  • Heard of COBB before? Here we review the most excellent outdoor oven / BBQ that is quite unique and perfect for a Campervan or Motorhome. We put the COBB through its paces as both oven and BBQ to see how it performs.
Though a Cob was bread? From up North and thought a Cobb on was a rage? Think again the COBB oven is a great multi purpose cooker for the great outdoors!

They have a rotisserie attachment besides a special rack for cooking a chicken. The extra ring from the latter can be placed around outside of lid to help with heat retention in the Cobb.

We got ours in New Zealand 7 years ago, re the moat getting grubby get over it if your away a week get dow to a beach use some sand and water if your stressed if not get home and drop it in a plastic bowl soak it for a day with a dishwasher tablet in hot water then run it through the dishwasher on hot no probs, you forgot once you've cooked pop in a rice pudding... best rice pud ever!
The only limits to a cobb are your imagination, we've done lobster, scollops, beef, lamb, chicken, pizza, cakes.... there's only one problem the food is so tasty it's easy to eat toooooo much!

It's called a Cobb because the original invention from South Africa was made to run on dried corn cobbs which were readily accessible in remote villiges there.

Australian heat beads are my fuel of choice. What doesn't burn, throw some water over them and you can reuse whats left. Had to order a new roasting rack after a dog in Spain legged it with ours after doing ribs on it! For chicken, use a tin foil dish to cook in, helps keep the moat clean. Just ordered a rotisserie for ours. Can you tell, I ❤ ours.

It is a pain to clean the "moat" but I now use a samgypsal stainless steel two part system designed to be used on the small gas stoves. It has it's own fat trap and is much easier to clean than the cobb and fits perfectly with the roasting rack and the dome. I smoked a brisket using it yesterday and it was superb.

Great video, ps I have a Smokey joe weber and I drilled mine. I found the airflow is very poor. I used a stepped drill bit, pressed out some steel and essentially made 2 replicas of the weber vents which I bolted on lower down the body. Best thing is you can shut the vents to extinguish the coals so you can use it and cool it down quite quickly. I’ve been contemplating a cobb as well and your video was most helpful.

    • @VantasticAdventures

That's David, glad you found the video helpful and also thanks for the idea with drilling the Webber, same issue as you it does need more ventilation holes 👍

Hey Iain, simple solution to cleaning the Cobb. Whenever I use my Weber I always line the fat dripping area by lining it with tin foil. Perhaps you could line the inside trough with some too. When it cools down all the fat should have solidified and easy to remove. John.

    • @VantasticAdventures

@@VantasticAdventures no problem at all Iain. I got so hacked off with charcoaled fat at the bottom of my Weber, so bad it made food taste burnt. Shoving foil under the meat is a massive improvement and (double whammy!) it takes seconds to remove the foil. Happy hols to you and Caroline. Great vids and I’ll be posting some myself when I buy an Adventure 65. Keep em comin buddy. John. 👍

@@VantasticAdventures they worked great, much better. i'll stick to water in the moat though or nothing so I can do veggies and spuds. Beer bakes thick and hard and I had to dump the foil. I like using them a few times. They are not cheap :-)

Brilliant review, I’m going to look at this system! We don’t use our oven either, I don’t like the smell or how long it takes to cook. It’s now used as a storage area, mainly alcohol as a wine box fits in easily🤣

Ooh ha ha love that in idea for wine storage 😂👍 what a Brilliant idea! Thanks Sam glad you liked it 🥰 We keep it in the bag it comes with between the rear lounge seats when travelling and then it lives outside when set up for camping although it would easily fit in the bathroom for travelling or actually under the rear passenger seat but that's currently Mollie's store cupboard for her food, accessories and millions of toys 😬 🐕 😂
