Both sound amazing. I sold my 335 however because of the size of the guitar. I find the LP much more comfortable as I mainly play sitting down

The short tenon on the neck/body joint is in fact a disadvantage in terms of build quality because Gibson had problems with neck movement and even breakage at the joint with short tenons and is why they moved to the longer tenon joint! Same applies to Epiphone SGs. I'm very surprised the Epiphone SG standard has a short tenon neck joint.

It’s really difficult to screw up making a pickup, and you have to screw up much more than this to make any difference to sound whatsoever.

Gibson family ever since has had plenty Of quality assurance failures dating back To the early 80's. Very expensive guitars One would expect to play flawless right From the time of purchase. Rather than Splashing on ridiculous paint jobs or selling them based then based on some pretty underhanded bit of marketing . Fix the problem in the first place. Maybe There's some microscopic bacteria that's Making the wood unstable?? Or the company is cutting corners again. But there prices alone , are gonna have , once Upon a time. Brand loyal.customers . Switching to other brands. That offer the same tonal qualities at a fraction of the price. Especially, considering, when most if not all of there guitars are assembled in China , with. Differences in hardware and finishes.

It’s comical how people put down “Chibsons” for infringement but let other builders who also infringe have a pass just because they’re an American owned corporation.

Ever notice how since Gibson hired Tom Murphy they simply do not make seconds anymore? And since Mark A. went to work for them they have been selling guitars at record prices .. That is why they hired Mark to help them sell guitars at high prices and he is doing his job very well .. He is an outstanding guitarist and an even better salesman .. He made a lot of friends working for Norman Harris and is very knowledgeable about expensive vintage guitars .. Gibson produced a Custom Shop ( The Greeny Less Paul ) limited run only 50 made for $50,000 each and sold them all .. This is a record price set by Gibson for a new guitar..

The pickup covers should have a more significant influence on the tone. This should be nickel silver, if you don't want to loose too much treble/clarity!

How much money would these changes cost for me to do ?

There are too many great playing good quality alternative guitars out there to buy something fake. PERIOD!!! These days you can find a decent guitar for $300 dollars that you can gig with. But here is the thing, what is the purpose of buying the fake guitar? It is funny how I have NEVER seen anyone on a gig a performing with a Chibson/Chender. EVER. So the people buying them are obviously not making money with them unless they are scamming people for money.

That 59 Eppiphone that you had your tech upgrade is a great legit alternative as well as that great 85 yamaha lord player You make a great point that you can get a great les paul without busting the bank account.

How does it feel? How does it sound? Does it fight you? Do you like it? I have been playing for 40 years - I'm not old, just an early starter! and I love all of my HB guitars. Two acoustic guitars, one of them a 12 - string, two electric - a double cut custom resembling the SG Custom (3 pickups and all), a single - cut made of mahogany with a set neck a la Les Paul (all of the necks on my HB guitars are set as they're not Fender style bolt - ons) and a 5 - string fretless bass, this one a through - neck design. They arrived to the PAC NW from Germany within four days of the order. They arrived slightly out of tune . . . horrors! But they tuned up very easily, and all not only stay in tune, but the intonation is spot - on. Let me reiterate: every guitar has perfect intonation up and down the neck, including the notoriously difficult - to - tune/ keep tuned 12er. I always set up my guitars, and these guitars needed little or none. I was bummed because I really didn't have anything to do other than sand and oil the necks. The electric cello arrived with a snapped bridge, but they replaced it, at no charge, in 4 days. They all sound exactly like they're supposed to sound and meet my unusually high - set bar (so I've been told) of quality and standards. The single cut, upon my request, was fitted from the factory with push/pull split coils so the humbuckers can cut to single - coils, with a pull of the tone knobs. Blah blah blah - sorry, I did not mean to go this long. Point is, an excellent guitar does not have to cost over $500, and my HB "Les Paul" sounds and plays better than my early 80's Gibson LP Custom. I'm not kidding. And since it's close to two pounds lighter, still a heavy guitar as mahogany ain't balsa - it's even more fun to play, especially with multiple set gigs. And if it's ever stolen, well, I won't cry as if it was an Alex Lifeson LP. Criticize my buys or my thoughts on my buys, but all my guitarist friends either bought one or more or have them on The Wishlist after playing mine. Sorry to go on and on, but less expensive guitars get a bad rap. And that's bulls**t.

I converted my entire collection over to 70's/80's Matsumoku and Fujigen - mainly Maxon pickups - they are all great - from single coil to humbuckers.
