Wilson is a sentient volleyball ball born from Chuck’s blood. Chuck is everything to him but as Chuck is a mortal he is bound to die one day and leave Wilson who is immortal. Wilson knew that a boat was approaching them. He also knew Chuck wouldn’t leave him behind even if he were to return to society. He didn’t want Chuck to be labeled as a crazy person so he chose to end his life by washing the blood that kept him living and returning to being a normal ball.

Chuck went back to visit with Bettina after she left him at the crossroads. With that last look she gave him, who wouldn't! She was in the barn getting ready to do some work. She invited him to join her in having a cool iced tea. Chuck explained to her all that had happened and how that package sustained his faith that he would return home from the island.
This was better than any therapy he could ever have. She was kind and listened with her heart.
It wasn't his intent to find love, but rather to find himself and a path forward.
Delivering that package, was the key to that journey.
Eventually they would fall in love and live happily ever after, but it took a lot of time for her to learn to trust again and for him to open his heart to her after losing Kelly. Bettina added Chuck's name to the arched entry to her land.
They named their first child Wilson!

The Island is a metaphor for one's lowest point where no one can really help us but ourselves. For me it was alcoholism. Depression made me turn to alcohol and it quickly turned into an addiction. At one point I actually thought I was gonna die drinking myself to death. But you just gotta have that motivation to live and survive even if its just for 5 minutes. I remember I kept saying to myself "Ok 5 more minutes, I can do this. I wont kill or hurt myself for just 5 more minutes". I took baby steps to help myself, and fight my addiction until I was able to stand up again and keep living life. It was very difficult for me to leave my "Island" but I know I just had to do it, because like the message of the movie says, there is always better opportunities in the horizon

How could you leave out his monologue with Stan after he'd parted ways with Kelly? He lays it all out, his attempt at suicide, his powerlessness on the island. His gratitude over the smallest of things he can no longer take for granted. "I have ice in my glass." And his comittment to keep going, because as the tide brought him a sail, he hopes the tide of life will bring him something or someone new.
Also his guilt of how he couldn't give Stan the details of a doctor for his wife because he'd been stranded on the island. And that Stan's wife had passed away and he wasn't there for Stan when he needed him most.

The math does not speak well of Kelly. In four years, she went through mourning a guy she was all but engaged to, started dating again, found someone else who was husband material, got married, and got completely settled into a new life. The only way that works is if she mourned Chuck for a very, very short period of time and possibly already had something going with her future husband at the time of the crash.
