I use golden open medium to extend the drying time in my non-open paint. It definitely helps! And I especially love those last prints with the negative/positive space. And the white with the rubber bands too.❤
I'm also a fan of little hair elastics, as well as plastic onion bag mesh. Just got an 8x10 but haven't played much, as there's some crazy stuff going on in my household that overrides everything else. I've gotten back to grid journaling and limited myself to collage only, no mark making or paint. Some days, gluing four pieces is all I can manage. But you have inspired a gel session very soon.
These prints turned out so well with some as a result of "happy accidents". Experimentation is vital to creating some very original pieces. Thanks Jackie for sharing!
When I get an especially good botanical print, I place acetate over it. Trace the outline with a marker and cut out with craft knife. I love collaging with original papers.
Gelli printing = two favored words: magical and serendipity. Utilizing one's own quick cut masks/stencils is a marvelous idea that had not entered my mind until you did it.
The jar lid will help as a flat surface, but with hand pain, it’s the handle of the baren that saves my hands vs. pushing down with my fingers/hands ❤️
This was so much fun. I could watch you make these prints forever. The black /white are such kickers! I love b/w grey. I'm a fan of high contrast. I guess I'm an arty drama queen . 🙄😅
I use the natural earth paint for gelli printing and they work well - some are more "open" than others, but you can mix with the "acrylik" medium they have to open up the paints more and make them more translucent too. I use the "acrylik" medium to pull ghost prints without adding another color, and that works well. Also if you clean your gelli at the end of a printing session with baby oil--and don't be shy, glop it on there, and use one of the blue shop towels to get up all the paint--then the gelli will soak up all the baby oil and the next session the paint will come off beautifully! And you can use a baby wipe in between pulls to get up extra paint if you don't want any "leftovers" in your prints.

I could watch you do this all day! I really loved the orb masks with the black, but the grunge was fabulous! The grunge look is what made me start this, I've always loved that. My favorite thing to do is use the corrugated part of cardboard. I spray the one side of a piece of cardboard and let the water soak in a bit, then peel that off. If you let it soak long enough, you get a really clean piece. Let it dry overnight, then cut it into different shapes. Sometimes I'll paint the pieces with medium to strengthen it a bit, if I really like the shapes. Something about those lines, so satisfying! @@jackieschomburgart Sure! 😊I soak (spritz with mister, not by laying it in water) one side of the piece of cardboard in order to peel that one side of flat paper off, to reveal the corrugated lines of cardboard. If you do it without wetting it, you have to peel it off in small pieces, rather than one large piece. I do press the corrugated part face down on the gelli plate which picks up some of the paint, and I usually stamp that paint that the cardboard picked up from the gelli plate onto another piece of paper. Please let me know if you need further clarification or even photos. I was not blessed with the gift of explanation. I've also made stamps using adhesive craft foam cut into shapes and stuck onto cardboard. I can't afford stencils, so I had to get crafty. 🤣

Jackie please let me recommend arts and crafts tweezers for picking up masking materials like the tiny rubber bands. So much easier, they aren't expensive and really useful. Fun video. I find that I can slow the paint drying by mixing in a bit of gel medium. I will get some Golden open paints but they are madly expensive where I live.

That makes my day! I'm so glad to hear that I helped encourage you to try collage - way to be brave and give it a go! I just use straight paint in my squeeze bottles. The paint I use is from Nova Color Paints and it's a bit of a "soft body" paint so it's easy to pour in. The only color that has ever dried up on me is the flourescent red, but it's my favorite so the benefits still out weigh the risks :) Oh, and I use tissue from Blick!

Hi Stacie! I’ve had this plate for several years and I’ve only cleaned it once 😅 I used baby oil and essentially just rubbed it all around the plate and it helped get some older paint off and condition the plate. Otherwise, I just put blank paper on it to cover the entire plate (front and back) then store it in the clamshell. When I stored it only in the clamshell without the paper, I would get orb like shapes from any “bubbles” where the gelli plate didn’t touch the clamshell. The paper also will peel excess paint off the next time you remove the paper to use it. I go months in between gelli plate sessions. Have fun with it!! ❤️

That’s a great tip for extending the drying time - I forget that the Open medium comes "plain" and can be added to other paints! 😆
