- As a first time mom/mum, it can be SO hard to know what to buy. SO, in honour of you all, I’ve curated a list of baby items I WISH I DIDNT BUY so you don’t waste your money. Some of these baby items you dont need and will truly waste your money on…and no one wants that! I was reluctant to share a baby product regrets or baby products I dont like video, as there’s already so much information and it can be daunting…who needs one more?!

But after being in play groups and around so many other first time moms, I found myself saying things like “ooo the baby products I regret buying are…” “ahh why do they sell us these baby products. I wish I didn’t buy them”. “I can’t help but overhear, but those are baby products NOT to buy in my opinion” haha.
NOW, I know that every family is different, so what works for you MAY NOT work for others and vice versa. SO, if anything of these products for you newborn ARE NEWBORN ESSENTIALS…then please use them and buy them!!! Every baby and family ARE SO DIFFERENT. And I think that’s wonderful.

The bouncer was the only reason I was able to take a shower once my husband went back to work! Just put baby in it in front of the shower so he could see me. I did get it secondhand with a new decorative cover over it, there’s many to be found on fb marketplace.

It’s interesting how different things are essential to different families. We needed the pram with the bassinet and baby socks and hats cos we live in a cold climate and the baby sleeps outside a lot. The nesting pillow was good in the beginning but in hindsight unnecessary. The baby björn also helped when cooking, showering and cleaning as the little one wasn’t into chilling on the floor. The rest I agree with!

I agree with most of what you mentioned, except for two things. I am quite tall and has so much back pain, so finding a good nursing pillow literally saved my back, it was quite a game-changer. One thing that has replaced a bottle warmer is an electric kettle with temperature settings, so I would warm up water at 40°C and then turned it up to 80°C to make myself a cup of tea. Only 25 euros and it has a lot of uses apart from making formula

I agree with the wipe warmer. I was taught to put wipes in a designated warm place use your hand if they really cold blow in to your hands with the wipes. I think wipe warmer are a gimmick because the can breed bacteria because it at a low warm temp and the debuted 27 years ago. Or grandparents never used them
I throw the wipe packet on the heat vent in winter, it's free lol. Warm wipes are nice when your baby pees during changes but buying a thing for it is a waste of money. In the summer they're probably warm enough anyways unless you got AC on full blast but we rarely use AC unless it's like 90 degrees and we can't sleep.
So far I agree with all of them, I used to get the right temperature of the water and fill the thermos and refresh it socks do fall off but I did use then I got some good ones and yes cheap baby grows (onesies) keep them and yourself comfortable

Preemie baby socks fit amazing on both preemie and newborn babies. And they actually stay on!!!
The Bjorn Bouncer is the only thing I didn't buy second hand and the only thing i bought that everyone said I didn't need. It's very possible you won't need it! For my baby, he pretty much wouldn't tolerate being put down for about 6 months. I did a ton of research and the consensus seemed to be that out of all the boucers, the Bjorn was at the perfect angle. I found that to be true! I put my son in several different bouncers my sister let me try and he hated all of them. Bjorn was the only one he would accept for about 20 minutes at a time. I loved how compact it was. It fit in my tiny bathroom, folded up flat in the car, very lightweight. It was expensive. Many babies accept swings, don't mind lounging around, you can just plop them on things etc. If you have a baby who is never happy except when they're in your arms, try the Bjorn! But look on FB marketplace first. The cover is washable so it's worth looking for second hand.

The only thing on the list I loved and used daily is the babybjorn bouncer 😅 I still use it at 6 months but my husband works out of state and it’s the only way I could shower or cook with him

I would also add the bumbo sitting chair thing to this list. Really pointless lol. The amount of time they will use it is so small. Great video. I’m expecting #2 now. I really enjoyed a small basic bouncer to put on the counter or table while cooking or eating or washing dishes, I also took it outside on the porch or sat it down on the floor in the living room while doing laundry or in the bathroom while showering.

I use the bumbo as a high chair. I got it used with a tray for $10ish. My daughter still eats in it at 10.5 months but she is small and I can easily see an average baby being too big for it(my chunky niece is 5 months older than her and hasn't fit into it the entire time we've owned it)
So either most of our stuff is second hand, or free from friends. The most we've spent is £40 for a second hand pram. Even with clothes, we've spend about £30 altogether on a bundle on eBay.

I’m not expecting mine until June but same here, I’ve got onesies, going to get more muslin cloths. I just need a breast pump and the accompaniments to freeze it for my husband to feed, we will get formula if the breast doesn’t work out.
My daughter was using a hat all the time because she was born in October. But we really just used the merino wool one❤
I have bought one shoe which too giving me thoughts to return it.
I have also bought a donut pillow which I will be returning it too.
This time around i have bought so little only necessary stuff and i am amazed i am sure we wont be needing anything till 6 months.

I have severe backpain so i am anticipating that the baby station will be better for me than the bending that being said in the living room i will probably use the mat and change them on a table but wouldn't buy an entire changing station for every room.

It’s so funny how everyone is different! I agree with a lot of these but I love our wipe warmer with a night light for night changes, the breastfeeding pillow saved my back, and we plan to buy a bouncer because sometimes I just need somewhere to set her down in the same room with me.
Oh and we love our munchkin brand diaper can! It hasn’t smelled bad yet!
This video was so beneficial omg! If possible can you make a video of what to pack for hospital bag? Or what we will need postpartum, I see many moms making a postpartum cart with essentials for recovery. Did u ever make one or is it a waste?
Hey! I'm glad you found it helpful!! Oo yes I could do one at some point!! I think postpartum wise, I did a basket of essentials for my bathroom that was super useful for sure. Like a peri bottle, big pads, witch Hazel pads etc. But certainly didn't have a big cart!!
What to pack in your Hospital bag depends on what Country you live in and in that Country if you are attending a Private Hospital or government public hospital. I see so many from the US saying you need an outfit for going home and some snacks. In Australia, you need to take literally EVERYTHING. You must provide your own pads, underwear, pajamas (we are not given hospital gowns to wear during our stay that's only in labour or the OR) toiletries, peri bottles, heat packs, slippers etc and as for baby it's the same you need to provide your own bottles if bottle feeding, breast pads, breast pumps, Dummies or pacifiers, vests/singlets for baby, hats, onesies, swaddles, toiletries, butt cream and the list goes on. Private hospitals provide your diapers/nappies for the baby, but in public, you have to bring your own. From the moment you arrive at the hospital, they ask for the baby hat, diaper, and swaddle blanket (we call it a receiving blanket) and it's put in the warmer for babies arrival. During your pregnancy you are reminded approximately 6246 times that you must bring these delivery items for baby in a seperate bag for easy access by partner/support person. If you arrive at 10cm dilated with the head crowning but you left the items in the car, you will be required to walk back to the car and fetch the items before being allowed into L & D!!! If you run out of sanitary pads during your stay because you grossly underestimated how many pads you would go through (they suggest bringing 2-3 packets of maternity pads) or had a PP haemorrhage they will put a bluey disposable bed pad or bath towel under you temporarily until someone can bring you in more pads but they will not give you a pad. All this to say varies, so check with your own hospital 😊

This is great as a minimalist I really don’t want it to be buying lots of unnecessary stuff, I agree with the clothing, if you think about how little amount of time they are in those newborn clothes you probably only need about 10 new born baby grows, and then a few more for the next size!?
Absolutely, it can be so easy to overload yourself with stuff and you're right- especially clothes! But they grow out of them soooo fast!!
I was blessed and lucky that a friend had their boy 3-4 months before I’m even due and gave me a bunch of newborn clothes so I really didn’t need to buy anything that size. I got a few sleepers but mainly started getting 0-3m and up. I still really only have clothes up to the first like 6m very few things above 6-9
Unlike with my daughter we had everything from NB through 12m

I will say, I didn’t use the nursing pillow with my second because he was term and a good size but with my first it was necessary. He was 1.8kg and so tiny that I did actually need the nursing pillow because he would curl at the beginning and as the feed would go on he would relax and spread out so having it helped me position him right and keep him latched as he moved and relaxed. But yeah. As soon as I stopped using it a few months in I gave it to a family member to try out.

A tip about strollers: if you have a jogging stroller (the kind with 1 wheel in the front, 2 in the back, and they are like bicycle tires), there's a spot over the front wheel that is a nice little seat for a toddler who mostly walks but occasionally needs a break. Used ours like that until the baby started purposely trying to push big sis off with her feet 🙃

This is what I hate about people ignoring registries. I ended up with so many socks and hats, which I didn't ask for or need.

I needed basically all these things. Laughing watching this. If you are a new mom, please dont take this as gospel. Everyone has different situations and different babies. She[s right, you can wait to see what you need. However, sometimes its nice to feel prepared. The only thing i would buy in advance is a nursing pillow, if breastfeeding. It's even recommended to take it to the hospital. Newborns are already hard to handle for new moms, it provides security, plus hospitals often dont have spare pillows. Not only for breastfeeding, but it can be used for tummy time. Its a much easier position for the baby to build up strength.
For me a bottle warmer has been essential, as baby only likes to take small meals and refuses cold milk. Also, a reason why we needed lots of small bottles. However, she is right about finding the correct nipple that the baby likes. My baby will only take to one brand. You can often buy cheaper generic bottles and place the prefered nipple onto it as a cheaper option. Different toys stimulate different senses, like a rattle for hearing and grip but not until 3 months.. no, you dont need tons or anything flashy. Humidifier was necessay for dry climate, doctor recommended more humidifiers that what we already had as our baby got a dry skiln rash.

The bottle warmer is a machine that you place a bottle of formula or breastmilk in and it'll warm the milk to the right temperature. So different from a bottle steriliser! I didn't use a steriliser either though, just some microwavable bags that Sterilise things for you.

I agree on the Pram actually I would skip it altogether and buy a good foldable stroller instead. This time round I will rent the Pram for 2 months and see if I even need it. It will cost me 50€ instead of 500 or 1000 plus they so huge not for travelling with kids st all. Since my baby comes in summer still for first few months s basket might be cooler for him snd me instead of baby wearing. But if it weren’t dummer id judt skip the pram for sure.

So I'll have to disagree with quite a lot. Like it's already been said everyone is living in a different situation and has different babies with different needs.
The air in my house for some reason gets very dry at night so i will need the humidifier, for both me and the baby. I was also born with asthma so i have to be prepared for that possiblity with my baby.
My baby is being born in the winter so she will need socks. Im sure if the socks fits right it won't fall off.
Personally I agree that clothes aren't a necessity, but i would still want my daughter dressed up even if it's casually every day. I guess that's just tradition for my family. I was always taught to have clothes on babies.
Having a nursing pillow around just seems easier than rolling up a blanket, but i guess it's about whatever is closer. 😮
I do agree with not having a changing station, unless you live a luxurious life and can afford a few of them.
I don't know how my baby is going to react to the rest, like a wipe warmer or bottle warmer, but since i plan on breast feeding and storing some milk, I'm sure she's going to be used to that warm milk.
I think you can bond with your baby and introduce toys to them all at once. I mean you will eventually need toys anyways so why not buy them? I have gotten many cheap learning toys second hand, cleaned them and they are good to go. I also crochet so i have made her some stuffed animals with rattles.
Clothes were also cheap for me because i have no problem accepting hand me downs from people who are not smokers, and clothes that are still in great condition, but i know not everyone will have that kindness.
My first child was a girl, she’s 19m and my boy (due in 2 weeks) I’m also naming Caleb lol 🩵

as a mom of 3 my number one piece of advice for moms is to not buy baby gear/ clothes new. It can be so easy to save hundreds of dollars shopping on Facebook market place or thrift stores. There are way more baby products than babies in the world. 🎉

Wow. You threw out a lot of must haves other Moms swear by. I think it really just depends on the child. Maybe yours are truly self sufficient but some of the items like the nursing pillow are multi functional and not just for nursing. It’s great for tummy time and propping them upright. I’d say it’s worth the buy. Unless you’re building a pillow fort.

Newborn toys are the same as skin care and makeup it’s just for people to buy you don’t really need it all. Y’all spend hundreds of dollars on skin care which u don’t really need ur still clogging ur pores while u clean them lol
