I noticed immediately when trying this that it was beautifully balanced, immediate confidence in the bike, the weight disappears the second you get it rolling. Suspension felt superb, brakes too , I liked this bike so much that I had to order one, I had no choice really

I rode a 1200gsa a couple of weeks ago and was blown away! Such a plush ride, more than enough power, practicality.....I’ll happily have one in the garage!
I wonder how many sportsbike riders have uttered the words "I wouldn't be seen dead on a GS/A" and ended up with one in their garage?! Quite a few I expect.
Great review Herr Fagan, living the dream, 44 Teeth is the best out there on the electric interwebtube. I've had loads of bikes in my time, all brilliant in their own way, but the GS with its ESA and witchcrafty suspension is fantabulous. I am like Al, a few years ago I wouldn't of been seen dead on one, I would even say I would of been upset if I found one. But then I took a test ride, that all changed, its brilliant at everything it is designed to do.
...you certainly make the point of this model brilliantly so that I'm left simply must having one as soon as possible! Thanks so much for all you guys do!
Nice review! I like your take on the differences between the most recent 1200 GSA and the new 1250. I had the same impression as you: The new one is simply stronger across the rpm range, and I believe the transmission (and/or the algorithms controlling it) has been reworked as well. For instance, the 5-6 shift is all-but imperceptible. I picked up an HP example the first day it was on sale here (California) and am selling my “old” 2017. As you said, there is certainly nothing wrong with the 1200, but the 1250 just has that something extra. Thanks for the cool video!
:-) Thank you! I was wondering when you chaps were going to knock out a video on the new GSA. I just ordered one! Moving back from GS to GSA. Can't wait!
Had an SV650 a couple years back, used haines braided brake lines and some sintered pads, bled it in overnight with a band tied around the front brake, the sheer bite of the brakes afterwards was amazing, got a bmw f800r with brembos and even they don't feel as good as those haines lines did on my sv650
10 more days and I get my 1250 gsa ice gray whit gold rims...I feel like virgin. After 20 yoars track days and sbk motors time is come for airbus. Great review
I still occasionally visit the local bike meet venue at Box Hill, Surrey. 30 years on from my first visit the place is almost exclusively full of old men on BMW's. Myself included. Very few Fireblades and R1's etc
I totally agree with the GS time. Alas, funding was not there, so I settled for a Triumph from'16. Sweet, sweet bike, love it to bits. Everything is right with the world.
Demo'd a new R1250GS on the same day that I rode a Ducati Monster 1200, Hypermotard 950, and BMW R nineT. From the moment I pulled out of the dealership, I could tell something special was underneath me. Quite honestly, I couldn't believe how good the bike felt. I've been in love with the Hypermotard for a long while, but the R1250GS is so damn good, I'm struggling to see why I need two bikes in my garage. I can just buy a new 1250GS and call it a day. I'm going to have to put it on a scale before I'll believe the curb weight.
I had a first model r1200gs Adventure. I toured, commuted, went off road and even did one track day. My misses really liked it, and we had some good holidays on it. But the reliability was poor, and plenty of others had a worse time of it than me. I'd be reluctant to buy another, but they are good bikes in most situations. The engine wasn't enough for me, but I believe the water cooled models are much improved.
Interesting that BMW have reverted to Brembo, after the issue with Hayes and the US Stop Sale enforcement. Dealer offered me an unregistered Hayes equipped machine last week - when I mentioned about the calipers, he stated the only reason that they'd gone back to Brembo was to save production costs !
It’s the same old story if you are a GS fan it’s a fantastic bike if you’re not it’s over size over priced and not popular, I have a GSA Rallye and covered 12.000 miles in its first year in 14 countries and absolutely love it. My wife did the same on her Tiger 800 it’s all about personal choice. I will keep my present bike for another year then it will be a 1250 GSA
Nice video like always thanks!! , I’ve got the HP adventure on order 🤪😍 and yep I’m coming of ey Sportsbike.. Tuono v4 Factory if I had the money I had them both in my garage, but unfortunately I don’t. All the best lads keep m coming 🏁💨🍀 regards Dennis
Yeah, I tried this about two weeks ago, long story short: Got a 2-hour ride booked next Wednesday, and if the dealer gives me a good price on my ccurrent bike and I still love the bike after that testride I will order this beast. Haven't tried the regular gs though I was amazed at how light and nimble it is for such a big bike, I thought this must be the regular gs cause of how light it feels but no it was the gs a :D The 30L tank will be nice whenever we are allowed to go on vacation again, suspension and brakes are superb, engine is smooth as hell, and it was just a joy to ride
it really comes down to what you need when buying a bike like this. If you want something that really moves your soul, I don't think a GS is the way to go, however if you want something just to move your body and do it very well and in loads of comfort then the GS takes a lot of beating. For the record I own a 2018 GS Rallye, and I don't love it like I did my tuono! This still doesn't mean it's not a good bike though.
I think you've hit the nail on the head... I kept hold of a sportsbike while having my first couple of GS's... had a Mille R and a 954 Blade with full Maxton suspension... sublime that blade was . But in the end .. I couldn't be bothered... sold up and bought an enduro bike instead... love the GS and won't be without it ... love the way it wafts me along on big trips , fully loaded and in total comfort... full aka system on and the quickshifter popping away .... I love it 🤘🏻
A no-brainer upgrade - in the same way spending £10k flying first from London to New York on an A380 is a no-brainer - If you can afford it and still have money to eat afterwards
Also love the GSA over the GS, and now with that bit of extra power and torque.... just nice! For me it would be the exclusive version. Thanks for the great video/review!
Ive got a GS , my last bike was an RC8R.......I love my GS so much, it is just so much pure fun to ride, AND it demolishes B roads likeva group B rally car on two wheels AND nobody passed me all week over the mountain at the TT..........
I used to ride around the IOM on TT week muttering, “Get out of the way you bastard box head, on your big bastard boxy bastard bike”. I pick mine up next month 😂
Hayes is the provider of the brakes Mr Fagan, they make them for fork lifts and other stuff too I've heard. I suspect the mothership swapped to them because Brembro was not offering them much of a price break.
I've owned 6 Fireblades in the last 16 years and loved them all, never thought I would own a GS/GSA. Now after 3 years on a GSA I am waiting delivery of my new 1250 GSA Rallye It's the best bike I've ever owned, if you havn't tried one I suggest you do, think you will be surprised Has changed my whole outlook on riding a bike, now I look forward to a couple of long trips a year Used to tour on a Blade but fuck me that was hard work
I would absolutely love one! My main concern is as bikes get more and more fancy technology, there's just more that can go wrong/fail and the cost of rectifying it on a GS will be horrendous!
You have to bare in mind though that all the tech that is now filtering onto bikes .... has been used on cars for years ... so unreliability will be rare... like the shiftcam on these new GS's and S1000rr ... it's been used on their cars for some time
1st week of March and hello baby, she arrives, all 1250 of her, bumped into Chris picking up his Green R1200GSA on Saturday at Bahnstormer god he was smitten
Nice one Al. Love my new R1250GS Adv. HP. A worthy improvement on the 1200. BTW the brakes are still made by a Brembo owned company, but they don't own their own foundry, which may be why they're not badged as Brembo's, because they're not controlling the e2e manufacturing... possibly? I like them. And the GS is still the best tall-rounder ever!
Like you said: there's a stage in life where you have to own a GSA, and I'm not there yet. I am afraid it's so good, there won't be anything else after it. So, in the meantime, I am going to continue "experimenting" a little with different kinds of bikes, all of them considerably cheaper than a GSA.
I rode a friend's R1200GS and was really impressed. Then I looked into common spare parts and was shocked. Over $100 for a front brake lever! $230 for a rear brake pedal! Insane. I'll stick with Honda. The Africa Twin, for example, OEM front brake lever can be had for under $30, and the rear brake pedal is under $70. I would love to own an R1250GS... if it was made by Honda.
Do they still install quickshifter from WW2 self-propelled small armored people carrier ? I used to have “16 model for 1,5 seasons and always was angry with 1 to 2 upshifts and stupid its sound from 4-5k rpm and up
I'll give you a review of the africa twin. Light, thin seat, off road focus... Not even close to the GSA for distance touring.. Unless you enjoy a sore arse
Great review as always and love the suit, have the same one. But how did you get to review the GS before the Baron, that caught me by surprise as he is the GS man so i thought
@@alexsanchezch The man competed in at least one British Superbike race, and was road test editor for Fast Bike for a decade. He knows how to ride a bike.
Could be he is the greatest driver on Earth, but to me it looked like a bit of reckless driving; crossing the line, squaring the turns off, invading the opposite lane...looked like lazy driving. Great review though, and great motorbike
Years ago (way way before 1000RR) my friends on Ducati, Triumph and Honda sports bikes were saying the exact same thing... predicting that they'd eventually buy a BMW..
Hi, this might sound dumb but would it be unpractical to own a GSA when 80% of your travels are on road?

I just recently moved to the UK and one of the things I've found it weird is that I rarely see one on the road or even in Central London (where it's supposed to be their natural habitat). Also, the second hand market isn't as big as I expected and pricing isn't that low either. I also didn't know that GS riders where the bane of motorcyclists and yes, that "Polite" vest is ridiculous and also would be forbidden in Portugal given it's similarities with actual police vests. That's a trend that needs to stop. Either people are buying them and keeping them in the garage and only taking them out for tours, or I'm just living in the wrong place. Either way, I still want one. Any one from 2014 onward will do just fine.
Probably because they are almost uninsurable in London. The fastest thing about this bike is the time it takes to get nicked from the side of the road.

@@WildlifeMoto Really? I'd think that thieves would go more for sport bikes or mopeds, not a "dad jeans" bike.
the bike retails for 17,550 pounds even if the thieves were to sell it in bits they'd still get thousands for it. or they could just probably export it to another country whole and probably get atleast 8000 for it. so even the "dad" bike or w/e quotation you wanna put there is still worth stealing for a thief.
Like your review and comments below. I have only ever test ridden a GSA for an hour so can't really challenge the comments on 'must buy one', etc. would love to ride for a couple of days to et a really feel for it. What about the KTM 1290 Super Adventure?
I bought a GS Rallye last year. Great bike, but I’m still not ready for it. Traded for a S1000R. I’ve been told I’m going backwards in the progression of age and bike choice.
Love your style review of the GSA. Would the low suspension version compromise the feel of the bike, as Im not sure I would be confident on the standard height bike. Could do with being a bit longer in the leg!
Chris Hill got the GSA low and love it. It’s about as tall as a standard height GS. I’ve read the low GSA handles better than the regular GSA because is the shorter suspension. Can’t say myself because the regular one is way to tall for me. I’ve ridden a low and Rallye GS and I’d pick the GSA low for the best overall package. Get the Rallye GS it you want a lighter, slimmer bike.
You and Chris are some lucky guys. Testing awesome bikes and getting all the lady's! Lol. My only gripe with BMW is that they don't seem to have anything but GS/GSA on the brain. You really have no choices between $7k and $14k. KTM and Triumph have more to choose from in those categories.
@Baron I checked them out because I had my eye on a used S1000R so for kicks I checked the new prices. Nothing below $16k stock in my area, the 750 starts at $14,500 and the 850, it would make sense just to buy a leftover GS for what they wanted. I know BMW is a premium bike and they sell pretty good so why change. I'd just like to see them come down a bit. Triumph is also hard for me to overlook, especially leftovers and used. They are built pretty solid so I don't worry about buying a 2015 Speed triple let's say. Going to look at a red one with ABS and low miles tomorrow. Seller is asking $6500.
Could you lovely chaps do a video comparing the 1250GS to the KTM 1290 Adventure R? I rode one of those last year and it was my first time on an adventure bike and I loved it!

Yep, I’ve caved in. 2016 R1 sold for a 1250 GSA. Point to point on British B roads I honestly believe the R1 would lose. This bike is effortless.
Yep. Try convincing the fully-faired brigade though!
I fear it won’t happen any time soon. That BMW image of middle aged men with matching fabric suits will take a while to shift.

Why does it have that Beak ? Does it have a purpose? Honda Africa Twin for the Win -125-lbs less then this
😍 hey great review, appreciate the take on the new brakes... can we have the Barons opinion as well please
Years ago (way way before 1000RR) my friends on Ducati, Triumph and Honda sports bikes were saying the exact same thing... predicting that they'd eventually buy a BMW..
Thats a first. Never seen an RT wheelie like that before !
Ivan Jetá They’ll take pretty much anything, even one of these ugly lumps.
the bike retails for 17,550 pounds even if the thieves were to sell it in bits they'd still get thousands for it. or they could just probably export it to another country whole and probably get atleast 8000 for it. so even the "dad" bike or w/e quotation you wanna put there is still worth stealing for a thief.
I see few in summer time commuting to work all fully loaded with full luggage. I always wonder what they have in luggage....
Just traded in my 2017 KTM Super Adventure for a new GS Adventure. Hope It was the right choice, I'll find out next week.
OK Fagen, a GS or a Super Duke GT for commuting and scratching? Make my choice for me, please
What is your average mpg on the bike
You mentioned the cubic increase, what about the pubic increase though?
Why did they change the tyres? the A41's would have been fine for what looked like a mild dirt road
When do you feel the weight? The minute you really turn it up, thats when. Ridden GS on and off road, but skinny bikes for me.....
Could you lovely chaps do a video comparing the 1250GS to the KTM 1290 Adventure R? I rode one of those last year and it was my first time on an adventure bike and I loved it!
