As a former fedex employee i can safely say what caused the crash was either a miss labeled hazmat or a box without an unsafe to fly sticker, sadly in my experience ive seen people carelessly miss placing even label hazmats, ect.

She invited him to join her in having a cool iced tea. Chuck explained to her all that had happened and how that package sustained his faith that he would return home from the island. This was better than any therapy he could ever have. She was kind and listened with her heart. It wasn't his intent to find love, but rather to find himself and a path forward. Delivering that package, was the key to that journey. Eventually they would fall in love and live happily ever after, but it took a lot of time for her to learn to trust again and for him to open his heart to her after losing Kelly. Bettina added Chuck's name to the arched entry to her land. They named their first child Wilson!

After he knocks the infected tooth out of his mouth and passes out....the water scene slowly fades in along with "4 years later", I remember audibly gasping outloud along with the majority of the audience in the theater including my wife. It's still one of my favorite movies and it blows my mind that the majority of the movie it was just Tom Hanks and fricken volleyball! Lol
For the entirety of the movie I kept hoping that they would show what is going on back at home with the friends looking for him, and waiting for music to play. It’s such a great and realistic movie.
Rest In Peace to Lari White. She was the actress who Tom Hanks delivered the package to and met at the crossroads at end of the movie. She was also a very talented country music singer who I saw at a show before her death from cancer a few years ago. Such a tremendous loss for everyone.
I don't really cry when watching or reading something but I remember that this movie made me tear up when I was a kid, it wasn't even the scene where Wilson drifted away that got me but the part where he left the island while crying, I don't remember why I teared up at that scene lol
The Island is a metaphor for one's lowest point where no one can really help us but ourselves. For me it was alcoholism. Depression made me turn to alcohol and it quickly turned into an addiction. At one point I actually thought I was gonna die drinking myself to death. But you just gotta have that motivation to live and survive even if its just for 5 minutes. I remember I kept saying to myself "Ok 5 more minutes, I can do this. I wont kill or hurt myself for just 5 more minutes". I took baby steps to help myself, and fight my addiction until I was able to stand up again and keep living life. It was very difficult for me to leave my "Island" but I know I just had to do it, because like the message of the movie says, there is always better opportunities in the horizon
note how the title of the movie is "cast away" and not "castaway". this might just go over many people's head but the title has a double meaning. not only is he a castaway while on the deserted island, but when he returns, he is "cast away" by those he once loved

Seems like typical management insensitivity to me … but may have been a dietitian’s recommendation due to Chuck’s seafood died of the last 4 years. Also I doubt whether Chuck ate many lobsters while on the island. These tend to be more deeper sea creatures.

This actually happened to me for six months on an island in the Indian ocean. At the time I'd never heard of this movie and when I got back everyone called me Tom hanks haha. My time wasnt as bad as his but it was rough!! Wonderful film! Thank you for making this video! Much respect

How could you leave out his monologue with Stan after he'd parted ways with Kelly? He lays it all out, his attempt at suicide, his powerlessness on the island. His gratitude over the smallest of things he can no longer take for granted. "I have ice in my glass." And his comittment to keep going, because as the tide brought him a sail, he hopes the tide of life will bring him something or someone new. Also his guilt of how he couldn't give Stan the details of a doctor for his wife because he'd been stranded on the island. And that Stan's wife had passed away and he wasn't there for Stan when he needed him most.
This is still one of my favorite movies ever. Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks really made a masterpiece that i love even more than Forest Gump And that score by Alan Silvestri...... incredible

i'm semi-supprised about one thing, that the life raft didn't have it emergency supplies and beacon. Most life rafts have an EPERB that broadcasts a distress signal when the raft is deployed.

I work in fedex air. Basically we inspect boxes to make sure nothing hazardous ends up on aircraft. Throughout training they reference cast away when talking about what they don't want to happen cause of us
The math does not speak well of Kelly. In four years, she went through mourning a guy she was all but engaged to, started dating again, found someone else who was husband material, got married, and got completely settled into a new life. The only way that works is if she mourned Chuck for a very, very short period of time and possibly already had something going with her future husband at the time of the crash.
In the director's cut DVD the commentary mentions that the real life wife was having an affair. Its a shame that there aren't special features like that in modern home releases. It even had the original short story that the movie was based on.

i'm semi-supprised about one thing, that the life raft didn't have it emergency supplies and beacon. Most life rafts have an EPERB that broadcasts a distress signal when the raft is deployed.
most heartbreaking part was when he gets home and finds the love of his life with a new guy.

I work in fedex air. Basically we inspect boxes to make sure nothing hazardous ends up on aircraft. Throughout training they reference cast away when talking about what they don't want to happen cause of us

The math does not speak well of Kelly. In four years, she went through mourning a guy she was all but engaged to, started dating again, found someone else who was husband material, got married, and got completely settled into a new life. The only way that works is if she mourned Chuck for a very, very short period of time and possibly already had something going with her future husband at the time of the crash.

In the director's cut DVD the commentary mentions that the real life wife was having an affair. Its a shame that there aren't special features like that in modern home releases. It even had the original short story that the movie was based on.
@@craigtheophilus2237 2 years seems like a short time for all that out together. “The living need for keep moving forward” as if there’s not 7-8 BILLION of us. Everyone grieves and mourns different, but I doubt you would for more than a week. Your wife deserves better.
