My tip is it to play to your specialists strengths and plan to counter your opponents specialist. I didn't do this when I started and lost many games

I think Cobrak mentioned it already, MORE CHAFF!! The more chaff and chaff diversity, the better. Typically I use crawlers in the beginning more in my backline and throughout the match i add Fangs to the front and then spec them with shields (if there is no fire on the board).
My second piece of advice from me would be to learn which units counter each other. This will help drive the decision making for what units to go with. There are Mechabellum Unit Matrices online to help with that, just google for them.
For example, the unit card on round 2 had only two valid choices in my option. First choice: Phoenix to counter sledgehammers and arclights. Second choice: Mustang to build a generic board and have good chaff clear or anti-air potential (based on tech selection). The Wraith IMO is only good when you are attacking aggro or defending against aggro, even then it's only in specific cases. Using the wraith is standard positioning typically doesn't work and gets quickly countered by a phoenix or a marksman.
My third tip is to not be afraid to sell units and switch into a different unit. Sometimes you placed a unit wrong or the unit just gets countered to fast, sell it, buy it again and place it somewhere else or buy a different unit to counter your enemy. Leaving a unit to just die and give your enemy free XP, will never work.

XP farming was definitely a mistake I made earlier on. If one of your units is dying for the cost of nothing in return then you should consider selling it. All that unit is doing is using your units to level up.

@@walksinthedarknessdoes this include chaff? Because I feel like they are all just doing that when I could have spent it on arclightsvor something instead early and not gotten it

@@deathsavearcade3951 chaff are designed to die but if they're dying very quickly then they're not really doing their job. There have been a couple of replays I've seen of a vulcan turning up and just toasting a pack of crawlers who are adding nothing to a fight.

Some sub-1000 MMR tips: It's okay to put down a high level unit card, play a round and let your opponent invest in a counter and then sell it next round.
Find a way to apply EMP, my favorite is marksmen: it counters "raid boss" units by slowing them and stealing their tech.
Rapid fire on high-level marksmen is a great choice: it increases their effective DPS because they overkill by 1/2 as much - it's essentially doubling your marksmen.
Don't overinvest in an army with a single counter, for instance an army of chaff and mustangs. Just a bit of fire will counter your whole army in one round.
It's great to misdirect your enemy. My favorite strategy right now is to set up an aggressive ball strategy in the first two rounds and then spend the next few rounds building a balanced marksmen and chaff army behind it. My opponent finally counters the balls and I promptly sell them, spending money on a counter for their counter.

One thing to mention: you are wrong about chosing Mechanical Rage for tanks because of the speed; speed is "nothing", range is dominating Mechabellum; every unit you don't want to use as chaff needs range (unfortunately)
BUT Mechanical Rage is THE tech for tanks, because it improves the fire rate dramatically; tanks become beasts afterwards.

I assume what the player was thinking with all the tanks is one of the things I'm trying in my gameplay now (about 10 play hours so far) is that you can replace the first line of chaff with tanky units that hit for some good numbers. Giving your second line of chaff some time to be doing damage and not just being obliterated. In this case, the missle battery guys didn't let that work because of the amount of aoe going on. I'll put things like Rinos or the steel balls with armor and Damage share on that front line instead of chaff often. Could be the wrong way but right now it feels good :)

The one thing that helped me change from losing every game is having tons of chaff. Normally you'd think not building early game units dont matter esp when so many units one shot them but they make a ton of difference both as distraction and as secondary damage.
