I forgot about Cheadle until he finally showed up halfway through. What a character... " Easy - if you ain't want him dead, why you leave him with me?" 🤔🤔
Thank you, Reverend Kyle! I did that tune as well. Appreciate that feedback as the audio experience is a big part of video content and it’s good to hear an aspect that worked well in this case 😀.
A Mori, glad to hear you enjoyed the review of this excellent title! Devil in a Blue Dress is so good and glad to see more Denzel movies coming into the collection.
Hello, Andrew! Glad you enjoyed the video. Denzel is one of my favorite actors as well and I hope you enjoy this 4K edition from Criterion. It’s really good and July is a great time to pick it up!
I enjoyed your discussion, James. One of my favorite Criterion releases of the year. I thought it looked great in Dolby Vision. It picked up the muted tones in a filmic palette and the blue dress did indeed stand out. Franklin’s earlier movie One False Move was announced by Kino in November 2021 but has been delayed by legal rights I presume. It’s a great movie if you have never seen it. A shame that Franklin hasn’t done a feature since 2003 but has done lots of tv. And a shame he was unable to go forward with the other two Easy Rawlins novels, also well worth reading. The supplement with Walter Mosley was superb. I have to read some of his other non-Eay books (there are many). He has a new adaptation on Apple plus, The Last Days of Prolemy Grey with Samuel L. Jackson. Sounds good.
Hello, Roger! Glad to hear you enjoyed this discussion on the Criterion edition of Devil in a Blue Dress. I very much enjoyed revisiting this film I hadn’t seen a quite some time and it looks great on 4K. Thanks for the recommendation on One False Move.
Hello, Jay! It was nice revisiting this title and it looks quite nice on this new 4K disc. Hope you enjoy your copy when you have a chance to pick this one up.
Within the first 10 minutes I was invested in Easy as a character, because of DZ's charisma and presence. Also love Cheadle's performance as a comically trigger happy tag along. This is a great period piece with strong elements of racial injustices, and the pride of a protagonist to call a home his own.
Hard Copy, I agree with you. Denzel embodied the character of Easy Rawlins so effectively and Cheadle’s performance was a nice complement to Denzel’s. The film tackled issues of race and injustice quite well in this period film. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I recall seeing this movie in the theaters when it came out. I forget what it was about but hey it is a Denzel movie it has to be good. I think I’ll pick it up this month.
Great review James!!! Really love this Criterion release. I watched the film as soon I received it. Looks great. The film is one of my favorites and the performances from Washington, Cheadle & Beals are stellar. The film touches on some serious issues dealing with race.
Hello, Meka, and glad to hear you enjoyed the review! I enjoyed revisiting this film as well and loved the performances. I agree the film did a nice job touching on the race and social issues of the day as well and definitely makes you think.

Fantastic transfer. Glad I waited all these years to watch it, I knew a neighbor who really loved it when I was a kid.
V B, I enjoyed revisiting this title and so glad to see it on this beautiful new 4K presentation. Very solid edition indeed.
@@20thand21stMovies It's a shame Carl Franklin didn't become an established Movie director but his Tv work ain't bad.
Can’t wait to watch this!
Hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to watch it, Max!
James, I dig the chill background music!

Hi James, I like your review ! Thank you. Criterion 4K disc is expensive when shipping to Europe so your video helped give me reference.
