@@Patil_aei disagree i think that he felt he had to carry his fathers will and so he did but at the end of the day he was more like his father than anyone else was. Ivar had Ragnars mentality yes and Ubbe had his mannerisms and definitely those eyes but Bjorn had his drive his passion and his strength. Most of all he carried that with pride and that showed in his character.

If he didn't kill him maybe he wouldn't have converted? Or maybe it was true maybe the gods did want floki to kill him 🤔 but in order for Rangar to double down and convert which later all will convert to Christianity

The thing is that Floki was radical viking, and it seemed to him that Athelstan was "poisoning" Ragnar's mind and , in fact, Ragnar was paying more attention to Athelstan's ideas.
In some way, his loved and admired friend was becoming someone who he couldn't admire anymore .
Ragnar had been curious about cultures and briefly became more open minded in some way. Not at that point to being able to change his mind as Rollo did but, at the same time, he was not Floki. He was exactly in the middle of these worldviews.

If so ragnar wouldnt intentionall put so much weight in his friend in paris, floki had to prove to be good friend that ragnar could trust at that point, he given him a chance, the baptize later on just an improvided that may not happened. The fact that ragnar comeup with that using althestan as a reason mean he accepted his lost and accepted what he had to this point and moving forward. You see the next season ragnar spend a long time to thing about his fate, what he should do and who he should benefit, either the god, his love one or friend, or for a good ended, he turnout to seek for his free will, tried to control his faith, and prove that all of this war and difference is wrong.

@@zzzarkkaI mean at the end right before he died he yelled and swore his allegiance to his gods. He really only got baptized so he could get a “Christian burial” where he faked his death it was just a tactic to get inside of Paris because the Vikings were failing every attempt to raid the city from the outside. Yes he wore the cross of his best friend. He missed him. But he was conflicted with siding with the gods he grew up with or the god Athelstan praised. I think no one could know which one he went to after death

Floki AND Athelstan were spoken to by their respective gods before the killing took place, that is why Athelstan did not attempt to resist or defend himself when Floki appeared with the axe, that is why nobody saw Floki go into Athelstan's house, that is why the gods distracted Rollo right as he would have interfered. It was a necessary death in the grand scheme of things. Had Athelstan lived, nothing would have been the same in the show, literally nothing. Floki is given the order when his wood carving of the gods begins to bleed, and truly believing in oden meant that he couldn't, and wouldn't, ignore this or think it was a delusion. Floki AND Athelstan are considered the closest to the gods apart from the seer and the pope, and it shows throughout the show. Sure there was definitely jealousy there, but had he not had that vision, he would not have killed Athelstein. Now wether or not the god or gods that guided both men to their fates were the same being or separate entities is up for debate, but the fact of the matter is that both MEN 🗣️KNEW THE ASSIGNMENT

Ragnar knew that the Christian god was the same as the Viking gods.
Is actually what we are discovering today.
Traveling the world he would have noticed that different gods rule in different places and all had similar origins.
Not much difference between then and now except we know that they are beings more advanced than us.
Back then god was the only word to describe them. Relms and worlds were not understood like they are today.

Ragnar betrayed our Old Gods for a new one that is why he was punished with death and those he loved with death you don’t turn your back on the Old Gods for Odin will never forgive and will punish you

Yeah you haven’t read any historical sources. There was definitely homosexuality but it wasn’t celebrated, it was actually stigmatized and taboo.

@@dustybawls3561please reference the historical sources that claim homosexuality. it may have occurred but it was not common at all. hasn't ever been widespread among any population in history except in for example Greece. there are simple explanations in those instances. do better research.

Floki killed Athelstan out of pure jealousy. He was also a fanatic claiming to hear the voices of the Gods and this gave him the perfect cover for why he killed him. His reason quickly became that Athelstan was a threat to their religion and he was spreading blasphemy amongst the Vikings and Ragnar was open minded to this. Floki would have killed Athelstan no matter what out of jealousy but now he had his excuse. It’s very sad because he loved Ragnar like a brother and still hurt and destroyed him with his act all out of jealousy.

Floki is telling the truth, he had a vision in which the gods showed him to make a sacrifice, so he did not lie

I think Floki definitely killed him out of jealousy, but he was off the rails and had himself convinced that it’s what the Gods wanted him to do. I don’t think he was lying to Ragnar, he actually believed what he was saying even though it was horse shit.
