This is a magnificent performance by the singers, by the guitarist, and especially by the recording engineer. I don't think I've ever heard a better live recording.

Like most F&F fans I assume, I’ve watched this video dozens of times and keep coming back to it. The obvious is the great harmonies by Tim, Maggie, and Sammie. The less obvious is Toby’s picking of the background music. If you really concentrate on his playing and try to tune out the vocals you will hear clean perfect picking of every note. Hat’s off Toby, great job.
Ditto. The scene, in which people seem to be in attendance, but not really listening to the music, is - not surprising - but disappointing to me. How many times do you see a competent group like this nailing the covers. And they don't seem to be appreciating it. Its like a background to their own "thing", whatever that is, that they are doing. Such quality demands attentiveness, and I'm not seeing that this is happening with that crowd. Most all groups cannot ascend to this version of proficiency, and yet, these people seem to have no concept, which I find strange. They should be crowding the edges of the performance area in appreciation. To me? This is an easy thing to do, it is just part of what a group should be - but we all know that groups are NOT this way - this proficiency and quality does not exist among them, but they treat these guys as if they were just any group. SIGH.
Listening to Maggie’s part, she’s singing a complicated harmony part. Switching from an upper to a lower register and just nailing it. This is a great band. Just incredible talent.

The most abhorent experience of live music performance is audience indifference, especially when the band knocks the ball out of the park. These beautiful people have long demonstrated that F&F has a relentless commitment to exceeding original performances in their covers (which they do in the first place to incite audience interest in their music and talent). Their miraculous cover of Suite Judy Blues Eyes, which stands in my mind as a masterpiece, is a monument to a helluva lot of practice and sacrifice that is hidden from the audience and stage. Having played, I know that drill. My fear is that cynicism and indiffernece in our smartphone totality today will wither beautiful flowers like Foxes and Friends from ever blooming. Let's hope not. Our souls will suffer for it.
Tom, I too find it painful when an audience is indifferent to the talent of folk such as this. As a singer/musician myself I am both humbled and inspired by the talent of F & F. I am grateful they have cast their pearls where perhaps I may cherish a few.
If he's the dude playing the acoustic, then yup! Being a player myself, I listen for the little things and he was pretty much spot on including the little trills...

I have been performing live for the past 35 years, all over the U.S. and Canada (where I'm from originally). I can honestly say that I have never heard anything as beautiful and incredible as your group. I just discovered you a few days ago, after doing some music surfing on RUclips and I'm completely addicted to listening to every one of your songs. I love your story, I love your versions of the cover songs that you do so perfectly and I plan to turn a lot of people onto Foxes and Fossils! You may not ever even see this, but I felt I needed to express my admiration and appreciation for the work each of you puts into your group and I hope to get to hear your beautiful harmonies for years to come! Truthfully, EVERY SINGLE TIME I listen, again, to Foxes & Fossils sing their rendition of "Helplessly Hoping" ~ I get the chills. And, I'm reminded of the joy that REALLY GIFTED musicians like these PEOPLE feel, and bring, to those listening. Across the globe, especially now, all of us should better appreciate the beauty and joy that music brings to our lives. We NEED more of this, more music and joy in our lives; not less. Music in life, especially with voices like these, is meant to be celebrated. It is time we begin again to embrace and celebrate this beautiful aspect of our lives.
I believe this three-part harmony epitomises the essesence of F&F ... I cannot tire of listening to this particular rendition of Helplessly Hoping ... even the other members of the band applauded ... BRILLIANT!
Wenn ein Song mit solch einer klaren musikalischen / stimmlichen Darbietung einem die Tränen in die Augen führt, dann sagt genau dieser Song alles aus! WUNDERBAR!!!!
Great sound, great Harmonies. Acoustic guitarist seemed to be right on with his finger style and notes. The harmonies when one is singing the the word 2 both are singing harmony and 3 together the 3rd comes in and they are 4 ,and drop out at each other. Harmonies were tight and backed out right when he said each other. Just great harmonies. Perfect. I really loved this version, best I've heard so far. And there were 2 foxes with the fossils. I'm a fossil and miss playing acoustic and singing with various friends back when I was in my teens and early 20's. I switched to playing classical for awhile, toured 13 countries in Europe. But also was playing rock ,blues and metal. I've started going back to acoustic the past few years. But since moving to a small country town I haven't found anyone playing acoustic. They all want to shred. Keep up the music it's enjoyable and always keep it as part if your life. If it wasn't for music and playing, I wouldn't be here today. Guitar has helped me through so many trials and tribulations. I lost interest for awhile due to certain circumstances and now trying to find my way back. I know it will help but depression can grab your heart away at times. It would be nice to have someone to play and sing songs with, even if it was just adlibing which I Do alot of. Peace and keep music by your side never let it wonder away. If it does grab a close friend or fellow musician to help find your way back to the spark.
I thought the the harmonies were some of the best ive ever heard . Thanks for pointing that out , Im not a musician , but was so curious why it sounded so wonderful . It was those Harmonies , so smooth and soft and flow .
Art Donovan No. Audiences typically don’t have the musical background to appreciate the time, effort, sacrifice, and dedication required to produce a finished work like this.
@ Jaco: And Yes. And you're correct. :) The audience never appreciates the monumental talent and life's sacrifice necessary to achieve this level of artistry.
OMG!! You idiots, it's a taco joint! Not a concert hall. Besides, what do you care what the audience is doing? Does it get in your way of listening? God! Go solve some real problems out there before you bitch about this kind of thing!
Mr Purcell: Life has so many twists and turns beyond our control. While I like others thank you for your attention to unequaled excellent execution, hard work, and skills of all those that are part of your musical team, I hope that each and every one of you realize that whatever Life brings you all, you have created many moments of beauty and enjoyment to literally thousands of people. Very few accomplish something on this scale in Life and contributions to the many folks who have been blessed to listen to your performances.
@@achiappanza I agree. The original poster asked why they aren't treated like super stars. Part of the reason is that they don't do original material. And often times people who create brilliant original material have a hard time even making a decent living. Gillian Welch and Townes Van Zandt would be 2 examples.
This band is really good... intonation perfect. I really wonder if there was kind of post record edit (pitch)? It sounds too perfect to me ... Keep going folks!
... happy not to be the only one to catch that :-) Nervertheless raw material has to be quite in shape making auto-pitch so hard to discover. I would really like to listen to the raw recording...
When my son was young he had to do an English assignment showing samples of alliteration and Helplessly Hoping was one he used. I used to play it all the time. I love this song. Thank you.
Can’t believe the harmony. Kudos to both Maggie and Sammy. They blend their voices so well. Tim is very strong, as well. A special kudo to Sammy as her ability to harmonize in all their songs is outstanding!
This is what voices sound like from the same DNA. Think of The Everly Brothers, The Carpenters, The Alman Brothers, The Bee Gees, The Cowsills, etc. This is how to sing harmony! Brave!
Oh wow! Oh wow! This inter generational group is at the very core of what humanity can be. In these Covid lockout in Spain you’ve made me the happiest with this song!
I have always forgotten to compliment Tim on all this. Love his grin at the end because he knows how good that came out. I assume he is the leader and he does not jump out as hey look at me, rather he assembles everyone together and makes a masterpiece. Then sits back and enjoys everyone shining. Music, thank you CS&N. But how it all got performed here is all on Tim with his expert guiding of the group. Of course he has musicians behind him who are world class. It's all music for the love of it. Then to technically put all that together and mix it so there is no way to think it was done outside in a parking lot. Pure perfection by all.
As a dad, I can only imagine how sweet it was to create beautiful music with your girls. Having said that, I have no idea whatsoever why you weren't "discovered". As a fan of this song, and of CSNY, this is as good of a cover as I have ever heard. I guess it was meant to be what it was, and for your musical endeavour to take its proper place in your lives, but I have to tell you that your music is a gift to us all.
and the girl to his left is his daughter. the other talent left to manage another singer. can't really believe this group couldn't "make it", but maybe they got what they wanted out of music.

Thank you , Lyn , for the link to the F&F playlist . I really enjoyed listening to their cover of CSN's Suite : Judy Blue Eyes . I have never heard any group cover that song as well as F&F did . Sammie and Maggie's harmonies really keep that oldie fresh and up-to-date .
Serendipity struck me too. And I didn't deserve it. But we get enough bad luck in our lives - don't be embarrassed about making best of the good luck. I love the "foxes - and the " fossils ".
As much as I loved discovering this band on youtube, I was horrified to find the girls had gone off to college, and the band was hibernating. Worst part - they often played a few miles from my house! Had I known earlier, I would have been full of tacos every weekend!

Our souls will suffer for it.
tom wray Awesomely stated and I agree!
I know. Bizarre, right? Sheesh, this is beautiful
Tom, I too find it painful when an audience is indifferent to the talent of folk such as this. As a singer/musician myself I am both humbled and inspired by the talent of F & F. I am grateful they have cast their pearls where perhaps I may cherish a few.
Well, whatever the audiences may have lacked, my friends, comments on RUclips have made up for in spades. Beautiful and thoughtful comment, Mr. Wray!
Well spoken.
I'm sorry... that is perfect. Beyond good, beyond super, it is perfect.
Those girls have a harmonic blend on par with Lennon/McCartney and Simon and Garfunkel.
They are VERY good, but let's not get carried away. You are comparing them to 2 of the greatest pairs ever.
That´s right Will
W-
I’d rather listen to M & S any day than those other folks mentioned 😆- seriously though..
Let’s hear it for Toby. The guy is flawless!
If he's the dude playing the acoustic, then yup! Being a player myself, I listen for the little things and he was pretty much spot on including the little trills...
@@Snarkapotamus: Toby definitely is the guy playing the acoustic here. He's also the guy playing guitars of various kinds (including slide) on most of the 70 or so videos on this channel. And he's awesome. Check 'em out.

Thanks for being you!
The Band members do read comments and tell us they do intend to continue for years to come.

Well said !
Actually pains me that nobody seems to be paying any attention to this cover masterpiece
But we get to enjoy it repeatedly... they didn't realize they were listening to greatness !
Awesome cover. Love this song.
I’m stuck in a Foxes and Fossils loop. I hope people realize how good this is.
I sure do. I was a musician, singer/songwriter, composer and I'm seriously impressed!
Omg!
No words!
Absolutely beautiful, no just the talent but your honesty in telling the story. Something big record has forgotten how to do.
Thank you F&F
I keep coming back to this cover!

This just gets. Better with age.
Its sublime. Best cover Iv ever heard.
2 yrs ago...huh... try another....LEXINGTON LAB BAND.....THAT SMELL
Same!!
I believe this three-part harmony epitomises the essesence of F&F ... I cannot tire of listening to this particular rendition of Helplessly Hoping ... even the other members of the band applauded ... BRILLIANT!
You will simply not find a better live version of this beautiful song on the internet. That includes by CSN!
Their harmonies gave me goose bumps. Amazing job
Four years since I first discovered this video (during peak Covid) it still remains the high watermark for live performances on youtube.
I could listen to Toby play that guitar all day long. Man he is good. I just can't get enough of listening to their music.
Toby is the unsung hero of F&F!
Harmonies are sublime but kudos to the guitar playing. Perfect.
Lead guitarist is Toby Ruckert and he's consistently superb. Check 'em all out: foxesandfossils.com/
2nd comment, this is just pure magic. Nobody nails the harmonies on this song like they do. It was so good, even Scott is clapping at the end!
Wenn ein Song mit solch einer klaren musikalischen / stimmlichen Darbietung einem die Tränen in die Augen führt, dann sagt genau dieser Song alles aus! WUNDERBAR!!!!
When a song brings tears to your eyes with such a clear musical/vocal delivery, then this very song says it all! MARVELOUS!!!!
Ah, such tender, delicate, sweet perfect harmony! Such a pleasure to hear, and see (if I can keep the tears out of my eyes).
Tim - "That really wasn't half bad"
Understatement of the century.
Far and above my favorite song by F&F.
Did the audience realize that they were witness to an absolutely MIRACULOUS musical performance?
Art Donovan No. Audiences typically don’t have the musical background to appreciate the time, effort, sacrifice, and dedication required to produce a finished work like this.
@@jaco7675 You stated it perfectly, Jaco. Stay healthy!
It's like they are so clueless! They probably didn't pay much of a cover or tip, if any. Pretend you don' notice how good they are! :-/
Very Well said... Very profound.
@@tomsimpson-cc4075 Thanks very much ... meant every undeniable word!
Thank you Jim for capturing what all of us think about Tim and the excellent group
@@rapidcabin Pert dang good, ain't they? Rare that I miss a day that I don't pull them up for a listen ...
Thankyou for your words...perfectly put
I just can't believe how incredibly talented these people are and why are they not absolute super stars
They should be Superstar's! So Very Talented!
They are an excellent cover band, but do they have original material equal to the music they cover?
@@jweyek Right... what's that line from Treme that Steve Earle delivers? "The world is full of players. It's the writers that are the rare find."
@@achiappanza I agree. The original poster asked why they aren't treated like super stars. Part of the reason is that they don't do original material. And often times people who create brilliant original material have a hard time even making a decent living. Gillian Welch and Townes Van Zandt would be 2 examples.
The timing, the music, the harmonies all to perfection. The best. I’m blown away every time I listen to Foxes and Fossils.
Most beautiful version ever!
This is so ridiculously good that I can't think of a comment would sum it up, meaningfully.
"Pitch Perfect" ... all perfect including guitar work. CSN would be proud and give you all a nod and a smile.
This band is really good... intonation perfect. I really wonder if there was kind of post record edit (pitch)? It sounds too perfect to me ...
Keep going folks!
W. F. Deffinitely post processed.
I can definitely hear some pitch correction at work here. Still sounds great though!
... happy not to be the only one to catch that :-) Nervertheless raw material has to be quite in shape making auto-pitch so hard to discover. I would really like to listen to the raw recording...
Agreed, their other video (landslide) has a rather obvious pitch correct at 00:55. Still good though.
Sammy is a rock.
This is what voices sound like from the same DNA. Think of The Everly Brothers, The Carpenters, The Alman Brothers, The Bee Gees, The Cowsills, etc. This is how to sing harmony! Brave!
One of the best covers I've heard yet 👏👏
Oh wow! Oh wow! This inter generational group is at the very core of what humanity can be. In these Covid lockout in Spain you’ve made me the happiest with this song!
They should receive a Grammy for this Epic Performance!!! None Better!! Thanks F&F,,Your the Best!!
Like said previously, “like finding a Rembrandt at a yard sale”. Even better, eh?
great way to put it, they are fantastic
I have always forgotten to compliment Tim on all this. Love his grin at the end because he knows how good that came out. I assume he is the leader and he does not jump out as hey look at me, rather he assembles everyone together and makes a masterpiece. Then sits back and enjoys everyone shining. Music, thank you CS&N. But how it all got performed here is all on Tim with his expert guiding of the group. Of course he has musicians behind him who are world class. It's all music for the love of it. Then to technically put all that together and mix it so there is no way to think it was done outside in a parking lot. Pure perfection by all.
Tim is the genius behind all this. And his talent is managing to surround himself himself with people who are even better than he is. :)
@@curtpowell3795 Not that being a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist means Tim is conceivably shabby :D
Edward Hart 😀👍🏼
In Tim's bio it identified him as a High School quarterback. That must have been the beginning of grooming his leadership instincts.
Yup. Dad knows alright! 😃
I agree. They sure did gift us with their music.
Beautiful
listen to their Suite: judy blue eyes. mind blowing.
and the girl to his left is his daughter. the other talent left to manage another singer. can't really believe this group couldn't "make it", but maybe they got what they wanted out of music.
@@urbanothepopeofdeath lol, it's my favorite. Sends chills down my spine.
Aug. '22 and I'm still loving this
A guitar and three voices in perfect harmony. None better anywhere.
This might be my 50th time watching and listening to this, and it never fails to give me the chills... especially the Angelic harmonizing on the chorus. ❤️
You can tell Tim knows how great that was. Amazing!
you guys and young ladies...have some serious talent. I hope you never stop keeping some of the good music from my younger years alive. What a joy to hear someone take on CSNY and out do them at their own game. Outstanding performance in all respects.
Three beautiful voices blending together... in perfect... harmony! It just doesn't get any better or beautiful than those three voices right there on that patio! That's was the best cover of that song ... ever! 👍👍 two thumbs up 😎🤟
Thank you, RUclips! You put this wonderful group on my list. It will never leave it!!

Lyn Wessel Thank you, Lyn!
Loved this group of amazingly talented folks ever since I first heard them
I have literally watched this clip over 500 times. Absolutely flawless
I stumbled across F&F about six months ago. What a beautiful job of this song. CSN&Y would be proud.
Every cover they do is AT LEAST as good as the original; a bunch of them are better than the originals, this one included. They just sound so incredible together. Thanks, F&F, I can't tell you how much I enjoy listening to you.
So true, me too, Ive fallen in love with them, Cant let go and Dont worry baby are brilliant too
I’m speechless. Stephen would be impressed.
I’m waiting for the day when I’ll stop loving this version from y’all…I’ll let you know.
I like how Scott immediately breaks into applause. He would know.
Good eye...I noticed that too. Even he was impressed!
I listen to this song and others every night just before I go to sleep.
the best lullaby for the child inside you. good night dave.
i think it's personally so hard to do a good cover of this song and yall.......LORDY those harmonies are TIGHT
It was a stroke of serendipity which helped me to find the Foxes and Fossils on RUclips !
In the era of the pandemic , it is a blessing to listen to their performances
so that I can bask in the peace and the joy of their music .
I dig down-to-earth people who keep things real ... like the Foxes and Fossils do .
I hope to hear more . Thank you from Ontario , Canada . Miles .
Click on the round picture above for their complete list of 65+ great cover songs if you haven't been there already.
This is the song that I stumbled on 3 years ago and I became helplessly hooked on F&F ever since
Those three voices together are just magical
I am glad I found them. Its hard to stop
These “guys” don’t need fame, they have each other, music, friendship, love, satisfaction. Just check out the comments, I have never seen so much pleasure given by any other RUclips channel/group, they have love in bucketloads. Love from UK, every morning I listen, so much pleasure, thanks so much xx
You get it.
Love this version!! RIP David, you are loved.
Like others I am constantly drawn back to the perfection of this performance. Thank you F&F for all your wonderful postings on RUclips
Tim says, "That really wasn't half bad"? They knew they killed it! The harmonies and guitar work were PERFECT!
Even Crosby Stills & Nash could not do this better.... Perfect harmony
So true
IMO they never have done it better than this, at least not that I've heard.
the original recording is magic. every cover is second place at best.
@@gourmetcaveman The original is from the recording studio after how much mixing and how many takes, this is live, one take no room for error.
@@tomjes5602 To give an idea of just how many takes, retakes, rewrites etc. CSN did for that album, here is just a couple of the studio outtakes for this same song! The version on the album is considerably different from these outtakes. ruclips.net/video/gttC636fObU/видео.html
I now see the common denominator....they really shine every time they play CSN songs...wonderful to listen to ! Thanks all !
