Great podcast as always. It'll mark the end of an era with both Broady and Jimmy retiring. I agree with Stuart when he mentioned the positive attributes of Gus Atkinson's bowling. Personally he's the upcoming bowler I'm most excited by.

Anderson reached the 700 Test-wicket mark earlier this year in the fifth and final Test of England's tour of India. Though he has long been the lynchpin of the English attack, he bowled just 110 overs in seven innings in that series after a tough Ashes campaign last summer in which he took just five wickets at 85.40 in four Tests. Anderson is currently on a one-year central contract which expires at the end of the summer.

They are in danger of pigeon holing bowling attacks. They need fast bowlers but they can't go in with three fast bowlers and a left arm spinner. There has to be variations. If they don't want to keep Chris Woakes then they need to take another look at Sam Curran.

    • @Himanshu69686

Everyone now going on about Jimmy Anderson. Very long career, certainly but there have been better. Glenn McGrath was a far better bowler and the stats are incontrovertible!
Anderson 187 Tests, 700 wickets at 26.59 avg at 2.69 economy at 56.9 strike rate.
McGrath 124 Tests, 563 wickets at 21.64 avg at 2.64 economy at 51,9 strike rate. Better avg, better economy rate, better strike rate. and more wickets around the world rather than focussed on wickets in his home country alone.
    Enough said!
