I love the Sabertooth. Mainly because they look like a mammoth tank from command and conquer.. but hey.. not all units have to be there for function alone haha
They have a role: Their double shot costs only 150 bumping up their already high single target dps to 3529 from 2000. So they only cost 200 and with a stinky 150bugs-upgrade they give you the same dps as a basic fortress. The main problem in the game is of course not damaging HP, but killing chaff, which is why they are not played that often.
absorption module on a melting point seems like it would be insanely effective. But would also love to see an army with tech-ed up Typhoons :)
Absorption module can be really good on typhoons, super consistent dps and a decent health pool means if get leveled drop it can become a monster
The sabretooth needs an attack speed buff to stand out. The fact that their is only 1 of them really limits their usefulness. It's a discount scorpion with different tech options and worse attack.
That was my first impression aswell, not enough damage to match a scorpion and not enough presence to match sledge hammers in terms of a meat shield
I agree sabertooths are not very useful, but when they are useful they're pretty effective. They one shot most mid tier units and I think even one shot level 2 sledge's at level 1 if I remember right and really most of the time you're bringing them for anti-missile or to sell since they're super expensive. Their fire rate is so slow and they're so expensive that they just kinda become a liability. They do soak a decent amount of damage at least.
I kind of think they might need a buff or maybe they're designed for a future patch where they might release another unit that they directly counter and thus they become relevant. Most times I'm selling them faster than a rhino though and I'm sadly always selling my rhinos these days despite it being one of my favorite units.
Typhoons with missiles on the other hand are super fun. I haven't been able to use them with the other upgrades other than shields yet, but missiles are so fun on them.
With regen they are also pretty good at tanking. Had a lot of games where entire enemy army would focus 1 undying saber, while being destroyed by damage-dealing units. Also, if leveled, they can one-shot melting points.
Sabertooth are good on tanking aoe-dmg and dealing single target dmg and bring a working missile defence, unlike the mustangs. It dont prevent missle to 100% but you get a good reduction even vs overlords. Or fortress missles if you want to use wasp or phönix without a wraith tanking for them.
You guys just don't understand how to use the sabertooth. Its not a meme. Its a meme breaker. Use it to throw a wrench in your opponent's plans. Use it as brick to grab and hold attention of anti chaff units to get a second wave of chaff in. Use it to shut out stormcallers. Use it to hold mustangs for your late arriving wasps to sweep up. Use it to hold wasps for your mustangs to sweep. Its good against vulcans. Its a threat to fortresses and meltingpoints at half the cost. With a level advantage + Range Enhancment and Double Shot it can one-shot a meltingpoint. And unit reinforcement turns can drop it as high as level 9. It works well with mixed armies. It just fires too slowly to work well as a meme carry.
It's hard to believe these things have two cannons.

@@TheHuffur Impeccable logic, I wish I thought of that. I guess that also means somewhere in a future patch we might get a tank with zero cannons and half the reload time

Super new to the game. With as many Sledgehammer why do you never take the linked health or repair upgrades?
also had a game where i used them against stormcallers and overlords, unfortunately it was a bit too much for them to handle lol
The sabertooth is a lovely grindy tank of a unit. Want to rush steel balls at it? It can 1 shot them, get wrecked nerd. Level them up? Mechanical division? Double shot, obliterated. Want to chew the formation apart with stormcallers? Missile interceptor, hard countered. Try to go heavy air with overlords? Missile interceptor, i have run out of comments.
It can be beaten pretty easily, of course, it, and the other 2 rare units, aren't meant to be truly game defining, just nice additions to competent formations. But it's very well designed for a very sturdy role.
Does splash damage from the double shot nullify mech division? If so that is amazing
@@Mortis_XII sorta. If the first shot kills 1 steel ball then all the crawlers should spawn in the splash radius for the second shot. But if the first shot kills multiple steel balls then some of the crawlers will be outside the splash radius. And if the second shot kills steel balls with then there crawlers just spawn in regardless. It can still be a lot of the chaff generation nullified though, and if you get a couple of shots like that off it's still pretty good value.
@26:40, doesnt absorption module on a melting point amazing? It has continuous damage until it switches targets and thus makes it tanky in 1v1 or 1v few situations.
Sabertooth has good single target damage, but they lack range. Range upgrade makes sabertooth a lot more usable imo.
