 when they gave us the vouchers and we rescheduled to this winter break(summer break in north hemisphere) with ITA Airways. Had a fun time in south Italy and rome
i flew ITA to and from rome-france when i was in europe on their a320neos. honestly a pretty great airline. never got the chance to fly alitalia but ITA (other than their long check in lines at roma-fiumicino) is definitely a solid step forward.
I saw the process of Alitalia being painted over. I landed in Rome in Aeroitalia and saw a few Ita Airways and Alitalia and Aeroitalia and I saw a few Alitalias being painted over I got a few photos of them how do I send them? Not all Alitalias have been replaced yet I Went on Alitalia twice and I will probably go again to get back home.
For those who don’t have a lot of time -ita is new Italian airline -Alitalia faced big competition from foreign airlines in Italy -the pandemic slowed business so they were even more broke -Alitalia was always late for arrival and departure -ita is different because it’s run by government unlike Alitalia -ita has more money put into it -ita has newer aircraft
One thing you missed: ITA Airways doesn't need the Boeing 777 anymore. Instead, they focus to operating all Airbus fleet, which include newly Airbus A350 and Airbus A330-900. However, the old Airbus A330-200 will be slowly replaced by Airbus A330-900. Also, i heard some news that Lufthansa group will takeover ITA Airways from Italian government once the stake deal is finalised.
I reciently went to Roma (italy's capital) and on the Fiumiccimo Airpot, there are some Alitalia planes that are not painted with the ITA design for the moment, and also, when I was of the first going back flight (since my flight was made with one scale), one of that planes were behind my flight.
i flown on this airline during my trip, in short flights i think it’s quite ok, they have headrest on their seats and will offer free drinks, i think it’s a quite good airline for me.
I once flew ITA airways. I went from Rome to Geneva inside an A220. Turns out it wasn’t in its iconic blue livery, but rather a white and green livery much like that of Alitalia…
2:04 so true lol. Actually they were a good airline tbh they had the world's first jetliner the De Havilland Comet they were such a good airline right? What are your thoughts on this incident Ice?
“ALITALIA” Italian Air ; a hellish tale “Bon Giono” had been practiced, forever and a day, I really had perfected it for my Italian stay. With my tickets in a safe place and my lodgings all worked out. The countdown to departure was now over, bar the shout. With trepidations all abated, to the airport I did ride. And on arrival felt elated for my life’s dream gratified. My seat was in the back row, but this I did not mind, It’s only that the seat was fixed, and I could not recline. So, squeezed into my little space, I quickly looked around. In the hope of seeing if a spare seat could be found. With my thighs held tight together and my arms pressed to my chest, my ample fat kept spreading, finding nooks in which to rest. The trip was a disaster, unbelievable it would seem to someone who was not there, an incredible comedy scene. A drunk threw up all over me, a bag fell on my head, an elderly passenger was attacked, I thought that he was dead They ran out of meals, so it would seem. Thick smoke hung round like smog. Rude cabin staff seemed unconcerned, poor treatment for a dog. The toilets were disgusting, the service much the same. But Alitalia deny all this and find someone else to blame. You’d think that, that was all there was , unfortunately it’s not and if you’ve time to hear some more, I’ll explain to you the lot. Ive been to court and that is all us average folk can do. Unless you have big dollars, their motto is ‘screw you’ My compensation was a discount if I would fly first class But this my friends, you’d all agree was given a big PASS
Also, Alitalia then and ITA now, register their planes in Ireland, because in Italy there are lots of taxes. I know because I was born there and lived some time. So you will see not so many I registered planes. I think that there are more EI registered.
I flew Alitalia from Milan to Geneva. It was an economy ticket but the whole plane was configured as business class. The food, drinks and service was incredible. Later I had to take a flight from London to Bari. I could only fly Ryanair, and guess what it was not only a rubbish flight but it took advantage and charged a fortune for the flight (about 300 pounds return, expensive even by Alitalia standards). Now Easyjet and Ryanair are basically the only choices you have. And they usually are not cheap (unless you want to fly out a 4am in the morning from Gatwick or Stansted). It seems now that Easyjet and Ryanair are the only airlines offering many internal flights in the EU, not just those from the UK. It seems that the EU is only working for the so-called cheap airlines. They think they are promoting competition; they aren't they are just creating new, and even more exploitative, monopolies.

as an italian 11 year old (im not joking) i loved Alitalia, i rember that when i had my first ever flight i flied with alitalia, but i think ita airways is still cool, still miss alitalia tho.

Actually that probably is not the fault of the airline...I have waited on the tarmac in United and American planes too...weather...busy airport etc. I flew them twice in the 70s...and they were just a bit under par.
Alitalia was an iconic livery, not just on the planes, but also the sponsorship you could see on the Lancia Stratos
And the Stratos actually did takeoff 😂 ✈️ 🛫
So Alitalia sponsorship was pretty accurate lol
Totally
or the other lancia rally cars
ITA's livery was a good refresh from the rather dull Alitalia. But still, it was nostalgic.
Kinda true, but I like the old Alitalia Logo more
Yea I like the shiny blue actually, but Alitalia’s old livery is a classic
@@ice711real thanks for the reply love your content!
I think, ITA airways have better livery, but Alitalia is best.

Me too!
I’ve only flown Alitalia once and that was in 2021 when they shut down but yeah the crew was pretty mid
Another large factor to Alitalia’s downfall was the Italian high-speed railway. There is a great Not Just Bikes video that explains this.
OH YEAH, I was literally gonna mention the railway industry, I completely forgot wow. Thanks for reminding me!
I 100% agree as I said earlier I was in Italy ~2 weeks ago and its like 3x faster to take a train to let’s say bologna than it is on a plane.
And the trains did beat them rightfully so

I am just going to say it, trains are better. There, I said it

Tbh, you can't deny the fact that high-speed rail is still a HUGE factor in the closure of Alitalia, and i'm glad it did.

Yes, its true.

Yes, It is a shame to see Alitalia Go. But hopefully ITA will be able to have that feeling that Alitalia did.
Also, don’t forget that a large chunk of Alitalia’s revenue came from local flights. Well,I guess that was the best to happen for the sake of italian airlines..awesome video as always!💪
Nice vid! A good reccomendation for a future vid would be Canada's cheap airline Lynx Air and why it disappeared out of the blue

Can you cover Alitalia 112.As an Italian I’d like to see it.(And thank you for mentioning Alitalia, cause now everyone thinks of Ita.)

As a fellow italian, i need to say that Alitalia was one of my favourite airlines.
The Closest Thing we have to Alitalia today is Aeroitalia, an airline that was launched in 2022 and is still operating today.
*me flipping the bird for Alitalia bc of how Ice711 thinks what the meaning of Alitalia is*
Alitalia is still an airline, it has 737s and Embrarer E175s I’ve seen one in Rome
Informative video with some funny edits, good job
Hey ice..could you please do a vid about ISA?

The funny thing is Alitalia was taken up by Etihad and yet even with massive investment. They made Etihad lose money by the end of it.

RIP Alitalia Airlines (1946-2021)
ITA should expand in smoll italian airports, like Forlì (FRL), Cuneo, Trapani, Comiso etc.
This used to be ita airways brand new airline since the A220 release than the alitalia A330
