I'm 27 and have dealt with this my whole life. It really bothered me when I was 10. But now only when I clean because the barbell sometimes hits my knee.
I’ve had this on my right knee since I was about 12 (I’m almost 17). I used to do triathlon at the time it started and it caused me a lot of pain. For a while it hurt even when just sitting down and standing up. I did try to rest a bit but I didn’t really know what it was so I kinda just continued. The pain eventually went away after a few months but the bump stayed. Now I’ve been dancing for a few years and I’ve noticed how my knee is slightly hindering my improvement since I can’t really kneel down and stand up quickly without it hurting, and it’s even worse when I actually hit the bump. A few months ago I started doing contemporary dancing and I had to stop this month because my knee has worsened a lot, which is a shame because I really love dancing and wanted to try a new style, so I’ve just gone back to my regular clases (mainly comercial, hip hop etc. where I don’t have to do much floor work). I’m kinda sad knowing that I can’t improve as much as I would like to because I considered dancing professionally in the future but I guess that won’t work out for me. I will just keep it as my hobby I guess lol

Some of those quad stretches I've heard can exacerbate the problem. After all, OS starts because the muscles connected to the patellar tendon are pulling on the tibia. Some of those stretches will just have you do the exact same thing. I believe there are videos out there if you search for them that show ways to loosen up the quad without adding too much stretch on the area of discomfort. I know I wish I stretched my incredibly tight hamstrings and quads 20 years ago. For Crows Country and Track we'd just do a quick warm up and the run our workouts. I can't believe I'd put in 60 or so miles in a week without stretching! I guess that explains why I have a massive fused ossicle at my tibia tuberosity and several smaller ones imbedded in the patellar tendon which makes it feel like a taut wire. Luckily in my right knee it is very mild. A physical therapist friend of mine said it had a lot to do with my stride etc, which makes sense given the repetitive nature of distance running. Now I dream of having that giant ossified lump taken off and the smaller pieces removed from my tendon. We all have our hopes and dreams!
@@natoe9461 Tips? I'm no physical therapist but what I've been told by a friend who is one is to make sure the hamstring and quads are stretches and flexible. That'll go a long way in helping you since you're young and your bones have not yet fully fused. There are videos that online that show how to stretch the quads and hammies using a roller so you don't make it worse. And this can help a lot especially if you're still growing. You're 14 now right? So you have a plenty of years to try to get rid of it before it fuses permanently. Also, you could talk with your pediatric doctor or a physical therapist to find out solutions. I wish you luck with your knee and your fútbol! Before track, cross country and wrestling (all which I did in high school) I played soccer from when I was 5 to when I got to high school. I played mid field mostly, though I sometimes played up front. What position do you play? Just curious!
All these symptoms i have and the inflammation pain is very sensitive to touch, however i am 66 years old and it has flared up i think from a lot of squatting down. Could this be the cause.
I'm 29 years old and just developed it within the last few months. After bartending for 3 years. I would always be placed on the drink well which means im responsible for making drinks for the entire restaurant and in order to reach the bar top from behind the well, I had to use my tibial tuberosity (top of shin bone right below knee cap) in order to brace myself to keep from slipping on the wet rubber floor mats. So basically after 3 years of putting my full body weight on my tibial tuberocity and having it act as the fulcrum to my weight distribution, it must have slowly developed into this disease. The stress put on that area probably made numerous tiny tears in the tendon attachment areas and finally became inflamed/painfully enough thag you can notice 2 big bumps that are tell tale Osgood Schlatters
Had it for 35 years. Mine looks like the knee in the picture. Mine is as bad as it gets I guess. Looks like I have a second kneecap. Yes... I was an athlete that played football, basketball, tennis, and weightlifting in highschool and college. Doctors just told me then you really couldn't do anything for it. Ice and rest was all. After 35 years just learned to live with it. Now that I'm old the good thing is other things hurt worse...lol.
I’m 13 but I’ve had this for 2 years. Sucks a lot. To anyone just developing this, take a break!!!!! It hurts just to bend my knee. I play a lot of sports and am very active so mine is a lot more major than others might be.
I am 10 and have this on both knees for two months. I use straps and have to reduce the amount sports I play. I play basketball and hand to ice after every game but it hurts so bad. They said it will go away once I stop growing. I will start PT
My OS was so bad I mean severe pain. One time years ago playing softball with some coworkers and one of my coworkers let the metal bat go after hitting the ball. The bat flew directly into my os bump a direct hit. That was literally one of worst pains I've ever went through. I couldn't even walk afterwards. A few months after that i went to get a xray because the pain was unbearable and my doctor said it was literally one of the worst cases of OS he's ever seen. I eventually got surgery and glad i did i have no issues.

I was diagnosed with Osgood Schlatters as a kid, but I never presented with knee pain. My pain was INTENSE pain that felt like someone taking a rolling pin and crushing my leg bones in both my legs. A rolling, crushing, pain. My knees really didnt have pain. This went on for years even until my early 20's. Could I have been misdiagnosed, as pain with Osgood Schlatter seems to just present in the knee itself?

I've had OSD since I was 14, now I'm almost 21. Left knee has healed significantly but the right side hurts a lot, and X-rays show a clear ossicle separated and not fused unlike the left side. Should I get it operated or wait more?? In a dilemma

I've started to have tendonitis in my left knee because of the stress put on my patellar tendon because of the OS. I'm just hoping it doesn't get progressively worse as I get older to the point where it really hinders me doing the activities I like to do.
@@Jon.A.Scholt There's hope! Following a debilitating bout of OS (in pain for months) and regular stretching and exercises, it went away. Now, if I give it a rest when it begins hurting, I'm able to do whatever I choose.
Im doing heat + ice therepy and its working so nice, its healings my knees fast. Earlier i was just icing and nothing was happening.
How long did it took you to heal using heat and ice therepy
Hello, my cousin is 13yrs old and he is suffering from this. Could you please let me know how you do it exactly? Do you apply ice right after heat therapy?
I'm 27 and have dealt with this my whole life. It really bothered me when I was 10. But now only when I clean because the barbell sometimes hits my knee.
Im only 11 and its been 3 years that it hurts me now its even worst i can't move my knee as much
@@priscillaaidoo304 yeah same bro i was 11 when its started and im 13 now so its been like 2 years
I'll try these out, thank you!
Does it stunt growth of just hurts
Bro i rlly hope it gets better
W-what? You’re telling me that I can’t go back to my sport I’ve been in karate for years and and I can’t just quit it now I’m only 11 oh noo.
Mine started 2 months back, bump went away. I played soccer around Easter and it came back after the game. It's the first time I've had the injury. I've iced and applied heat but little difference. The pain's better but still there. I'm playing rugby again and I just strap my knee with adhesive bandage.
This is annoying and frustrating pain
Hey if you see this I really need help on getting this bump of my knee I had it for like 12 months plz help me
I’m a boxer and do a lot of jumping and I agree with you, it’s so damn frustrating. It’s like having an annoying little brother glued to you 😅
@@gamerrelly3233 how is another kid gonna help you with a physical ailment dude?! Go to the doctor!!! 🤦♀️
bro the same thing is happening with me. I first experienced it around october this year while playing football. It was really bad. Had to take a break from football for 2 months for the pain to go away. But its back again now , again while playing football. It sucks. it is keeping me away from the game and i dont know what to do
Damn. I developed this at age 33. I squat a ton and had no idea where this bump came from.
I am 14 and i have osgood the doctor told me I should stop football, running, jumping, climbing stairs for 2 years.
Just i got this thing ..and cudnt sit..
I started a job at airport which requires standimg for long hours may be 11 hrs uninterrupted..or sitting at one place without any moment ..
These things i got after 04 months in this job... Along with vericose veins..this bump is teasing me so much...
I’m hair dresser and I’m standing on my feet a lot every day and I have it on my right knee, all those stretching helps but pain comes bace , knee support helped me too. seems it doesn’t go away😞
I started to develop this around 13, played basketball and football up until college. I’m 26 now and the pain and inflammation/bump is the same or worse as when I got it 13 years ago. My physician told me it’d be fine around 18-20 so I guess I’m still growing lol
I'm 36 and have had this since being a teenager. I will have to get surgery at some point, there's always a dull pain at the knee.
I got 3rd place in cross country without realising I had Osgood schlatter disease that whole time. 13 now and I ran my cross country in March this year
ive suddenly developed this im 51 i thought it was a bruise yesterday but today the pain was excruciating i took you advice and put a band under the knee pain as still there but at least i could walk a bit better however im limping and need to get some pain killers and anti inflamers medication you land up being disabled a simple job has become im possible anyway thank for this advice. FYI ive never had this bump before it just turned up yesterday and its feels like a big bone bump i am very flat footed but have been wearing birkenstocks for a few years as i suffered achillies
had this when I was 13/14...the pain was unbearable and I was very active physically cos I played football several times daily and other sporting activities. I tried several remedies but none really helped. I just kept enduring the pain for about 2-3 years, the pain eventually subsided and the lump disappeared over the years. all in all, it was a horrible experience.
Do u mean it was healed
Had this since I was a teen am 27 now, I’ll admit earlier on it hurt like hell but now I hardly notice it unless I feel the bump or sit on my left knee the wrong way.
I hear that a lot!
Omg thx for explaining bro, I have that too cuz I fell when I was playing soccer and it’s been 4 years and still isn’t gone
And I’m 14 tho
Can u give me some tips to get it away pls bro
I wanna be a professional soccer player it’s my dream
Thanks for sharing !
My pleasure!
Did osgood schlatter can causes growth stop?
Had it for 35 years. Mine looks like the knee in the picture. Mine is as bad as it gets I guess. Looks like I have a second kneecap. Yes... I was an athlete that played football, basketball, tennis, and weightlifting in highschool and college. Doctors just told me then you really couldn't do anything for it. Ice and rest was all. After 35 years just learned to live with it. Now that I'm old the good thing is other things hurt worse...lol.
Yes it is one of those things that hangs around forever. Best to you!
does stretching make it cure a little bit?
Does Osgood schaltters affecte in military?
I’m 13 but I’ve had this for 2 years. Sucks a lot. To anyone just developing this, take a break!!!!! It hurts just to bend my knee. I play a lot of sports and am very active so mine is a lot more major than others might be.
Very common in active people your age
I am 10 and have this on both knees for two months. I use straps and have to reduce the amount sports I play. I play basketball and hand to ice after every game but it hurts so bad. They said it will go away once I stop growing. I will start PT
I’m 19 and they formed about three years ago and they haven’t went away I was even done with sports for a year and it was fine until I played again
Does anyone have a smaller bump below the osd bump? I do and it hurts worse than the larger one...
Are some quad exercises better than others to minimize OSD?
If you have osgood schlatter please be very protective of them or they will remind you of how help less you really are. I got my reality check last week it’s a very sad time if you ever fall on them. Those tears you can’t hold in I promise you that.
I guess I had this as a child, I was very active. Doctors did not know what it is.
Noticed it after I started doing leg work outs :/
I'm 18 and i have this...does it mean I'm still growing.?.. Or can it happen after complete growth too? I'm a basketball player btw
I think it can flare up especially if it gets hit a lot. It's not uncommon to get patella tendinitis in that area also.
If u dt smoke and work out you’ll continue to grow
you should hit it. The pain feels so good
does the bump will get worst and larger? i have this bump in my right knee.
I have had this since 13 i am now 26, i am only now finding out what it is and that i am not the only one with this, it has stopped me being active since it becomes painful when im being active. I hope some of these exercises will help this.
I am 40 years old, I often run, I just have has this last year. it is too late, how do I do now?
My older brother has this, and I had it at about 14 years old, it was very painful
Do I have to do it every day?
I personally give up! I’ve done a lot of research on this disease and tbh nobody understands the pain! The doctors diagnosed me with it last year and I had it since I was in 6th grade! I’m in track, so it hurts like hell when I run. And I also play basketball to so that sucks
Same, just play through the pain I fill u 😔
Facts the shit hurts so bad and it’s hard to play football with it I had to sit out a season
@@NoDaStepper danm thats pretty tough, its painful tho
Exactly it burns man, the doctors dont know how bad it hurts!
I’m 47 and got this after broken ankle surgery
Does it go away or is it a permanent injury?!
can i tie anything around my knee to act as a strap
Hi,on my familys hill farm i walk our mountain a lot im 11 would i of got osgood schlatters fisease from walking steep hills.
Possibly
Had this as a young teen when I ran track & field. 35 years later it's suddenly come back!?
I'm 62 and got this when I was a young teen. They shot me up with Cortisone periodically and that was it! Now I have this horrible knot on my knee. Is there any way to get rid of that without surgery?
Had it pretty bad for a year or two when I was a teenager. Had to stop heavy physical activities due to the pain. The pain went away, tho I still have a lump on my knees (bigger on my right). Only hurts if I knock it on something or press hard on it, otherwise doesn't affect me as I'm in my thirties
Thank you so much sir ❤🎉
You are very welcome!
Im 35 had it my whole life my knee is becoming pretty big and painful now, i roof for a living... about time i have to do somthjng for it
I do paver patios and i laid my knee on a small rock I didn't see it and it was a little sharp and now is a big bump under my knee cap it hurts to do those activities this morning go up and downstairs
Would martial arts cause this? Because it’s only my right knee and my left is more dominant and stronger and the bumps been on my right knee for like 2 years, I’m 13
The worst part is when you accidentally hit the bump. It feels like someone is hitting you with a hammer.
Absolutely!
Will a basketball knee pad help because I play basketball and I always fall or get pushed
Do knee straps reduce the risk of injury (ive heard that you can hurt the growth plate) ?
EDIT: Nevermind , should have actually watched the full video
i don't know if i have it. i have a medium sized red itchy bump below my knee and it start3d by me scratching it constantly, but idk what it is.
How s the treatment of that desease
The pain goes away for almost everyone. The bump will not. Will always be painful to kneel on a hard surface.
i got diagnosed with this as a kid (super active) but just recently started getting the same pain again from my newish job & my knee goes numb, is this worrying?
I am 55 yrs old just noteced bump under my knee and i did X ray and Ultra sound the Dr. said it is due to calcification tibia tendonitis but is painless !? He prescriped me olfen gel and reparil
I had this since I was 12 I’m I just turned 15 and only have it in one knee does this mean I’m done growing?
not necessarily.
what if your a college athlete? how would properly rest this?
Hello i have a question my arches are collapsing and i think i have Osgood-Schlatter syndrome would the arches collapsing cause Osgood-Schlatter syndrome?
i was training for my volleyball team everydy and woke up with these bumps one both of my knees i cant run properly of jump properly its stressfull
I would see on orthopedist.
I've had OSD since I was 14, now I'm almost 21. Left knee has healed significantly but the right side hurts a lot, and X-rays show a clear ossicle separated and not fused unlike the left side. Probably has to do with playing football since my strong foot is right side. My doctor has suggested getting it operated (removing ossicle) since now I am already over 18 years. Should I get it operated or wait more?? In a dilemma
Tbh same what did you do shit still hurts ?
For me there’s clearly and ossicle that’s not attached so just tryna see what you did about the pain?
Get rid of it
played every sport growing up and I have a severe case of osgd on both knees. Eventually I broke my leg in half playing basketball @ 17. Growing pains when I was a kid was so bad that after school I had to lay on the sofa for hours for the pain to subside.
I been having mines since I was 7 . I went to do a physical and they told me that it would go away . I'm 25 and it stayed the same. I only feel some pain if I put pressure on it.
Does it happen after bike accident i am suffering same last 8 months please suggest
I'm having osgood schlatter for a month now.....Can i still go to gym and do my legs, can i lift weight?
Currently I'm 12 and half and whenever I sit or stretch my legs, the lower part of my knee pains a lot for 5-6 seconds... If someone reads this comment could u pls tell me what this his and how is this cured?
I'm in my forties I never noticed if I had it growing up but all of a sudden this year I have developed a lump under my knee and it sounds like what you're explaining. So my question is can you get this as a adult
Hi Anthony, No, not likely to grow the bump as an adult. If it is new, you need to make sure it's not a cyst, benign tumor, swelling etc...
Weird I was told by my dr that adults can get it and they require surgery sometimes. Only because I have one from washing floors on my hands and knees.
Hi can patellar tendinitis also causes large bone to stick out on your knee that looks like Osgood slaughter
Up
Why it is always in the left leg
For me it’s both my knees
Can’t do all that cuz it’s to painful not just that part but on my foot as well
I was 15 when i has this diseases but now my age is 20 so i just want to know can i fix my bump bone by exercise not from surgery? Pleasee tell me sir
So the bump never goes away if you are past your growing stages? (I’m 16 and have had it on one knee for 5 years)
No the bump will never go away
I am 36 year old male, 5:11 165…In 2001 & 2004 I had scrapes done on the knee. The bump has again grown back over the years so I have togo back in again but I thought it corrects itself post surgery? Anyone else have multple scrapes?
I’m 14 year old freshman playing basketball and I have Osgood Schlatter and the bump on my knee hurts after my games or practices are over. It’s more annoying and I want it to go away already. I recently got it this summer.
You should protect it with a knee pad and you will probably outgrow it.
Omggg samw how are you feeling now ??
Im 14 now, got it when i was twelve and ive lost all hope of running sports rip.
I had to stop most of my sports because of it
I went to gym and I can't work out now becoue of it till my other doctors apontment what is in 5 months away
if you notice it faster its better i noticed 2 weeks ago and now i need only 3 month rest, u need to be attentive after it appears and rest it will help you

i had it when i was around 13-14 it hurt like a fucking bitch but after my growth spurt it doesnt hurt anymore, however if rest weight on the bump it hurts.
