Lupes a poet so it’s not always the vibe compared to the rest of hip hop ironically his biggest problem is (popularity wise) is he is capable of making fire ass hip hop songs and even some radio hits so when people tune into him they’re expecting that but it may be a song where he’s on his poetry shit or rock song shit, he’s an artist not a rapper but you’re introduced to him through rap

I would say this is definitely Lupe’s most abstract album in terms of lyrics. I wish they had reacted to Ok Faux Nem, simply bc the message is clearer, and very impactful, without sacrificing the lyricism.
Theres no way this is his most abstract lol. T&Y and DW are way more abstract, this album is very direct & obviously about the effects of drill music. The intro goes through exactly what the albums about too
@@francoisobasi1310 they are connected to sirens but Lupe is talking about mermaids because the legend is that ppl out at sea mistook manatees for mermaids
There is a lot to unpack here, definitely verges on modern poetry. I took it as a social commentary on where he feels the world is headed. Really liked the reference to ancient Egypt. History tends to be forgotten due to time constraints, testing and idiotic state laws. It is a subject that should be taught truthfully and inclusively.
Historians believe the myth of Sirens actually come from Sailors seeing manatees from a distance and believing that what they were seeing was a creature that was half fish half female. That’s what the bar is referring to

Never saw a reaction to “I’m Convinced” or “Different Scales” and I am sure you’d love either or both of them. I guess it’s “old news” now, but those songs are great.
The manatee line refers to sea legend and stories of men at sea for so long that they saw manatee in the ocean or on rocks and were so delusional that they hallucinated that the animals were beautiful women waving to them. This is where we get the stories of mermaids and sirens. Sailors would allegedly be so overcome with desire that some would leap into the water or sail into the rocks. This is why sirens are said to use their song to lure men to their deaths. The more you know. 😊
I forgot this, but the line "mistaking maidens for manatees" is a twist on how early sailors to the New World sometimes mistook manatees (sea cows) for mermaids (probably because of dehydration, etc). This ties into the "pirating" reference with NeuraLink. Lupe has apparently hung out with Elon before & they seem to be on good terms. The Wonder Woman & Thor line is referencing not only the way that people exploit gender conflict for profit rather than discussing & finding peaceful solutions, but also the loss of faith / morals, which has affected what we value (hence the "catching bait with fish" line & the references to prosperity gospel theology). Great reaction by the way!

Mermaids being (mythologically) considered beautiful women, but.....of the sea/half fish half woman. But also could be considered "things" as well. Dunno I could be reading too much into.
