Yes that was a big mistake! But we also have to remember that the Grammy award first was introduced in 1958 after some of his most creative years. He still got 3 Grammys; 1 for the 67 album How great thou art, 1 for the 71 album He Touched Me and 1 for the live performance in 74 of the song How great thou art. But in 70 he also got a liftime achivement Grammy award at the young age at 36 , that was amazing in itself.
Alan Falk Thanks for that. Good information I didn't know. Something I was surprised to discover is that Elvis didn't make it overnight. It took a couple years of life on the road. I'd always thought he was an instant hit.
+Leon Davis Yes it took a little while, but from what I have read he was a big hit in the south pretty fast, however he needed a bigger record label to break through in the whole contry. That is why , when he went from SUN records to RCA he had an instant nr 1 hit (Heartbreak Hotel ) with the very first single he released there.
Alan Falk I learned that from an interview given by the drummer...forgot his name...not really up on it that much. But when Elvis started out, he didn't have a drummer...just the upright base. As I recall, they traveled all over. Up into New York and into the midwest. The breakthrough moment was during the first Sun session when Elvis cut loose with "That's Alright Mama" while he was fooling around during a break. The Colonel, like they say in the South "jumped on that like a chicken on a June bug".
+Leon Davis "Jumped on that like a chicken on a June bug" LOL I have never heard that expression before. The drummer was D.J.Fontana, he often said that when he was drumming for Elvis he immagined he was drumming for a stripper, meaning he had to underline Elvis' moves White his drumming. By the way, if you are interested, ,then there are quite a few really great documentaries about Elvis' carreer on RUclips. Just write "Elvis documentary " and then you will get around 20 different to chose among. I really like the one called "I sound like nobody" .
I remember as a 10 year old sitting up in the middle of the night with my late dad watching the Elvis Aloah from Hawaii concert that was beamed around the world. Something I'll never forget & I'm in my 60's now and still as big a fan as I was growing up in the 60's. Only one Elvis, often imitated but never equalled & never will be...
Elvis sings this song with a musical group The Mellowmen. The deep, bass voice heard vocalizing is Thurl Ravenscroft, and the original voice of Tony the Tiger, the singer behind “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Ginch.” He was also the voice of Kirby the vacuum in “The Brave Little Toaster” and did a bunch of other voices for Disney. You can see him in the far right in shots of Elvis and the Bible group on stage.
Elvis truly had an amazing voice. He actually died 2 years before I was born but my Mom and uncle introduced me to him as a kid and I have been listening to him probably 35 years now...
Tis Irish Bob saying hello The fact that Elvis still earns income and followers long after his passing speaks volumes. He was and will always be THE KING. Adored the world over, raw talent and range in song choices and performances. Elvis is still the sauve, smooth, class act singer.Often Imitated by many but there will always and only be one legend Mr Elvis Presley. Irish Bob looks forward to Heavens main stage to watch and enjoy the many great talents already there to welcome us home when our day comes along. Looking forward to the New, eternal, greatest times ahead in the afterlife A big fan of yer werk my son. Enjoy yer weekend fellow fans of great entertainers now and forever. Irish Bob🤗😇😎🇮🇪🇨🇵🍀☘️🦾🩺🥂
Fine Gospel singer, ballad singer and country singer. But NOT an original by any means and definitely not the only entertainer who could sing in various genres.
@@erinmarie99 No, not at all. I simply don't put Elvis Presley on an unrealistic pedestal with rose colored lenses, while being able to appreciate his talent with a much more BALANCED view. He was good but in reality there were far too many other ARTISTS who actually wrote, sung, composed and contributed to producing their own music who had VERY exceptional voices. Presley was a good singer but I've heard better and I will just leave it there. We can agree to disagree. Stay safe 🙏.
The best entertainer & singer today & FOREVER! ELVIS could sing anything with his amazing, incredible ,the only one VOICE, & GOSPEL is his favourite music.Love this song
Elvis could sing anything...and make it his!! I have been to Graceland & will never forget it!! Still feel his presence ❤ Very spiritual and. God gave him his tremendous talent 🎼 He is still loved around the world and he will never be forgotten....🙏

Nobody could sing Gospel like Elvis could. He's probably in Heaven now singing songs of Great Praise. Praise the Lord! I believe Elvis was meant to be a Gospel singer all along.
Virginia Rubino This isn't real gospel it's whitewashed. I'll tell you who can sing gospel better, all the black musicians he stole his music and style from Big mama Thornton,Big bill broonzy, little Richard, chuck berry,Fat Domino, He was the king of thieves chuck berry was the true king of Rock and roll.
Bethlehem Kassaye no way Elvis never stole nothing he was a loving kind humble man who opened the doors to blacks a let them be themselves a chase their dreams Elvis believed that there was room enough for everyone Elvis loved black people he had them as cooks band singers a grew up w black s all around him he loved all colors music a intrruments a he loved god to
Sandra Miller Your joking right. His signature hit Hound Dog, was first recorded by Big mama thornton (A black woman) who got no credit for her song for decades. Presley’s version of the song Trouble, sounds a lot like Muddy Waters Hootchie Coochie Man. There's a difference between being influenced by someone and straight up stealing their work.
This was amazing and his twitching and blinking reminds me a lot of his 50s performances. He was so beautiful especially here, late 60s is prime Elvis!
Wow! Wow! Elvis Aaron Presley está belíssimo! Que encanto! Uma doçura! Belíssima canção! Palmas! Palmas! Palmas para o Elvis! I Love Elvis!! 💓💓💓💓💓💕💕💕💕💕👏👏👏👏
Elvis served his country US Army, did movies, sang Rock, Country, and Gospel, no one has achieved what Elvis did, Looks, talent, humble and loved the Lord through his Gospel music, made an atheist A Believer. Glory to God Amen
As a young man, he loved Gospel music, especially the local celebrities the Blackwood Brothers. He couldn't afford to get in to their concerts, so bass singer JD Sumner would let him sneak in the back door. 15 years later, he went from teen idol to wannabe movie star (never made it) to Vegas superstar, and needed a Gospel quartet to back him up now that the Imperials left. So who you gonna call? JD Sumner, who was now managing and singing with The Stamps. Watch his Hawaii concert, and that's JD Sumner singing with Elvis Presley.
I believe this is the happiest that I saw him on screen since Viva Las Vegas. You can clearly see that this is the music he LOVED to do. So much passion and soul in this. 1:38 is especially endearing.
As Quentin Tarrantino wrote for “True Romance” “a man can think Elvis is beautiful and not be gay”. He was a masterpiece!!!
Agreed and it's true
How true!
Until he started to get chunky
@@TheRTrizzy so what. At least he had a good prime. Some people never do.
@Jenny Rose yea but he ate himself tp death because of the enormous wealth that he didnt know what to do with
Critics gave him a hard time about his movies. We didn't care we LOVED this man.
Most talented ever.
I mean the movies were sht. Blame the studios for that move.
The movies weren’t great, but Elvis was great in them.
Should release this clip again and let the millenniums see what a great singer sounds like.

Elvis Presley was extremely handsome. His hair was fabulous!

You can see Elvis's love of gospel in this number. I've got a feeling he just kept going when the director tried to cut.
Also he always wanted part of a quartert so this must have been his dream scene
That man was born with rhythm flowing through his veins! 💖
Yep 😁

Imagine; the only Grammy Elvis ever won was for his album of Gospel songs. I'm sure he's making God smile at this very moment.
