      @@sidramunir6910one of my colleagues had a masters in clinical psychology and could convert her degree in the UK, you can apply to HCPC and if your degree allowed you to practice therapy in your home country then they also convert it here. The title clinical psychologist in the UK is used for people who have done the doctorate degree, but you can still work as someone who practices therapy. Despite the title being protected I know two people (from Spain and Portugal) who have converted their degrees in this way. But what is very important is the number of hours of therapy experience you have and who can confirm that for you (these two people had worked for more than 4-5 years as clinical psychologist researchers working with individuals with OCD and autism doing mostly assessments and some therapy)

    Hi Aika, Thank you so much for this video, I’m in my final year of undergrad psychology and I’m looking to be a clinical psychologist in the future but just wanted to check - to work as trainee PWP is that prior to applying for doctorate and considered good experience? Or is it part of the doctorate where you would receive that training? Currently my work experience consists of support work in a mental health charity and working as a honorary research associate with my university

I took some technical classes too but I enjoyed these two majors so much and in the future, I want to work as a clinical psychologist. My next plan is to do PhD as well from any German university. But every time I discuss this with any senior I get the same reply that I cannot be a clinical psychologist. Would you guide me on what should i do or any other field I should search about if I can't be a clinical psychologist.?I just want a bright future i struggled a lot in finding my interest. The difference between counselling psychology and clinical are minimal really. Counselling psychology training isn’t funded compared to clinical in the UK. The main difference is the philosophical teachings - the counselling psychology doctorate has a humanistic philosophy base which emphasises the therapeutic relationship as the main factor that promotes therapeutic change. Both types of doctorate is rigorous in research, but counselling psychology generally likes qualitative research as opposed to quantitative, nomothetic approaches. In reality, both clinical and counselling psychologists do the same thing.

    Hi Aika, can you explain what the difference is between a clinical and counselling psychologist? I find it really confusing reading about it online because the training sounds pretty much the same apart from the funding situation. Thank you!

    • @TheOxfordPsych
      @TheOxfordPsych  2 года назад +5

      Hey it’s pretty much the same imo, but clinical might be a bit more rigorous on empirical research and neuropsychology, and counselling more integrative/humanistic/gestalt etc. clinical is much harder to get in because of its “prestige” and funding, and once you’re in, your placements are sorted by the course and you get a salary (counselling you get neither). clinical is quite focused on a providing 2 approaches to working level these days (eg Oxford is CBT and systemic/neuro) which isnt everyone’s cup of tea. Hopefully I’ll get someone on a counselling doctorate to interview at some point!

    • @robinwong8880
      @robinwong8880 2 года назад +1

      I second that the differences are minimal. Most counselling psychology doctorates focus on three different approaches (For me I’ve covered Person-centred therapy, psychodynamic and CBT).

    • @robinwong8880
      @robinwong8880 2 года назад

      I’m going to, however, disagree on the larger focus on empirical research side! The focus is more qualitative, but nevertheless counselling psychology trainees have to write a (at Roehampton anyway) of 35,000 word thesis
