  • Eurocup first qualification rounds are behind us and the highlight is, obviously, FC RFS breaking the 15-year long curse of Latvian clubs not progressing past QR1 of the Champions League by convincingly beating Northern Irish Champions Larne FC 7-0 on aggregate! FK Auda also made history by winning their first ever European game and by progressing through a European qualification round for the first time, beating Faroese B36 Torshavn 3-0 on aggregate. Liepaja didn't make it (unsurprisingly) and Riga FC only start their Conference League campaign from QR2.
In this episode, we are first joined by Peter Cinnamond of the Kicking Match: An Irish League Podcast to reflect on RFS - Larne FC tie as well as to learn more about Auda's QR2 opponents - Northern Irish Cup winners Cliftonville FC. We are then joined by a Norwegian sports journalist - Jonas Adnan Giæver - to learn more about RFS's Champions League QR2 opponents - FK Bodø/Glimt.

Interesting interviews, but there is a lot of confusion about the Norwegian league. As far as I've heard, a lot of money has been invested in the Norwegian league in recent years, but the last time a Norwegian club was represented in the Champions League was a long time ago - Rosenborg and Molde were the last to do so as far as I can remember. At the moment it is impossible to understand - has Rosenborg remained weaker, or have other clubs become stronger? It's hard to gauge the strength of Bodo/Glimt and the Norwegian league when you see Bodo/Glimt playing great at home but mostly losing away from home. One thing that can help RFS a little is to regularly play on artificial grass and natural grass, because in the Latvian football league, some clubs play on artificial throughout the season - such as FK Metta and BFC Daugavpils.

@@nyxo2233 Might be! But I know that RFS will try to pass Bodo/Glimt and will not give up. But anyway - that still doesn't answer on my question - what is happening in Norway highest league because we don't see they clubs like Rosenborg and Molde in CL group stage anymore many years already?

@@matrixberzins465well its more like they Are or would be decent teams but whenever a player gets actually decent in our leagues they instantly Get snapped up by one of the top 5 leagues or eredivise so its always like the Norwegians teams kinda run into the european stage with alot Worse of a team then they actually have during the season. Well i do Belive the Norwegian teams Are good enough to make the cl groupstage for example Bodø they Are good they play close with good teams like Ajax they beat Roma some years ago and they win against turkish teams often whenever they play, so i think its not to long before we will eventually see a Norwegian team in the cl stage

@@matrixberzins465also with Rosenborgs downfall is more due to bad coaches recently and their Economy is absolutely terrible rn they Are almost bankrupt only thing they can rely on is to proably sell Sverre Nypan and make bank of him

Rosenborg is much weaker than before and has had horrible management for years. At the moment they are no economic force like they used to be and the way back to the top seem pretty long. Norwegian football in general seem to have had a huge development the last years both if you look at european performance and bigger sales and buys out of and into the league.
And as you saw during the games the gap between the teams wasn't insignificant
