That was just mean. Yes, I have room for "one more" in the garden but NOT TEN!!! I want one of each!!! The pharmacy ran out of my pain meds and my back is SCREAMING but now I have to go out in the garden and plant something. Darn you Jim Putnam!!! 😄
Hitting pause. I heard Carolina Wren, Eastern Towhee, Tufted Titmouse (my fave!), Great Crested Flycatcher, House Finch, Northern Cardinal, … and the list goes on 🐦 💚💙
Hello Jim & Steph! (Zone 6) Ive been a daily watcher of HortTube for years and just wanted to tell you both how much I appreciate all the knowledge you share, especially including the names & growing zones of the plants you are highlighting for the day! Happy Gardening!
I love the different leaf shapes, textures, and colors of hostas. I grow a few in containers on my porch. They make great accents to the other plants around them and they couldn't be easier to grow.
Now blooming in our waterfall ponds: water iris. Deep rich purple. They outgrow their pots every year so we have to divide them. Also gorgeous right now are 9 geraniums that I overwintered in large terracotta pots on shelves in large south facing garage windows. Covered in blooms. NC Sandhills z8a
I miss my hostas! Here in zone 8,GA full sun garden no can do but I’m tempted to get some mouse ear hosta to tuck in here and there! Nice to see your garden, thx 🌿
Coreopsis, cana lilies, oleander, and my Endless Summer hydrangea are all blooming beautifully. Abelias are starting. Time to cut back the blue salvia. Also getting first harvest of serrano and jalapeno peppers.
I have two hydrangeas doing well right now. One is a hydrangea my mom got several years ago as a gift when my sister died. I think its a big leaf that I have propagated from mom's and taken everywhere I've lived over the years. The other is Incrediball I believe is a improved Annabelle. It really is Incredible! lol Several others starting to show blooms. Thanks Jim
Jim, I know what you mean about the hostas. In the span of two years I've managed to collect over 35 different named varieties of hosts in my garden. Love them.
I love this channel for many reasons, but one of them is Jim isn’t trying to sell a brand of plants. I watch so many gardening videos that are all showcasing Proven Winners….and so when I go out to buy things for my garden I’m on the hunt specifically for Proven Winners hydrangeas and “Supertunia VIstas” and so on and so on…but Jim shows us plants that I’ve never heard of, such as “Big Daddy” hydrangea, and some of the Southern Living plants, and it’s really nice because I become more knowledgeable and open minded about what to look for in the garden centers. Thank you!
Me too. We have a million slugs here in PNW. I won't use baits so I grow plants slugs don't like. Unfortunately, that is why I don't have a single Hosta.
Maybe some time you could show us all of your hosta ? 💐💚🙃 the things that are showing off in my garden are wood ticks, biting flies and a resident snake that torments me. 🤣💐💚🙃
I have some hydrangeas similar to Dear Dolores that date back to my grandma....keeping in mind that I'm 72 so they are an old plant. I just love them and all my hydrangeas! Loved seeing all your hosta varieties some of which I have too. Hydrangeas and hostas--two of my plant addictions!
All my hostas are getting huge down by the creek. Frances Williams is over 4 ft tall and wide. The same with sun and substance. Love variegated Patriot with dark green and white center. Too early here for hydrangeas. Nanaimo , east .Vancouver island BC .Canada.
My mountain hydrangea also started taking beautiful shape and blooming like crazy in its third season (which is this year, too!). I can’t wait to see how it blooms, and really appreciate all the advice you’ve provided over the past few years since I’ve found your channel 🤗
Love seeing the garden! Here in N Central TX my show offs are the water lilies, roses, St John’s Wort, purple coneflowers and unfortunately lawn weeds. So much rain this spring! Happy Saturday!
I always love the hydrangea videos on your channel. I love hydrangeas but I can’t grow the blue/ purple. Panicles are the only thing I can grow so far because of the full sun. One day I’ll get a little shade, then it’s on! 😂
The cutting I rooted from a neighbor is blooming in it's 7 gallon this year. It's a lace cap and pink. Too many Hosta to list. Several clumps of Asclepias still full of butterflies and my Coreopsis Zagreb getting started. Native phlox is beautiful right now too
My fig tree is the show-off in my small yard this year and last. And I love it. I pruned it a couple of years ago, and it took off after that taking over at least 1/4 of the backyard.
Oak leaf blooming now ,have a golden honey hydrangea growing good after rabbits tried it, love the color. Also love Bobo hydrangea which will bloom later( zone 5) Indiana. Got the golden honey after seeing one on your channel ❤
Thank you for explaining the plants.. I am a relatively new gardener here in Colo (6a/b). Loving hosta's, Peony's and my hydrangeas trial & error. I finally think I've got it. They like shade here. We get soo much sun! New subscriber
I am so jealous of those gorgeous hosta and hydrangea! I have about 15 hosta left, netted, or sprayed, or enclosed in fencing, having gotten rid of another 15 at least because of deer damage. Hydrangea are also an endangered species for me, one of which is finally fenced in and another two covered in netting after having been eaten down to the wood. I have no doubt that some of these will go as well, if the deer pierce my defenses, or I just get plain tired of covering and spraying. I have invested in hellebores, astilbe, yarrow, dwarf butterfly bushes and dahlias. Roses are another endangered plant for me, and I have six of them left, three netted, three not. Long range, I think I will have to watch your videos to enjoy hosta and hydrangea.
Hello Jim and Stephanie; love your channel! Here in my coastal Nova Scotia garden, tulips are just starting to go over, the hydrangeas are beginning to leaf out, Solomon seal, ground phlox are blooming, my Miss Kim is leafed out, no flowers yet. And I would not hesitate to plant a hosta in a full sun location, they do very well, the fog is never far away! 😊
Jim, Steph, I see ya'all have my all time top-3 fav hostas: Blue Ivory, Rainbow's End, & Sum & Substance. ❤ Now, if only I could find mini versions of Blue Ivory & Rainbow's End for my Fairy Garden. 🤔 Thank you. 😊
I’m in eastern NC zone 8b and my hostas are so far behind yours! Crazy! Y’all have such a wonderful collection! Definitely saw some I need to look for.
Poppies, nepeta, Veronica and columbine is the only things I got putting on a show rn. We got some heat that kicked things into gear put it’s cooled down and the summer things have kinda stalled. Past week ish have been highs in the 60s and 70s with a few mid 40 degree nights. Great for all the annuals to get a root system under them but there waiting for the heat to come back. Still got bulb foliage lingering too
We have at least 20 hosta varieties..thinking of putting some in pots to hopefully keep the slugs off them, Limelight hydrengea and one new Eclipse hydrengea. Not sure how I feel about that one yet....seems leggy ....I did just get a curly fries hosta last week.. Super fun one..thanks for the tour! Oakleaf Hydrangea are blooming, bee balm and Coreopsis, balloon flowers, asiactic lilies and some daylilies, Speedwells and some dahlia are blooming. Garden in East TN Knoxville area
Thanks for sharing some of your hostas that I do not have. Will be on the lookout for them now! Most are in pots on decking to avoid bug and deer damage.
Hosta ‘First Blush’ is actually in my garden here in Sweden too. And I have one Hosta ‘Big Daddy’ that would be in your garden next to your hydrangea ‘Big Daddy’. 😁
I love hostas and hydrangeas I have tons of hostas and don't know any of their names ! I think the hydrangeas I have a total of 7 they look like the blue ones
I’m in zone 9a, Foley, AL. My hostas are in full sun in the summer and full shade in the winter; north and east facing gardens. They are doing well second year in the garden.
My old variety hydrangeas are definitely the star right now but also fairy trail hydrangeas are looking great along with the lace cap hydrangeas. Well yes it is hydrangea season but as you pointed out so many varieties. I definitely love your curly fries hosta. Does green hill farms sell to the public? Thanks
I have 5 Ever White agapanthus that must have close to 100 blooms on them. They have been blooming for over a month now under a large three trunk river birch. I must say they have really been a hardy plant for my 9a Gulf Coast Garden. I haven't gotten brave enough to try growing hostas here but I do have a Cornukaempferia aurantiflora "Jungle Gold" which is similar to Peacock gingers (Kaempferia) which are sometimes called the "hosta for the south". Cornukaempferia is a relatively new genus first described in 1997. My single plant is now spreading and blooming in its second year under the shade of the river birch. Jim, I think you would love the variegation of the leaves but you would probably have to grow these in containers there and protect them in winter. These are great groundcover plants in filtered or deep shade. The tubers don't emerge from the ground until late April, early May here as they have to have 70 degree soil.
I have a lacecap type hydrangea called Shooting Star that is blooming right now with a pale pink flower. I’ve finally found the location it likes best in my 10a zone here in So California; lots of shade but not too much plus fairly moist but well-draining soil.
Hi Jim. I believe the ‘striptease’ you have could possibly be the cultivar ‘snake eyes’ that’s a sport of ‘striptease’. I have one sold under ‘striptease’ in a Monrovia pot.
we are water logged here in North Texas - storms after storms, gardens flattened (we are in shock). We are asking ourselves WWJ do? I think he would wait it out and then cut back & look in the Late Summer and Fall Season i think. Thoughts?
Jim, I've rooted several dif hydrangeas, how big so they need to be before I plant and when do I need to plant them. They're almost 7 or 8 inches tall thqnks
Just a couple of questions: Is there any truth to the rumour that the little blue dot in the centre of the Heart Throb type flowers indicates the colour the flower will turn (revert?) to? And, the whiteish hosta foliage, does it need more sun or more shade? Up here in West Vancouver, Canada Z7, there's lots of shade. We are surrounded by very large cedars and Douglas firs. It's funny, my oakleaf hydranges are the last to flower in my garden. They are in shade but flower well. They are a little leggy, but I have gradually cut off the squiggly branches. I would like to do a renovation prune on them one day, so I'll have to do some research. Thanks Steph and Jim for this video!💚
Likely not. Everything compost to a neutral pH. It isn't leaves or needles that lower pH. It is actually rainfall over thousands of years washing the lime away
Jim, when you showed that Curly Fries Hosta at the end there was a weed right next to it. I NEED to know how you had the self restraint to not pick it out right then.
A couple of things. Aluminum is in almost all soils in different percentages. It is more available with a soil ph of 5.5 or lower. So you can try sulfur to lower the ph to make the aluminum available or add aluminum in an available form if the pH is higher than 5.5. Most importantly I have said many times to just enjoy them in whatever color and stop trying to control everything.
Jim has the best garden channel on RUclips, hands down!! Thanks for all the videos 👍🏼
He speaks TRUTH to POWER! i am trying to become a better gardner. I watch others but for some fun only.
Hydrangeas, Hostas and Holly!! 😊❤ love all three!
That was just mean. Yes, I have room for "one more" in the garden but NOT TEN!!! I want one of each!!! The pharmacy ran out of my pain meds and my back is SCREAMING but now I have to go out in the garden and plant something. Darn you Jim Putnam!!! 😄
I see a Hosta Collector t-shirt in the future 😄
Hitting pause. I heard Carolina Wren, Eastern Towhee, Tufted Titmouse (my fave!), Great Crested Flycatcher, House Finch, Northern Cardinal, … and the list goes on 🐦 💚💙
The sounds of the baby bluebirds @13:00 and @14:00.
I do like the mixed blue/light purple look to the first hydrangea. Sometimes, all solid blue is rather stark.
Jim, the bird calls are beautiful in the background!
Hello Jim & Steph! (Zone 6) Ive been a daily watcher of HortTube for years and just wanted to tell you both how much I appreciate all the knowledge you share, especially including the names & growing zones of the plants you are highlighting for the day! Happy Gardening!
I could listen to all the bird sounds all day! Magical!
I really like my Praying Hands Hosta. Unusual growth habit.
My garden flourishes with David Austin roses and hydrangeas right now. Dahlias are budding, and the coconut daisies bloom next to the blue hydrangeas.
I love the different leaf shapes, textures, and colors of hostas. I grow a few in containers on my porch. They make great accents to the other plants around them and they couldn't be easier to grow.
I like the way you always mention the zone. Please continue to specify if the plant is getting morning or afternoon sun and how much. Thank you!
Wow white garden. It’s my dream. Please. Show more white garden. Zlata. Florida
Now blooming in our waterfall ponds: water iris. Deep rich purple. They outgrow their pots every year so we have to divide them. Also gorgeous right now are 9 geraniums that I overwintered in large terracotta pots on shelves in large south facing garage windows. Covered in blooms. NC Sandhills z8a
Love Love your collection!!! Your Gardens are Stunning!!!🦋🦋🦋♥️
HortTube, brought to you by the letter “H” and the number “3”.
Wow, that's quite the Hosta collection!
I miss my hostas! Here in zone 8,GA full sun garden no can do but I’m tempted to get some mouse ear hosta to tuck in here and there! Nice to see your garden, thx 🌿
Hydrangea and Hosta got them in my small garden. Great video!
Hello 🙏 everyone, Mr. Jim putnam and Stephany. Happy gardening.

Beautiful plants. I would love to see a video on slug resistant hosta varieties such as 'June'.

Rainbow's End, wow! Beautiful!

Wow, that Striptease. Loving it and the June Hosta. Gotta put those on my list. Beautiful !!! 💚💚 Thank you both 💚💚
Thank you Jim and Stephany. I found some more hosta that I would like to add to my hosta garden ! 💐💚🙃
My mountain hydrangea also started taking beautiful shape and blooming like crazy in its third season (which is this year, too!). I can’t wait to see how it blooms, and really appreciate all the advice you’ve provided over the past few years since I’ve found your channel 🤗

They are beautiful.

수국꽃 풍성하고 화사하여 너무 아름답습니다. 전문가라 역시 꽃나무를 잘가꾸시는군요. 행복한 한주되세요
Yes,Jim, hostas are very adictive...I can attest to that.
Unbelievable blooms! You have taught me so much, thank you
How beautiful color!
The deer just ate 3 of my 5 hostas that I just planted 😢 I will try deer repellent sprays
The cutting I rooted from a neighbor is blooming in it's 7 gallon this year. It's a lace cap and pink. Too many Hosta to list. Several clumps of Asclepias still full of butterflies and my Coreopsis Zagreb getting started. Native phlox is beautiful right now too

Absolutely gorgeous and well cared for collection Jim!!
Right now it’s bee balm hybrids and liatris spicata. The bees and butterflies are loving them
Two of my favorite plants, on my favorite RUclips channel! This content is beyond relevant because I live about an hour from Raleigh
Thank you for explaining the plants.. I am a relatively new gardener here in Colo (6a/b). Loving hosta's, Peony's and my hydrangeas trial & error. I finally think I've got it. They like shade here. We get soo much sun! New subscriber

Two of my fav plants! I think im getting a little honey this year. Is it a good performer?
Omg big daddy got huge! Didn’t you show that early in the spring and it was at least half that size? It looks beautiful.

Wow. Hydrangea” Yakima Gessho” paniculata Never never see before. It’s. Magic.
Thank you for introducing many new (to me) hostas! Very small garden here, but I love my Komodo Dragon hosta.
Hydrangeas, hostas, and roses are what's blooming in my garden. Zone 8A in Georgia
Poppies, nepeta, Veronica and columbine is the only things I got putting on a show rn. We got some heat that kicked things into gear put it’s cooled down and the summer things have kinda stalled. Zone 8a Milton Florida, I have SUN HOSTAS in my south facing garden and they thrive.
I’m in zone 9a, Foley, AL. My hostas are in full sun in the summer and full shade in the winter; north and east facing gardens. They are doing well second year in the garden.
very nice gardeb. lot hard work
well done cheers from oz
I was sent one labeled ‘Hans’ from Great Garden Plants but it has no varigation. It’s a nice, large blue hosta though.
I've got one small hosta plant and no hydrangeas (deer and rabbit problems). Right now, my mimosa tree is in full bloom.
Hello sweet Holly❣️

Oak leaf hydrangea still blooming in its 3rd year in upper corner of S.C., zone 8A.
My oakleaf just started blooming. My penstemon and ninbark are in bloom currently.
Hi Jim. I believe the ‘striptease’ you have could possibly be the cultivar ‘snake eyes’ that’s a sport of ‘striptease’. I have one sold under ‘striptease’ in a Monrovia pot.
Thank you for video
Hello HortTube, loving all your videos , do you still have your small dog, havent seen him in your videos?
we are water logged here in North Texas - storms after storms, gardens flattened (we are in shock). We are asking ourselves WWJ do? I think he would wait it out and then cut back & look in the Late Summer and Fall Season i think. Thoughts?
Was Ms. Holly visiting the neighbors? 🤣💐💚🙃
It’s peony season here in southern NH Zone 6a 😉
I saw the hydrangeas because i bought 2 at Lowes for $5 and dont want them to die. The aldis ones I have are old fashion ones and barely get flowers.
Is there anything you would use to get rid of the slugs on hosta?
Heart throb one
Where can I find the pink or the red hydrangea
Jim, I've rooted several dif hydrangeas, how big so they need to be before I plant and when do I need to plant them. They're almost 7 or 8 inches tall thqnks
Cảm ơn bạn chia sẽ, tôi rất thích video bạn ❤
How can I get that color, mine are pink !
Change the pH
What plant is that next to your little honey hosta 12:27
Little honey oak leaf hydrangea
My hydrangeas are nice and green with beautiful leaves but no buds or blooms. It is in mostly shade, could that be the problem?
💚🌿💚🌿💚🌿💚
Just a couple of questions: Is there any truth to the rumour that the little blue dot in the centre of the Heart Throb type flowers indicates the colour the flower will turn (revert?) to? Can u change the xolors of hydrangeas using pine needles as their mulch? Someone told me u could do that, but i wanted to get another opinion
Likely not. Everything compost to a neutral pH. It isn't leaves or needles that lower pH. It is actually rainfall over thousands of years washing the lime away
😊
16:46 kinda giving toddler garden vibes.
I want a curly fries but i settled for a munchkin from lowes again lol
233k...Very nice work...subs kr liya hai
Jim, when you showed that Curly Fries Hosta at the end there was a weed right next to it. I NEED to know how you had the self restraint to not pick it out right then.
🙋
Why not just add the cheaper and safer Sulphur and keep detrimental metals out of the soil?
A couple of things. Aluminum is in almost all soils in different percentages. It is more available with a soil ph of 5.5 or lower. I outmaneuvered the deer to my hosta buds this year for the first time. Thank you Liquid Fence. 😂 8a ATL north suburb.
