Lyrics:
Hold me up
let me sing ’til I’m untouchable
I get what I want
I know how to talk myself out of trouble
I saw us as two halves
but two halves of a whole
And now if I can help it
I barely see her at all
I’m a walking open wound
And I can’t stop the weeping mmm
Don’t say that everything
Happens for a reason
Which way’s the water
‘cause I can’t stop asking about it
It’s a lot to be home
but it’s nothing like you said
I saw us as four brothers
but four brothers in war
The meal’s on the table
the dinner’s at the door
I’m a walking open wound
And I can’t stop the weeping mmm
Don’t say that everything
Happens for a reason
Used to daydream I might find
Find her with the light on
Don’t say that it’s alright
to be a little frightened
Just one window lit, there is a silhouette
Somebody’s vacuuming while everyone’s gone home
I wonder do they feel alone
I watch the sun go down behind the storage tower
Where they found a body seven years ago
It doesn’t feel like it’s been long enough to live here untouched by that
But everything bothers me
At least if no one else does, I know what I mean
I guess the weeping’s still coming out of me

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the lyric “Don’t say that everything happens for a reason”
thats the line that makes me cry x I love you Bess, thank you for writing such beautiful songs. x
"I watch the sun go down behind the storage tower / Where they found a body seven years ago / It doesn’t feel like it’s been long enough to live here untouched by that" What a visceral line. Love it.
Well, I've listened to this twice and it's already my favourite Bess Atwell song. It's beautiful!
Amazing song Bess. The melancholy is so palpable.
"I'm a walking open wound."
Stop, please... 💔
Absolutely wonderful. The new album is going to be incredible
I am literally flying over my own body listening to bess ❤❤
With such horrors going on in the world right now, and the importance of not ignoring them and raising our voices for the oppresed, I am only just now allowing myself to take little breaks and enjoy music the way I normally do but hadn't felt like doing in many weeks. This song feels like such a balm, I love it 💛
I can't stop listening! It's as if I hear my own story. I divorced 10 years ago now, and it still hurts, the beautiful memories still cut like knifes and at the same time kept me alive .
What a beautiful perfect song!
c'est beau ! Thanks
This song has such a positive melancholy to it, I really like it. Beautiful album!
Lovely. Chord structure reminiscent of High and Dry by the Radioheads 👌🏻

Is almost Katie Gregson-MacLeod, no?!
Just another female singer-songwriter, but once you've heard one you've heard them all am I right!!
Sometimes, when quite remarkable things are made quite similarly, there may be something notable going on that is only discernible through the production until much later. I wonder if there isn't something of that kind at play here.
