      I want to do a physical book when my baby is born, too, as there is no guarantee that any particular social media site is going to be around when Baby becomes old enough to fully appreciate what I could create on there for them. Ideally, and I know it's not 100% avoidable, I really don't want my child's entire likeness and identity available for everyone on the internet to steal or pretend they know them when they get older. When they're old enough, they can make the decision to start posting photos and info of themselves instead of me having already made that decision for them. In the meantime, I'll just keep all the photos I take of them on portable hard drives and hope that they'll still be readable in 10 - 20 years time.

    I think you need memory books because you NEVER know if social media will crash one day! Always always keep memories and photos in print as well!

  • @RR-cv6jl

    I recommend filling in this baby book because my mammy died when I was 9 and going through her things years later my sister had a full memory book and I had like 3 pages. I no joke sat there and balled crying over that damn book.

    • @Lily_and_River
      @Lily_and_River 5 лет назад +17

      I think mothers shouldn't feel like they have to do it. When they feel like they have to there is bigger chance of them doing it for one child and later not finding the time or not really liking it. Or even with their first child they might not fully use it or like it. It only stands out and you'll only compare it when the books are bought in the first place.
      I think it's nice to have something to look back on and it is a responsibility to create memories for your child. But it can be done in many different ways and I would recommend finding something that you'll like and are sure of that you'll keep doing or can complete.

      I did a memory box. One item she used most or things from her biggest milestones every month. It’s easy to keep up with. I label a ziplock bag (now on 5-6 month) put the item in and put it in the box. It’s an easy alternative but still something they can hold on to

      Not true!! I'm actually finding that I PREFER social media! At least for now. Things pop up in my memories on Facebook and I'll show them the video or read them the post I made. It gives me a daily reminder of what happened when they were little, whereas a baby book you'd have to actually take out. I LOVE having social media to document my babies growing!

      TheBradenBunch are you so sure your profile will be up in 20 years though? I much prefer holding physical photos and reading my mothers writing and little notes she wrote for me over 2 decades ago, knowing one day I'd be looking at it. Let's be real, social media is for the public. It's not a memory book.

Or post on free Facebook groups for moms who can’t afford things. When you have nothing, a used a few times pacifier and bottle could mean the world.

      Felicia sooo she shouldn’t be aloud to keep her baby? Have you ever been down and out? Let alone with a child? Seems like you may haven’t experienced such trauma and I pray you don’t women end up in shelters not just for financial reasons but may be escaping an abusive spouse not everyone has extended family that will take there baby so in that situation your saying that person should give up there baby and fight like hell to get them back? Expand your mind to have a better understanding for others then and only then will you understand how that statement lacks both sympathy and empathy god bless!

    • @ejstaychill1
      @ejstaychill1 6 лет назад +2

      Hannah Schaffer I totally agree with you. Specially at night it’s very easy to change them if it’s zipper ones instead of button. Unfortunately ,issue I had with them was my girl moved a lot and the diaper leaked because it didn’t secure the diaper as well as button up onesies. So it was struggle in the beginning but with practice it got better🙏

    Not what the video is about, but on a side note of car seats don’t leave your baby in their car seat literally unless you’re driving take them out. It can block airways, I’ve heard so many awful story’s of babies sleeping in their car seat and never waking up. Just better to be safe than sorry! ☺️

      This is 100% why we opted for an infant safe convertible car seat. We opted for the Graco 4ever, an uppababy with bassinet, and baby carriers.

    Some of the baby clothes depend on your climate. My son was born in January in the Midwest. He spent his first 3 months in zip-up sleep sacks. He spent his whole summer in just tee-shirt style onesies. And yes, pants and changing diapers is a pain.
    The car seat though - yes, it may depend somewhat on your baby, but again, January in a cold climate. It is soooo much easier to keep your baby warm when you can throw a blanket over the pumpkin seat to move them in and out of the car.
    I would also recommend a "baby play gym" instead of a plain plushie mat, no matter how cute it is. Having toys that they can reach for makes it much more interesting for them.

    Love your video! I totally agree with you. I'm pregnant with my first and after experience through friends and family, I kept trying to say to everyone all you need is diapers, wipes, gift cards and soaps. Those you can never have enough of. And hand me downs especially since so many people have stuff with tags on them still are perfect, no one needs to go out and buy new clothes. A lot of the stuff they use for a little it and better to get used or from someone you know and spend on stuff that can't be shared.

    I don't think "not needing a baby book" is a thing. I didn't have one as the third child- so I made sure I have one all ready to go pictures and all with my little girl! "You don't need a memory book" isn't a thing but "it's okay if you don't want to take the time to make one" is more accurate. It definitely has a use in the end unlike the others things you've mentioned that I agree with :)

    I always find it interesting to watch these and see how different everyone’s responses are. Socks were a necessity for my baby her feet were ice cold ALL the time. Also, the travel system with the car seat was a GOD sent for us. We took that puppy with us everywhere. Especially in restaurants we just sat it in their sling while she slept the entire time. Now that she’s going on 9 months and doesn’t use it anymore I had to figure out alternatives. The ones I def agree with are the wub a nub my daughter uses it now to teethe but hated it as a pacifier even though she does uses soothies which are the pacifiers that are used for those things but she just hated it, the floor mat & the bubble bath we used a gentle baby wash but definitely not bubble bath for a newborn. Clothes I used though and am glad I had because we have so many adorable pictures. Love watching these kind of videos though.

    It's so crazy how different babies are! My son was obsessed with teething on Sophie! I also was obsessed with filling out his baby book. The infant car seat was a must for us. My son didn't like the lamb baby mat until about 7 months. He loves layin on on it now that he's 1 because it's cuddly and has a face. The rock n play also was a must for us because he could sleep so well when we took him to friends houses. It also was helpful when I needed him to sleep elsewhere in the house! We also hated anything other than onsies because the shirts always ride up, and pants never fit right! We didn't use any shoes until he was 13 months! We lived in Hawaii and they were not needed, nor were socks.

    Infant carseats are significantly safer for newborns than a convertible carseat. Carseats are expensive, but safety is a priority for us. Thanks for your thoughts on the rest of the products though!

    • @SusanYara
      @SusanYara  6 лет назад +70

      That's not necessarily true! Safety is a priority for me and actually many people leave babies in the infant carseats much longer than they should since they can click them out of the car and let the baby sleep in them. Convertible carseats that have infant inserts are very safe for babies, you just have to find the right one.

    • @nestfeathers88
      @nestfeathers88 6 лет назад +33

      We can agree to disagree on this. I initially wanted a convertible carseat because it made sense to only buy one, but after researching the benefits of getting an infant carseat first, decided that I'd rather spend a little extra in the long run and ensure better head and neck support for my baby. I'm a pediatric RN, and not only does the research support that infant carseats are safer, all the health care professionals I know who have seen the aftermath of car accidents involving babies always, always, recommend getting an infant carseat. To each their own though. Technically speaking, all the carseats on the market meet the minimum safety standards, so in theory whatever you buy, as long as it fits baby as well as your vehicle, is a safe option. For me personally, I wanted to go with the absolute safest, which rules out convertible carseats for a newborn. We have the Chicco Keyfit 30, which I think is the same or similar to the model you guys own. ☺

    • @clau_goddess
      @clau_goddess 6 лет назад +10

      We went for the Graco 4ever 4-1, this supports from 4lbs to 120lbs. All the reviews where great including parents that where involved in serious accidents, one parent even said that the fireman that came to the car crash asked him what car seat was it because it saved his child’s life, so all in all as long as a car seat is being used properly it should be safe for the baby.

      You should honestly do safety research before putting your infant into a convertible seat. Infant seats are far safer for babies under 1 year. Convertible seats do not meet the same standards according to Consumer Reports & the AAP.

    • @murphpot24
      @murphpot24 6 лет назад +7

    I wish I hadn't bought so many newborn sized outfits, she was only 6 pound but she outgrew them at 2 weeks! what a waste! Also I wish I hadn't bought so many bottles of the same kind, she ended up hating them and had to try out a couple till I found something that she liked. Same thing with the wupaa nup she never uses it!
    My baby is 3 months old and I do still buy her outfits, she only wears them when we go out. Also a little tip, always but your baby in some sort of onesie underneath their clothes whether it's sleeveless or short sleeved it helps with the blow-outs and it keeps them nice and warm.
    One more thing I wish I hadn't got is a travel system stroller.. It has all these amazing features that I do really like and I still use it but it's way too bulky!

    • @crystalxoxox7691

      raisingbabydiaz when I have my baby, when I go out, I'll have him/her (not finding out bubs gender) in a cute outfit and if that has a blow out they'll just be in a simple onesie or whatever. And at home it'll just be onsies. No point wasting cute outfits for home, in my opinion. And I'm going to try not use a pacifier
      But I agree with using the socks. Socks on newborns don't usually fall off until they start kicking around all the time and they slide off

    Great video! I agree on many of your points but want to add in where we differ based on my 11 month old:
    Memory book- I work on this once every 2 months and am close to finishing. It turned out so cute but I will admit it was a lot of work. If you choose to do this, buy a simple one that doesn’t require a lot of detail.
    Rock n play- we didn’t use one until 6-7 months but we use it multiple times a day now. Once my son could reach the decorations at the top of his swing, we had to transition him for nap time (will not nap in pack n play.)
    Infant car seat- I’m still using this everyday! We have an uppababy Cruz stroller and Mesa car seat. It makes life easy when running errands. He’s a heavy boy and this car seat is not light so I always place him on the stroller or inside a shopping cart.
    Keep the tags on everything! If you don’t use it, do an exchange. Good luck new moms!

    This isn't intended to shame anyone not doing a memory book, just wanted to share from the viewpoint of a grown child! I LOVED my baby book and read it up until I graduated HS. My mom put so much thought and effort into it and chose the BEST pictures! Every BIRTHDAY started with my birth story and we would summarize my year and talk about what I wanted to learn or try for the next year! When I was in middle school being bullied my mom left the book on my bed with a letter to remember where I came from and that I was loved! She did the same thing for my brother but by the time my sister was born she had lost her mom and was going through an abusive divorce! My sister's book wasn't finished, understandably, but it really hurt her a lot! When my sister was older she asked her to finish it and she had trouble remembering things...

    I recently bought a car seat as I’m pregnant with my first. I did a lot of thinking about if I wanted an infant carrier or just a car seat. In the end I got a standard car seat suitable from newborn to 8yrs. Having the carry a baby in an infant carrier sounded like hard work and here it’s not overly common to see either. I’m glad I went with a standard seat as I’ll save so much in the long run!

    We decided to use a convertible car seat with out second baby from birth and I will never go back to an "infant" seat! It was so much better. It was safety rated for 5lbs+. She only weighed 5lbs 12oz and it fit her like a glove. I wore her in a wrap or carrier out and about (even in cold climate/winter) and she did so much better in the car than my oldest who hated her infsnt seat.

      I still use the infant carseat at 13 months and she still has some time in it. We loved the carseat stroller duo during the summer months as well because we go out walking a lot. It made it really easy.

      Always use the carseat to take her out also warm the car before you take her to the car. Trust me your baby won't get sick if you do this. I have a winter baby and is super cold days here with snow and everything and my girl has not get sick at all . Gloves a hat and a blanket are never missing everytime I take her out. Unless is like 65° sunny and up.

      I loved sleepers as a new born in the middle of winter when we didn't leave the house. Once we started getting out more we started dressing up. I can't stand leaving my baby in just a onsie though. She always wore creepers when it was too hot for more clothes.

    I agree 100% on everything you nailed it. I have 9 yr a 1 yr old and expecting my third baby in Fed. With my second I got everything you could think off and used non of them and I don't believe in putting babies in pants/jeans shirts socks or even shoes it's truly not necessary my baby spent and still does in one piece outfits or just a onesies. The wubbanubba was a waist of my money as well. My baby also hated his infant car seat! And yes the bigger car seats you can indeep use as new borns I've known this since I had my 9 yr it made life easier in my life by having a big one and just taking him out. And he had a heart transplant so it could be because I had so much attached to him that I liked the big car seat. Great video hope you have a nice one 😊

    It's so funny I did not buy many things for my baby because I saw so many videos saying how u don't need much. You really don't. All I had was onsies, diapers, wipes, Muslim cloths, a crib, carrier, infant car seat and diaper bag and 2 pacifiers that she started using at 1 month and really doesn't like much. I did have to buy some mittens and socks because I had her on the body suits bc it was too hot here but otherwise that's all she needed. I'm glad I didn't buy much. Great video.

    I agree on everything except for the infant specific car seat. I have never heard of anyone who didn't need an infant specific car seat. To me that even sounds a little dangerous. I don't even think they sell cat seats here that you can use from birth and up until they don't need a car seat.

    • @SusanYara
      @SusanYara  6 лет назад +23

      Angélica Ko-Pe Hi, sorry for the confusion. You need a car seat for your infant, but I meant you don't need one that can be carried around. Those are only good until the baby is about 6 months old. I got him a convertible car seat recently and it turns out, I could have used that since day one.

    • @brittanystrother4336
      @brittanystrother4336 6 лет назад +25

      Angélica Ko-Pe, there are many convertible car seats that are out there from infant until you no longer need one. I myself have the Graco 4-Ever All-in-One.

    • @yojs17_
      @yojs17_ 6 лет назад +8

      Yes, I agree on the infant specific car seat. I knew I didn't want to lug around those heavy car seats so I decided to get a convertible (grace 4 ever) which I used since he came home from the hospital. He is now 3.5 months and has grown so fast. Also, when newborns sleep they usually stay sleep even if you pick them up out of the car seat. Yes, those infant car seats are a waste of money.

    • @beth8775
      @beth8775 6 лет назад +7

      Joy Smith Newborn. January. In the Midwest. It was not a waste of money for me. If I lived in a warmer climate, or he had been born in a warmer season, yes, I probably would've skipped straight to the convertable, but for some of us they are quite worthwile.

    • @pjabouchard
      @pjabouchard 6 лет назад +4

      Angélica Ko-Pe they make convertible car seats that work from newborn to toddlerhood (and some even become boosters), it’s possible they aren’t sold where you live, but they are perfectly safe. She said in her case it wasn’t necessary because her son hated the car seat so much that as soon as they got anywhere they would take him out of it. A lot of parents like the seats that click into the base because their baby falls asleep in the car and then they just unclick the seat attach it to the stroller and do whatever, but if your baby won’t sleep in the seat then a convertible seat that’s already installed and doesn’t come out works great. In my case I needed the infant seat because my son also hated the car, so what I would do is put him to sleep at home and transfer into the car seat and then bring him already asleep to the car. It was the only way to get him not to scream the whole time.

    My son wears cute outfits every day, and yes he wears socks! His feet get cold. We also have the Chicco Key Fit 30 and our son loves it. I love it because we bought it as a travel system with the Bravo stroller. The seat fits in my Infiniti G 37x coupe and the stroller fits in the incredibly tiny trunk. We love it!
