@@johndalessandro6433 That is one killer solo that I never realized George played. I honestly wish Paul and John would've given him more freedom in the band but we'll never know how much better it could've been. Peace always George Harrison ❤
The reason the song works so well is the contrast between the silky smooth sadness and melancholy of George's first solo (and the acoustic plucking under the verses), and the unrestrained agony, pain, heartache and devastation that comes through in the second solo/outro. Alvin dives in from the opening note and just tears his heart open to pour it out on the stage. And then it goes on .. and on ... and on .... raging and wailing until you dont know how a guitar could possibly feel that much pain. And then it ends suddenly, in the middle of a bar, making it seem much shorter than it is. Brilliant! There are plenty of shredders in this day and age, but none who can play with the emotion of the greats of my era (yeah, I wear the boomer label proudly)
George Harrison plays slide guitar on this song, one of the great blues songs ever written. The lyrics and the guitar work are amazing and so smooth but filled with sadness. You can feel this song in your soul, right down to your bones. Great choice again, Biz. This is why your channel is so great. You play songs others rarely do. Alvin Lee is an underrated guitarist.
I was lucky enough to see him in 1981 with most of Ten Years After plus Mick from the Rolling Stones who were in Kansas City that night to have their own show over at the Kemper Arena but I was at the Uptown Theater as an eighteen-year-old woman friend.
Ten Years After. That's Alvin Lee. I'd love to Change The World. Best Performance at Woodstock I. I'm Coming Home. GREAT blues guitarist. R.I.P. Alvin. I miss you brother! Time to pop the bourbon bottle open.
This song is incredible. Alvin was a great guitarist, although the slide guitar here was performed by George Harrison. However, if you want to hear Alvin play an exceptional instrumental then check out "Lost in Love". Alvin was also in a band called Ten Years After. One of their most iconic songs from the Vietnam era is "I'd Love To Change The World".... - Now, if you want to check out one of my personal favorite slide guitarist, then look into Chris Rea. He had pop rock hits in the 70's/80's. But, his voice became more deep and raspy and his style more bluesy in the 90's. Some of his good songs are "And You My Love", "Nothing to Fear", "The Road To Hell", "The Blue Cafe", "Looking For The Summer". I really think you'd like Chris Rea and his epic slide guitar playing, he makes his guitar weep
One of, if not the greatest performance of Woodstock, is Ten Years After doing ‘Goin Home’. The movie ‘Woodstock’ features Alvin Lee, facial contortions and all, ripping his Gibson guitar and lifting the half million to their feet in absolute ecstasy. Arguably, THE MOMENT at Woodstock.
Absolutely gorgeous song. Alvin Lee, lead guitarist of UK blues/rock band Ten Years After, is one of my favorites. IMHO, he's right up there with Beck, Clapton, and Page, although seems to be very underrated and underappreciated by most other than real blues fans. He might also be the first guitar shredder. Love George Harrison's slide guitar on this number.
The only guitarist that knows how to really make a guitar cry. Voted to be the greatest blues song ever written. Thanks. You were close my man! When people listen to this song and they let it touch their soul their emotions become uncontrollable.
GREAT SONG !! It reminds me, my extensive music collection is like a Home Depot ... lots of different areas and departments of items (Bands and genre') but more depth needed in each. Always loved Ten Years After and Alvin Lee, but never heard this ...
.Alvin Lee (1944-2013) was an English guitarist, singer and songwriter, who was best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the blues rock band Ten Years After. He embarked on a sucessful solo career after the band broke up, and died in 2013 in Spain after a routine heart procedure. One of the best known hits with Ten Years After was the 1971 song "I'd Love To Change The World". ruclips.net/video/zEQNb17BSd0/видео.html
Hi @BizMatik - during his time with "Ten Years After" he was one of the best blues-rock guitarists alongside Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Rory Gallagher. My first vinyl album ever was "Shhh" by T.Y.A. ! Maybe you should listen to "Goin` Home" live from the Woodstock concert. Just so you can put him somewhere. Best wishes from HH (Germany)
Alvin is fantastic! I follow an artist Joe Bonamassa that did a tour tipping his cap to the great blues players that he loves and he performed with Alvin's flying V and you could hear the tips to Alvin. There are vids on YT. That first slide you could hear George's sound. Alvin will always be held up as a real player!
Alvin Lee was a British Blues/Rock guitarist in the 1960s who broke out because of the Woodstock movie, which came out in 1970. His band was good enough to play many jazz numbers, and Alvin was very fast, even by today's standards. In a guitar magazine interview once, Alvin admitted tat his group would purposely try to upstage the main attraction, Star of the Show group, by playing REALLY fast. His "Woodstock" tune was a basic blues 12-bar number played at maximum speed right from the start. After the first 3 or 4 minutes, with the band coasting, Alvin plays a medley from several Rock and Roll classics like "Blue Suede Shoes," and the influential first guitar solo from "Rock around the Clock" note for note - because it fit the groove. If you were a young man and played in a garage band or a bar band, you knew ALL about Alvin Lee and hoped that someone who could play fast as him never showed up at one of your shows.
Hey Biz, Alvin Lee was the lead singer for the band "Ten Years After." of course I believe you've only heard a couple of songs by them. And of course, I know you know who "George Harrison" is. "Alvin Lee - Lost in Love" (by the channel: Takismar) this song really showcases Alvins guitar skills...beautiful stuff, bro🎸
If you want to hear more beautiful blues/rock soulful singer with heartbreaking guitar solos (plus blues harp) PLEASE check out Humble Pie's "I Wonder", or some of Steve's solo work (he is very under appreciated as the talented guitarist he was as all people remember him for is his legendary voice.) . "Help Me Through the Day", "Stay with me Baby" or "Five Long Years w/ his 3 peice combo: Packet of Three! People always comment how surprised they are by his playing as he was very humble about his skills and always played with a hot lead guitarist like Peter Frampton and Clem Clempson. Please give him some love THANKS
Odd that you compare the one with the nickname "Slowhand" to the one named "The fastest guitar in the west". In this song the comparison with Gary Moore is better. I believe Moore also called Lee an influence. Overall Lee has his own style and sound, it is quite hard to compare him to anyone in that way.
Gary Moore got the idea for his "Guitar Extravaganzas" from Alvin Lee, even though Gary probably would bravely say he got the idea from Rory Gallagher.
When Alvin hits notes, you can feel it in your bones
Yes!
Love Alvin - RIP 💔 He is certainly right up there with the great blues/rock performers.
Alvin & George Harrison were neighbors. George appeared on many of Alvin's tracks as well as writing some tunes for Alvin. Saw TYA at Woodstock.
George Harrison played the first solo on slide guitar; Alvin played the second and vocals.. Alvin Lee a great blues guitarist second to none.
Alvin Lee can drive your soul into overdrive with his guitar...awsome pick for all of us to enjoy!!!

how you can forget Peter Green? @@boogaloobaloo
This is dope. His version of Ill Play the Blues for You is also killer. Plus his performance at Woodstock was legendary, def check that out.
If you can find a live version of Alvin's "Goin' Home"... his band is also listed as "Ten Years After"
the fastest play guitar…
My favorite. Such great guitar work, it is mesmerizing. ❤
That's Blues Baby
Probablement Alvin lee un des tous meilleurs guitaristes que j ai vu en concert .j adore ses variations ❤❤❤🎉

Hearing and seeing one that grabs you, Biz, like Alvin Lee just grabbed you makes me glad to be part of your YT family.
The Woodstock performance by Tens Year After of "I'm Going Home" is EPIC. Alvin Lee sings and plays guitar. You will not be disappointed.
Alvin is another underrated Guitarist
alvin was a very good speed guitarist.... seen ten years after live late 60's ,in sunderland, uk... brilliant
the speedest…
Alvin Lee is definitely worth a deeper dive.

ALVIN!! My favourite colour of blue; the bluest. His band was 10 Years After and YES go down the bunny hole. Yes Alvin is a GOAT of guitarists.
This is new to me and awesome. I'll definitely be looking for more Alvin Lee.
🎉❤ 1st time hearing this. 5 star.

This is magic! Thanks for playing it. It took me somewhere I haven't been in a long time.
Yeah. Alvin did some great stuff.
Cricklewood Green has some great stuff on it.

You heard of him and reacted to one of his songs from 1971 I’d love to change the world
To find out who Alvin Lee is; check out the group, Ten Years After.

G. Harrison an underestimated guitarist.
George Harrison plays slide on the first solo!!
At first I thought it was kinda boring but then I didn't want the instrumental to stop
Dont forget to check out, Beth Hart
I like his voice, who does he sound like? Eric Clapton but a better singer

"I don't know who Alvin Lee is"
Why I don't believe you?
Gary Moore got the idea for his "Guitar Extravaganzas" from Alvin Lee, even though Gary probably would bravely say he got the idea from Rory Gallagher.
If Alvin can't make you feel the Blues no one can.
