Prague was my first time traveling alone. I stayed for 6 days and planned to see almost everything, from the Jewish town, the castle and cathedrals, to the parks, museums and restaurants, and even just walking through the streets where people live. I have never seen such a beautiful elegant city and the Bohemian culture is both intriguing and fascinating. I'm looking forward to coming back and exploring it more.
Excellent
I'll be visiting Prague for 6 days this week and I am really excited about that.
Thanks, I'll have to Czech it out.
I'll get my coat.
+Conway79 lol
cute!! lol
Someone just had to do it.... haha
Badum tish
Thank you Marc, for visiting our beautiful Prague and making this video :)
Warhorse Studios one question: do Czech people speak German? Because this summer I go to Czech
Some do. Not everyone, but quite often you will find people who speak German, especially in Prague, yes.
Lots of good whores there.
wtf bude čeština do KC? :D
VaMa emm nechtěl by jsi Danovi nebo někomu napsat radši na mail nebo fb a neptat se ho v komentáři pod videem o turismu?
As a tour guide in Prague, I think these are all great tips :) I'll add on : Don't be afraid to leave the Old Town area and explore other parts of the city! So many tourists just stick to the central area but the whole city has so much offer.
Yes, I'm just back from Prague and for example, we really enjoyed walking on the Vyšehrad hill and the way there next to the river.
I fell in love with prague right away when i came out of the metro the first night: streets made of old stones; gas public street lights, medieval houses, Skoda trams, castle over the hill... beautiful.
TheLanciaFan Sounds like you time traveled, lol
@@TruePT 😂
About the tipping, it is absolutely ok, if you don't tip at all. Usually we just round the number up and thats all. (for example you would pay 85 crown you would make it 90), that's how we do that in Czech republic, we are too lazy to count some procentage. And by the way, nice video.
1. Never use ATMs in Prague (otherwise they'll rip you off). 2.Don't carry your wallet in back pocket. It seems that pickpocketing is the national sport there. 3. Don't buy anything in Staromestske namesti (Old Town Square) and Prazsky hrad (Prague castle) areas, unless you are really rich. 4. Don't use Taxis if it's not absolutely necessary. Prague taxi drivers will try to cheat every foreginer. The final remark: Prague is believed to be relatively cheap; however, the Czech capital city is much more expensive than any city in neighbouring Poland or Slovakia.
When I first came to Prague, the city brought me to tears as it is so beautiful. Run, don't wait to Prague.
Don't take a taxi... you will get ripped off 90% of the time
Lesson 1: don't let them rip you off
Don't take the street taxi, except if you are Czech.
I love the fact that u love Prague just as much as me. I've already been there 5 times, and I'll come back again, again and again just as you do.
+Renzo Castellano and again and again and again:)
I lived in the Czech Republic for over 4 years (3 of them in Prague) and whenever I see your videos, Wolter, I feel nostalgic. Prague is a true gem of a place and I miss it dearly. Because Prague is a primate city, most tourists don't venture outside of the capital (with probably some exceptions going to Cesky Krumlov), which is a shame. There's so many great places around the republic. Brno, Olomouc, Kutna Hora, Telč, Adršpach, Karlovy Vary, Mělník, Vrchlabi, and the medieval areas of Nové Město nad Metují are all well worth a visit.
Just got back from three weeks in Prague and Czech Republic...absolutely fantastic. Went into the city many times and day tripped to many surrounding towns while there. Hit most all the high spots and not expensive....less than 1/2 US price for dinners.
When you come to Prague, DONT take a taxi, use uber and public transport and DONT eat and drink on the old town square, the restaurants are a rip off
... or at least be aware you will pay extra for the view. It's not so different to other places, Brussels' Grand'Place is going to be more expensive than neighbouring streets, too, as will be an apéritif on the Champs Elysées in Paris or a coffee on Venice's Piazza San Marco. I live in Brussels, and I can assure you, I don't go for a Friday Night drink to the Grand'Place. I will, however, try at least once a year to just sit there and soak in the atmosphere with a warm or cold drink. And I will spend a leasurely hour at Caffè Florian on the Piazza San Marco, paying €6 for a coffee, if I can afford it and if I feel like it. I didn't do it when I was on a tight student budget, though, as a coffee there could pay me a pizza elsewhere.
I took a cab to the airport from the city center and it was under 15€, not that bad of a ripoff
Glad to hear :) There are of course taxi drivers with good intentions but they are unfortunately overshadowed by shady taxi drivers who see tourists as easy victims. So I would recommend using public transport or uber just to be safe, or you could also ask your hotel to call you a verified taxi. Hope you had a nice stay in Prague:)
Dank Boi
: very silly advice-99.9% of prague taxi drivers are honest. Just do not take those that hang around main sights with cars parked.- those are typically 'thieves'
But generally, there is no need to use taxis with great and efficient public transport system in Prague.
"I took a cab to the airport from the city center and it was under 15€, not that bad of a ripoff"
...that is regular price locals would pay as well - not sure why everybody is expecting prague taxis should be like 0.0000001EUR/km and any price they pay being 'ripoff':):(
Loved Prague! Architectural masterpiece! Totally wonderful sightseeing!
I have a definite "do" for Prague though! DO use local trams for transportation, its awesome! especially if you want to go up to the castle from the city centre!
mortalitasi thankyou i didn't realise that and been at least three times 🙄
take a tram 23 and sit at the very back, you'll love it!
And don't get caught without a ticket. They're cheap anyway.
I want to travel there for 6 days. How much Will The tram cost us for 6 Day/ 2 adults. Thank you
www.dpp.cz/en/fares-in-prague/
thank you for all the good things you said about my country. i haven't been there
my self for over a decade and when i finally visited CZ and Prague this year i was amazed how much everything improved!
✓
You guys really, genuinely seem to enjoy CZ and Prague, which makes me so happy! I don't see many travellers here on youtube even mentioning our small country, let alone visiting so often :) Merry Christmas!
Greetings from Prag. One DON'T is DO not change money on the street ONLY in the Bank. Every bank will do that without any problems but a lot of Exchange places rip your ass off
yes! and don't take the "auto conversion" that ATMs offer. Just take the money out in CZ not via dollars. Such a rip off
Well, this "auto conversion" is a problem all over Europe. You MUST choose between charging your account with the account's currency, getting local money converted by an obscure company, or you debit your account with the amount in foreign currency directly. Do ever take the second choice!!!
Hello...just to ask if it's better to exchange from Prague Bank the Kuwait Dinar I have to bring with me or I would exchange it in Euro here in Kuwait coz Czech coruna exchange sometimes not available here.
I miss Prague. Awesome city.
Prague was my absolute favorite stop when I went around the EU. Insanely gorgeous city with a great culture and nightlife.
drinking game: take a shot every time he says prague
Brittish I don’t think you want to be charged with murder.
You must be a great pal to hang out with 😂
Normie
I've bad 20 xhots and in fucded
Oscar crazy crazy crazy
I was in Prague just last week with my school class and I just loved it there! I want to come back one day!
Also if you gonna go to Prague, be carefull at those places where you can exchange money. Because they should give you +/- 27Kč (Czech crown) for 1 Euro, but there are places (expecially in Prague) where they give like 20Kč or even less and they don't commit any crime. Right now it is kinda big deal here and laws will change so it is illegal, but who knows when...
Not anymore, the exchange rate changed. Just make sure to check the exchange rate online and compare it to the exchange offices. Currently it's about 26 czk for 1 euro.
Kilum, that's not entirely true.. there are still more and more places popping up just to scan tourists.. they go as far as giving you up to 45% Commission fee
Anybody who is not suspicious of an alleged 45% exchange "fee" is either the most gullible sucker on earth or just plain DUMB!
Now it has changed 😁
Unfortunately it didn't change there are still places that exchange for 1euro to 20ck just came back from Prague
And when you seek out the *_Dancing House_* @6:27, don't miss the *_National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror_* which is only two blocks to the east. Many visitors have never even heard of this museum. Another fantastic video, Mark. Love Prague!
Thanks Tosh!
Tosh T interesting
parenthesis to topic "Heroes od the Heydrich Terror"
I can recommand you this movie.
www.imdb.com/title/tt4190530/
It's about biggest successful assassination of the Nazi leader during whole WW2. (The operation was led by Czechoslovaks. )
I'm reading (listening to) the novel about his assassination. Definitely will check that out.
The museum is in the church where Gabčík and Kubiš were eventually cornered and killed by germans. You can still see the bullet holes on the outside of the building around basement windows.
Old, beautiful Europe...
It so nice to see someone not from Czech republic enjoying themselves in our country! Thank you for visiting our wonderful Prague!
I am Czech and live in Prague and this is very accurate ! Never take taxis and if you want to take pictures move to side and do not randomly stop all of a sudden to take it, making people behind you have to walk around you or almost bump into you!!!
Thank you for giving a honest review. I am from Prague and couldn't say it better. It is indeed HEART OF EUROPE!
10 more DONT's of Prague:
1) Don't use Taxis, they see just bag of gold. Buy tickets for mass transportation, they are all valid for bus, tram and metro.
2) Don't drink more than you are used to.
Enough of drunks demaging historical statues, getting robbed or in trouble in here already.
3) Don't stay in center, travel to outskirts (via masstrans.) for cheaper prices and the real look of the Prague.
4) Don't be a loudmouth in public transportation, you can talk, but if whole wagon can hear you, just shut up.
5) Don't try to ask old people for help. 50s and up are not great english speakers, try people in their 20s.
6) Don't be a sheep. Standing in the middle of the street/way will grant you a wish you haven't wishrd for.
7) Don't litter. Simple, aint it?
8) Don't fund beggars, just don't.
9) Don't underestimate the traffic. There is a whole load of idiots, behind the wheel in here.
10) Don't be a dick in general.
Do older people speak german sometimes?
@@Dario31d mostly russian (during communist period it was most learned second lenguage)
I was there in 2018 never had anything but good experience with cab drivers, polite and helpful in every way. Taxi unbelievably cheap and honest took at least 6. One was when I got lost it was a busy friday evening and hard to get a taxi when finally one was free charged me next to nothing for a 1l2hr. drive to hotel felt obligated to give him a good tip. In heavy traffic I thought I'd be getting back to hotel forever instead taxis have a special lane just for them sped all the way cost me $3.00 all the while I saw the meter running. Meters are always visible to passengers. From airport to hotel ride about 45 min. cost me $20 a beautiful car too. In Japan the same ride cost me $100 from airport to destination. Never had a bad experience.
As a local person I have to say thank you! Especially for that part with eastern Europe, haha :D couple of things I would add up - don't use the taxi, use Uber or Bolt if you have to (although I would recommend public transport cause it is cheap, clean and very convenient). Use only ATMs of the reputable banks, or exchange money in the bank, never go to these "Exchange" places, cause they usually scam you (solid exchange rate should be around 25, 26CZK=1EUR). And try to look out for some less-touristy sights and places, we have plenty of them here, it's not just the castle and the bridge! If you want some inspirations, I highly recommend to watch some videos from the channel Honest guide, these guys are really great! Enjoy Prague!
I love your videos Wolter. Very good work. Always so informative.
Also, Prague is also on the top of my favorite European locations. Absolutely amazing city.
Am re-watching all of these videos because I'm visiting Prague in just a few weeks. It looks wonderful and I can't wait!
Absolutely love Prague! One of the most beautiful and fun places I've been to in Europe. Enjoy!
+Nick Barnets I agree Nick. It really is great
Thank you Wolter for another super video.I,as a half Czech, half German have "wieder eine Gänsehaut".Děkuji :) Have a nice day.
I was there a few weeks ago. People are very nice. Restaurant service was good. Food was excellent. It's a beautiful place to visit.
The last part when you said "don´t call the Czech republic an Eastern Europe country" is so true :D Also, don´t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. People usually know at least a little bit of English. Learn some czech words, it´s funny but also nice when somebody tries to speak czech. All you need -> Jedno pivo, prosím = One beer, please; Mockrát děkuji = Thank you very much :D
It is always a great pleasure and honor to host such an amazing tourists as Wolt is. I love my city and I do appreciate I am not the only one. And about the "Eastern Europe" crap, yes, he is absolutely right :)
I've been to Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, and Czech Republic. Prague is definitely in top three cities that I've visited
I lived in Prague for a year as a exchange student, and these do's and don'ts are actually pretty accurate, especially the last one!
Tourists show up at 9 am on the dot. I woke up early to see the architecture and all the details on the each building. I recommend it, especially for Charles bridge and old town square.
Average spend on food:
Breakfast: €3-4
Lunch: €10
Nice dinner: €20
I guess 10% is normal tip
The restaurant prices have gone up but still reasonable mainly because of wages. First time went in 1992 only three years after the fall of iron curtain it was dirt cheap paid less for beer than bottled water I think that still stands.
Great video! Love this city and wish more people knew how great it was. Lived in Prague for six months now and can't say enough good stuff about it! Really beautiful, easy to get around, great food, great prices and a fantastic location if you want to travel in more of Europe. As he said, it's right in the centre of Europe and there are some very good (and cheap) companies that will take you to other countries. I especially recommend looking at trains (like those by regiojet) to surrounding European countries, as the prices are very good. My last piece of advice is that while Charles Bridge is beautiful, you will do much better to go to the bridge either side of it. You will get great views of the bridge without nearly as many tourists and will certainly see more of the bridge than if you were on it (too many tourists to see much).
Don't forget to try the duck while your're there. Believe me you'll feel like you're in paradise, especially when you combine it with the beer.
Don't say we sound like Russians :D there are several historical reasons why we don't like that comparison
Great job man, you got almost everything covered well, was real pleasure to watch your videos! 😊
Mala Strana District is my favorite. Much older than the Old City on the other side of the Charle's Bridge. :-)
Remember that when you drink beer in the true Czech place, they come with the new one at once if you don't say STOP.
"Bramboraky" - potato pancakes are my favorites.
dont miss the opportunity just to go exploring! as soon as you leave the busy main streets, there are hundreds of old little shops, and just so much to discover. if you love shopping for antiques and oddities, you can spend days on that alone
Another tip - drive into the countryside - See Czesky Krumlov and the Bone Church - it's also easy to drive into Moravia
Avoid the old town after dark it's full of idiots and besters. Also, prague was badly damaged during WW2 one was the American air force mistaking it for dresden even though it's 100 miles apart. The other damage was the prague uprising in 1945 and this damaged a lot of the old town square. Good vid marc you pointed out the best tips and dangers.
The best city I've been to, by far the best. Most beautiful, astonishing european architecture... There is some kind of feeling that you sense only in Prague and nowhere else, you sense it's power, rich culture and history. Been there like 7,8 times, every time is like different town and of course, different experience. Good experience only, honestly.
Prague is awe inspiring, the only issue I had was with those Euronet ATM's and currency exchange in general being a rip off. There are bound to be better deals if you look carefully.
Perfect timing for this video!
I'm going to Prague in two days :)
Lucky! I hope you have a great time and a safe trip.
Enjoy! And watch Honest Guide on RUclips, they do great videos about this city.
have a great trip!
Neil Sahay Enjoy your trip 😊
How was it Neil? :)
I adore Prague, I can't wait to go back some day. Portugal is next on the list!!
As a Czech person I gotta say you've done a phenomenal job describing the "don'ts". We are really easy going people and it's not hard to start a good conversation - as long as you're not a rude drunk or calling us Eastern Europeans 😂 Our history has some bad times with West and East, but we simply hate being compared to Russians. There's just a lot of injustice from the past. Glad you enjoy our country, though! Have you ever visited other sights and places in Czech? Prague is the tip of the iceberg 🤗
Well said!!!
This year's Christmas Markets in Prague are just awesome!
It looks nice, but it is crazy overpriced compared to what you pay for. For example, you pay 3 times more for a trash wine in a tent than for a normal wine in a restaurant one street away. If you want to go to those countries especially for a christmas market, i would say Bratislava, Budapest, Krakow is a way better choice. Having said that, during a normal season, praha is the way to go.
It was avesome like every year, but my uni has buildings around Old towns squaire and it was impossible to not to be late for lessons in half an hour 😃
Christmas Markets in Budapest because winter is the best season to soak in the Baths. Rudacs is my favourite.
Don't just visit Prague
There are loads of places outside Prague that are beautiful too.
Try not to get ripped off, yep. I am Czech and the touristy part of Prague really is full of overpriced stuff. You can watch Honest Guide here, a Czech youtuber makes videos about how not to get ripped of in Prague (taxis, exchangeplaces, overpriced food etc.)
Also I hate that you are absolutely right about the services. I am currently working at the airport and so many colleagues are so rude/ unfriendly/ unhelpful to the tourists that I feel ashamed.
You are right about the pickpockets, city centre and the trams, especially the ones going to the Prague Castle.
You do have the right info :)
You are a awesome guy.
If you are deciding to visit Prague for a vacation I really recommend also trying to visit Brno if you got the time, it has a beautiful center like Prague but less crouded and way more outside statues and monuments
I fell in love with this city as well ❤️❤️😍
I was once in Prag for a shot trip. The City is so beautiful.
We received absolutely shocking bad service in Vytopna railway restaurant on the top floor in the mall.
They send the drinks you order to your table on a little train.
I ordered freshly squeezed orange juice and my husband ordered coke. We were super impressed and ordered some more drinks. The barman who was preparing the drinks came over to our table and said in anger that if we wanted juice then we should leave and go to the juice bar across the street.......
actually in Czech Republic we are not that heavy on tips, yes, a lot of the times you tim, or just leave change even if its like 1%, but sometimes you dont have to tip, its not like in the US where the tip is majority of waiters wage, here, they are getting paid normally and the tip often dont even go to the person that was serving you. no one will look at you badly when you dont tip for a coffee and cake, dont worry. and if you want to tip, better ask if they can keep it or the owner of the restaurant will take it from them :)
I love prague and we go there every year because my granny lives there and it is almost a second home to me and always get a hotel out of the city because the metro is fantastic
Great vid :) You should definitely consider a collab with Janek Rubes (Honest Guide).
likespike definitely!!!
Fagot Reich not sure about that.
likespike yes he’s very good too
nah
@Fagot Reich I guess you must know a lot about the Czech Republic lol.
Fantastic review of my city, even the bad stuff. I 100% agree with it all.
Most beautiful city in the WORLD! Czech /Slovak people are so very nice. Try the Kolache...Holushki, etc. Great food. Beautiful architecture. Relatively safe. Clean. Nice people.
Thnx! As a Czech, one more recomendation: dont take a Taxi on the street, only trough an app where you know your trip price in advance! Just do not take a taxi directly off a street!
Amazing city! A total contrast to the quality of its population.
what the heck, can you elaborate on that?
Very nice Prag .Wolters your videos are great, short good resum to get an idea of the visit. I like videos.Thank your Wolters , increadable all you do everywhere ,countries, cities, and helpfull informations about the don ts ,the cost, weather.....
About the tipping. It's not about 10 % but mostly it's about to "round" the final cost. So for example if your dinner bill is 178 Kč, you could say you want to pay 180, 190 or even 200. Or hand over 200 Kč bill and say "that's fine."
Other than that, excellent video. Although I also expect you would mention the exchange booths :-) Thank you. :-)
If I had to choose between a week in Paris or a week in Prague. Which one would you choose?
DON'T forget to watch the Honest Guide before you come to Prague: ruclips.net/p/PLM9_KZNJw8qGuEHJf4lcfIiGwpiRtcKAm
Prague is amazing I want to go back so much
Do take a walking tour! Amazingly knowledgeable guides.
Da Booser I saw in another video that the walking tours are free. Is that true? Really no fee and just a tip in the end?
What a superb video and you really know how to hold an audience!
especially the drunk English tourists :-P
no problems with drunk Irish :P
No Italian men usually approach women talkiing and in a nice way...we don't need to get shit faced
3 of them were my roommates in a hostel. But they were nice and we ended up playing cards.
@Club Soda my sister visited Rome, Italy when she was 18 years old and she said that most of the men there were creepy and even forcefull towards women ☹️ she was harrased and groped plenty of times (even from her private parts 😬) The mildest thing she experienced was cat calling. Many of the men there actually called to her like someone would call to their cats 🙄 she liked Rome otherwise but the way men acted there left a bad taste in her mouth 😥 (sorry for my English it isn't my mother language)
British people are always annoying, even if they are not drunk.
I've been in so many camping and hotels in my life and it's always the British who are loud at night and break stuff.
My next destination 😍
maria fernanda castillo respect your beautiful whte God given royal bloodlines
I love Prague! I've been there 4 times
Prague is my most favorite city in the whole world ❤️
Thanks a lot for the video
Ameerah AlGohary I went there this summer and fell in love. I wanna go back
Me too :D
They say Prague is the city of magic and wonders, shrouded in all kinds of legends and mysteries. There's also few ghost stories here and stories of a portal to different places. 😊
*I can't believe, that i actually find someone who says, that Czech rep. is in Central Europe :O
Because it is???
Protože pro skoro všechny zápaďáky jsme východní Evropa.
viz.ruclips.net/video/KR-7VOB8hLs/видео.html
As for mentality, they’re closer to Germany or Austria. Czech Republic has a great history. Eastern Europe is different!
Fagot Reich cheeki breeki? What the fuck are you actually serious? I've been to czech rep a couple times and its not even close. And yes, their history and culture is more similar to austria and germany than to eastern europe. I see that You are the cringy one here lol
@Fagot Reich For hundreds of years Bohemia was under the rule of western monarchies but apparently 40 years of communism negates it. Would you call Austria eastern country also?
Do visit other quarters of Prague. The center is mostly for tourists. If you go a few tram stops (or walk for 15 minutes) in any direction you'll see quarters with nice historical buildings and it'll be a lot more local (and cheaper). (for example: Vinohrady, Letná, Žižkov, Smíchov, Dejvice...)
Nice video. I don't quite agree with the comparison of Czech service to the German one, as in my experience it's quite similar. But you are probably right that on average the mood of the people in service is a bit grumpy. I think it's getting better though. :)
I love prague this city is so beautiful! thanks woltersworld
This brings back memories of my last holiday abroad.
Just been to Prague the other week and it is a beautiful city, the food is AMAZING :D
I may or may not have imbibed 2 or 3 or 4 absinthe drinks at that Absintherie at 2:37. Love this video!
Definitely agree on the service. We would sometimes wait 20-30 minutes with empty drinks to get refills or get the check to pay. They never really smiled either. I still thought the city was lovely especially the St. Charles Bridge leading to St.Vitus Cathedral. Best tip you mentioned: get away from the crowds and explore away from the squares and bridge. We had fun exploring the small streets and walkways away from the tourist areas.
@Sara01977 The Charles Bridge is not Saint because the name refers to Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, who hasn't been even beatified.
Aktivist1000 sorry, typo. Thanks!
I do not require waiters to smile. You must be American.
Try Spirytus 95 %. Almost pure alcohol.
Thank you Mark we are here now, we have found the service very good! Yes, the tourist are everywhere we have tried to stay off the main paths! Beautiful city! Thanks for the tips love your videos! Cara & John
My favorite city! And that comes from a Dutch person living in New Zealand
Walter I want to TY for your advices. Thanks to you and the other fellows, Maybe I had one of my best times in Europe. And yes, don't forget the Chezc Beer. The best dark beer ever I had. Thanks again.!!!
Really...beautiful city Praha...been there in october....best food in Europe...I guess you should have mentioned about not getting exchange from euro to kroner in old town square bcoz the rate there is astronomical... you can get better rates in less busy areas
Yes, Walter forgot to mention: Don't trust money changers and taxi drivers too much. Most of them won't try to rip you off, but it's better to count the costs in advance.
For exchange go to Kaprova 13 or Jindrisska street
It's better to avoid exchanging money and pay with your debit card. If you really need to, go to a regular bank, they usually offer more favourable rates
I love Prague. One of my favourite European cities.
Was hoping you’d post this video, thanks!!!
+Andrea Orbegozo you are very welcome :)
The Czech Republic is my favorite country.. so far😃
prague is amazing. of course one of my europe trip best part! beautiful city, nice food, the big ass castle is wonderful, wish I could spend more then 2 days there...
I've been in Prague a few times and everything you said is very true👍
Thanks mate - that advice sounds great and really appreciate your enthusiasm.
We have also a lot of vietnamese restaurants, some of them pretty good! I honestly believe, that pho will become a czech dish in a few decades!
I got one more: Don't forget to visit other parts of Prague, than the most touristic ones. Prague 1, is where most tourists go, while Prague 2, 3, 8 and other parts, are amazing - and more authentic at this point.
Prague looks pretty good it is about 4th on the list of places away from the British Isles I would like to visit.
