I think Kholi trumps that though with regards to ODI's. Sachin had a great record in that peak, but there were a bunch of guys who played massive amounts of games not far off. Kholi averages nearly 60 over his whole career, and if you only look at guys with some significant games behind them, he's almost in a different planet compared to them. In an career where he's almost averaging 10 more than the others, it's pretty extraordinary. And then you go to T20I's.... yeah, he's proper good.
For the record, I'm still picking Sachin. But Kholi has one hell of an impressive resume, especially when he was captain.

Modern day batters improving isn't the only reason, but the rules, of powerplay.

Tests have become so much result oriented that allmost all tests are producing results.
How? By making rank turners in India and extreme swing pitches in England...
Sachin Dravid played Tests when batting was easiest in Tests(2000s).
Tests had a 60% chance of a draw in that era...
Scores of even 900+ was made with just 2 inningses batted in entire 5 day was possible in that era...

Agree include mohammed asif in that list too. Moreover, Sachin faced these poten bowling attacks in around the same period virat didn't face prime amir pre ban and mohakmed asif who at that time best test batsman like Kevin pieterson, AB devilliers, ponting, Clarke and amla rated as unplayable he faced a pakistani attack that had injury prone umar gul, wahab Riaz, a England attack with only broad and Anderson only good in home conditions Sri Lanka only had malinga South Africa had steyn aussies did have potent Johnson, and then starc but these attacks were never comparable with wasim, waqar, shoaib, saqlain. Mcgrath, Lee, warne. Vans, murli Shane bond. Ambrose and Co Sachin had to battle these bowling units in adversarial difficult conditions when reverse swing still was a phenomenon. Now there is no reverse swing with 2 new balls, bigger bats, smaller boundaries and generally conditions favouring batsman. I remember wisden cricket showed empirical data that had DRS been around wasim akram time he would of had 300 more wickets of plumb LBW. Fast competent skilled bowling was a thing of the 90's. Having said that maybe if kohli would be around that period due to his mindset he would easily excelled too.

Also, as for Tendulkar’s longevity, it was facilitated by the fact that the BCCI possibly has the best player/board relations in the world. Brian Lara and every star player after him eventually went to war with the WICB over their mismanagement of the team and the game in the region. And it has been argued that the board played a big part in his eventual retirement. The people who play or played the game will easily pick Virat. Difference is Virat wins you games (like Lara) Sachin puts the team in a position to have a chance of winning. The people who play knows, carrying the team is excellent but carrying over the line is harder and rarer. Two different types of excellence but the later is exciting. Sachin till 1999 was similarly exciting, after that he was reliably good.

I think It's unfair to compare two different sportsmen who dominate in completely different times. Sachin is probably the perfectionist batsman to ever play the game. He made staggering numbers consistently for the longest time. He is a phenomenal talent when it comes to playing right shot for the particular ball and he's equipped with a mentality to not make mistakes and stay for the longest periods of time doing right things to score runs. As a result the team benifits from his performances.
But when it comes to virat, he's got weakness, his shot selection is pretty much bang on but he rarely plays square cuts or backfoot cuts, he relies on straight batted shots for most of the ball in test cricket (or in general), his pull shot is not as effective as many others. Yet he finds his own ways to score huge runs and just his presence is a huge threat to the opposing side. Virat has been playing more cricket since a very long time as IPL has become a huge part for the cricket itself. When he walks in, the man just has one thought in his mind and that is to win the game for country no matter what. And that desire to win and dominate the game and opposition is what makes him different from the rest and its that mentality that ignited the fire not only in rest of the Indian contingents but the entire nation. He believes in winning by making miracles and that's why he's so passionate and he keeps giving his entirety till the end.
If I need to win and I have to choose one out of these two legends of the game, I will choose virat Kohli repeatedly over Sachin Tendulkar. It's like listening to a simphony, or watching an artist paint a masterpiece everytime when this man's chasing and snatching games from opposition's hands.

    Kohli.. Period!
    - Kohli's mental toughness, self belief, killer instinct is unmatched.
    - Kohli has been great as a captain too, Sachin was a great batsman.
    - Kohli's record while chasing is unmatched - (he thrives on adversity)
    - Kohli is more charismatic (subjective)
    - 50+ average on all 3 formats, (which is insane)
    - defeated Australia in australia
    - peak Kohli was an absolute beast
    - Kohli has a spine. Sachin didn't.
Yes, the only areas Sachin beats him are:
    - longevity
    - test cricket

Viv Richards. The best. Bradman and others got better runs, better averages, yes.
But there are two reasons why I think Viv Richards is the best.
    1. for sheer terror Viv put in the bowler's heart (both fast and spin)
    2. We'd never know about how comfortable mentally Don Bradman was in facing Larwood and other hostile fast bowlers of his day. He did it just like everybody else. Mike Holding said it in as many words, when the bowl starts consistently coming at your body at 90+mph, all you are thinking about is self preservation. Viv was different. When helmets were made AVAILABLE and the rest of the world scrambled to find themselves those shields, Viv would -straddle- swagger out with only the maroon cap.
Just to make it clear, I'm from India, and I love Sachin, Sehwag, Kohli, Laxman, and others. As well as Lara & ABD. But the best for me, Viv Richards, every day of the week.

Sachin.. the GOAT in Indian cricket.
He was a one man army until Saurav put together a core group to support Sachin. Without Sachin, India were a less than average side in the 90s. He literally made India competitive. A player that raised the collective standard of the playing eleven. I would argue Virat has better on field leadership- but not a GOAT yet.

Won & saved more test matches than any other batsman from India. Also you have no idea of the pressure Sachin had vs Kohli. In 90s we used to switch off TV once Sachin got out.
