I really did not know the 6700K is that bad. I take it you did not overclock it. It is a K skew and a Z motherboard, so maybe you should. Would really like to see what difference it makes. Nice deal on the 3800X and memory btw. Getting the wraith prism with it is also a big bonus: connected to USB they really look good. Treat the 3800X to a 6700XT: that will work a treat. Cheers for the vid.
Yeah I gave up messing with the 6700K, tried some troubleshooting but at that price point I was ready to just move on. I'll let my son have the 6700K to practice building with. If I can snag a 6700XT for a good price I'm open to it, hoping to keep my GPU budget to 175 tops, to fit within my overall sales price target.
Phew! I was worried for a minute there 😂 This is a good example of going with what you can afford at the time, then saving up for something better. That GPU is living the life now!
@@CasualTechReview Definitely. Imagine someone scrolling seeing all the “pretty” PCs then just the black one LOL. Either RGB, or white case would be in order.
Great video, love watching real world flipping experiences. For the 3800x I think the 6650xt will give the best price to performance however for flipping I think you should use the 2070 super. You'll also be able to put in the listing that's it's faster than a 4060 (outside ray tracing). I was still shocked at the 6700k's performance. I think the 1660 super and 1070 are on par with each other so it would have been good to see you swap parts to see if the GPU may have been the issue. Overclocking the 6700k may also have helped. Running a CPU benchmark such as cinebench would have shown whether you unfortunately have a dud 6700k. However I can appreciate you just wanted to see the back of it after the dreadful challenge performance.
@rathstar haha yeah that pretty much sums it up. I'm going to give the 6700k and motherboard to my son to practice building with, so it won't go to waste. Both the 1660 and 1070 work great on their own, I know neither of one them is the problem.
You should do the superposition and heaven benchmarks with the 1660 super in there instead of the 1070. I bet they would be pretty close. That 6700k was the real culprit. edit - didn't see someone already mentioned it!
i still maintain there was something fundamentally wrong with the cpu/mobo/bios settings, should not be at room temp with 50% util, that thing was getting no power.
I think there may have been something else at play with the previous pairing. The 6700k is definitely dated but I have sold many systems using a 4th/6th gen i7 with a 1660 super and scored significantly higher on 1080p low in Heaven, like well over 100 FPS more. Im not sure what might be causing it, possibly something in the BIOS with voltages or frequency? Maybe something to look into for another video!
Just wondering, what sort of results would you get with the 1660 Super instead of the 1070? If it's acceptable then you could try pairing the 1070 and the i-7 ?

Nothing wrong with making a mistake, it's what you do afterwards that counts and good job in fixing it.
@@Adam-Mei totally agree, thanks!

@RobertFixit yeah we'll see what happens. Not getting much traction on marketplaces so I may have to RGB it if it doesn't sell in a few weeks.

Yep, and RGB is a 15 dollar fix. Yay Thermalright!
That pc will breathe better then the specs you brought for the challange. W video.
@@blindtechh thanks, it was definitely lacking in performance. I wouldn't have been comfortable selling it at any price.

@@KaleiMeyers much appreciated, thanks for watching!
5700xt would be a great pairing for that 3800x
@johnathonready9347 yeah that's a good one to consider. If I could find one around 100 or 120 it'd be a no brainer!
Prop money! That's a new one!
@AlexHusTech yeah, I didn't see that one coming. You never know I guess.

@HetZieltje I don't disagree, the performance didn't make sense. I just ran out of energy to troubleshoot it. Much happier with the 12100f.
Yay from potato to hero!
Yes, 72 dollars went a long way!

@kobeskye6366 totally agree, something wasn't right. I tinkered around a bit but ultimately decided a modest cost upgrade was worth it.

@@1Fracino the 1070 is single digit percentage points better than the 1660 Super, just wanted to use it for this build.
