This is just what my experiences have been when it comes to guitars and parts. Every time i tried to get off cheap
or save money it was a mistake! It would cause more headaches and issues than the little bit of money it saved me.
So these days i buy what is reputed to be high quality parts regardless of cost.

Buying cheap parts is risky, heck even some name brand parts get iffy.
Fender sold Highway One style bass tuners in at least 2 varieties, one made in South Korea by Han Chang and another set made in China with no makers mark. The Han Chang ones are solid and smooth, the Chinese ones work but have a rough feel when turned. To be fair, the Chinese ones were replacements aimed at Squiers but the packaging was fender with no mention of Squier.
Many name brand parts including Grover are made by either Han Chang, Ping or JinHo.
The safe bets are Gotoh, Schaller, Sperzel and Hipshot USA that make their own products. I don't bother with the licensed Hipshot stuff.
