- First Recovery Video: • SURGERY RECOVERY VLOG ...
I had a gum graft which is considered a minor surgery. I have a receding gum on my bottom front tooth and if left would mean losing my tooth. A gum graft is where gum is cut out of the roof of your mouth and stitched over the exposed root. I did a lot of research online before and after the surgery, but one thing I struggled to find was a day by day list of what to expect after the surgery, what the pain would be like and what kinds of foods I would be able to eat as the days went by. So I have documented my own experiences in the hopes that someone in the future will be able to watch this to answer their questions when they have this procedure done. I will be updating in the future as well. You can subscribe if you want to make sure you don't miss future updates.
Incredibly helpful. My perio. didn’t give me half of this information after the operation.... quite a sweet and beautiful woman, and kind for doing this video. Thankyou.
Thanks for posting these videos. I need to get a gum graft and I’m so anxious about it.😬
Me too :(
Did you get it? How’s it go???!!!
Do not go for that! It is horrible!
I was awake during my graft and had 9 teeth on the bottom done. The periodontist had to give me extra local anesthetic because it started wearing off and was painful. I am only a few days short of week 2 and hoping all my stitches will be removed at my follow up appointment. I got this done when I was older (68), but I've probably had some recession for years.
These videos were super helpful!! Thank you!
Hey! Glad you found them helpful :)
Thanks! It was very useful 👍🏻 I know better what to expect after my surgery
@@bonbonzz how is your gums and teeth now? Thanks
Thank you so much for making this video! 🙏
Thank you so much for all your videos !! It's very helpful !!
did you take antibiotics ? , I want to go a more natural way like doing salt water rinses
Hi, Im just popping in to ask a few questions. I have a tiny bit of receding gums in my bottom front teeth (just the incisors) you cant really tell but they are a bit sensitive. How bad were your teeth before your periodontists said you needed surgery? Is it possible to maybe cover the area where my teeth are exposed? I'm still in my early teens and I don't want this problem getting worse. Any advice will help, Many thanks.
Hi, mine were pretty bad before I even realised. I was getting infections under the gums constantly and even after that I still put the surgery off for a couple of years. But if you are in your early teens I would definitely get it sorted while your parents are still paying your medical bills if you can. I only put it off so long because I had to find the money from somewhere haha
@@bonbonzz is it possible if I can get some kind of filling to cover the area? if you take a look at my gums, you cant even tell they are receding. I'm going to the dentist to get a clean and a check up soon and I'm hoping that it's still in its early stages and I can just get a filling to cover it up?
Definitely ask your dentist when you're there. I'm not a dentist or periodontist or anything so I really don't know sorry.
@@bonbonzz Thanks a lot for your reply, you have really eased my nerves a bit, ever since i discovered that I had a bit of sensitivity, I have been thinking about it every minute and worrying as well. :)
Did you get ctg or fgg? Also what was the pain scale?
How is your gum after surgery??
how is your gum doing after the surgery? do you have food get between the new gum line? how is your roof feeling now? I heard some people get that after the surgery.
How is your gum surgery now?
Try flossing picks, i think they are so much more practical and easy to use
Hello I have one question now ur gum graft surgery tooth is performing well bcz in January m having my surgery so I just want to ask the success rate. Thanku so much ur experience will help me a lot.
I just got it today, what should I eat? How do I brush do I floss? Hope you reply
Definitely follow the advice of your periodontist. I was told not to floss at the start, and to only have liquids
Did you post the final video. Did the graft take and did your gum transplant work?
Hiya, yes I did post a final video 😊 the gum still has a way to go but it definitely took and is growing up to where it should be
@@bonbonzz it took 2 years for the gum to grow ???
did the procedure itself hurt? i just had jaw surgery and i think i might need a gum graft after i recover from this.. i’m getting nervous
I was basically unconscious for the procedure itself.. I can't remember what it's called but it's where you are awake enough to respond to questions but you don't remember it afterwards. So there was no pain during the actual procedure fortunately
This is incredibly late but i had it done today, i was awake and aware and remember it all but very numb the whole time. As far as pain there is none during the surgery. You might feel pressure but otherwise no pain. You’ll be on an all liquid diet for a while tho.
What country do you live in? How much did it cost? How many teeth did they replace gums over? How long was surgery?
I'm in New Zealand. It was just one tooth and cost about $2000 (NZD) and I think it took about an hour. Hope that helps!
Wow that's expensive!! Can you tell me what made you decide to do it? I think I need it done over about 6 teeth, but at this point I can wait because I only have pain when I eat ice cream or something really cold.
It had been receding for ages, I'd been putting it off for like 3 years. I knew I'd lose my tooth if I waited too long so I just had to go for it at some point
I just had mine done two weeks ago and I’m just wondering how long it will take until I can eat completely normal? I can eat most foods but i can’t wait to be able to bight into things again. I want a burger so bad lol
That was the hardest part for me. It was a few months 😢
@@bonbonzz I'm getting 10 teeth done next month with donor graft (basically everything on the bottom of my mouth). My post op directions say "soft food for two weeks." Am I going to walk in there for a 2 week follow up and they tell me, "BTW, no real food for another month"? (Seems like they should give that info from the beginning. )
Yeah I'd be prepared for that cause that's what happened to me. But some people have said they were allowed to eat normally pretty soon after the graft.
@@bonbonzz Thanks for replying. They really should just put "2 months" on the post op.... *eye roll*
How much does this surgery cost and does insurance typically cover
Mine was about $2000 NZD and not covered by insurance, but it might be covered in some countries, I'm not sure
Mine, in the USA, was $3000. With my insurance and my husband's insurance, it was $300 out of pocket.
In Canada, is was $2000 and with 80% coverage (🙄) it cost me 500 out of pocket.
Hi Bon, I just had mine done 2 weeks ago and just followed up with my dentist this am. My dentist said that my grafts are healing well too, but some of them are still looking like receding to me. He said that they take a few months to recover. I will wait and see. I am still eating soft food too.
Hope they heal well for you! Soft foods are the worst after a while!
Heyyy just wanna ask how do you feel now?
Did you have swelling under your tongue?
Nope :)
How many teeth you have done
Just the one
I was considering it I have my right front teeths receeded can I get surgery on my whole side
I expect so. It would be better to only have to go through the recovery once
If you can bite an apple you can have your doughnuts aha
hahah yeah I had my donuts like the day after I was told I could bite again :P
When driving, you must concentrate on the traffic, and not risking other innocents for paying attention to the camera, like an idiot.
Road safety education must one day be taken seriously.
You realise I'm not driving in this video right?
@@bonbonzz 😭
Too bad they didnt inject some common sense into your head to tell you not to do a selfie interview while driving.
Love it 😂😂
