    If you use normal Gin its called John Collins, for a Tom Collins you use Old Tom Gin!

      @JanusDarke1 8 лет назад +2

      You are correct, it's even on the backside of the bottle, they call this the "Bombay Collins".

      @UCHv-bCxBP_RJmK2Vm0Scs0g We believe that the drink name comes from an old game that bartenders used to play on their guests in New York. The Tom Collins game. Check it out. Great vid from the educated barfly: ruclips.net/video/eHXwbGV0ZnQ/видео.html

      There is an "old" saying in the branding world that goes a bit like "why should you call something by its generic name when you can insert your brand name there instead".

    That's a fantastic drink! And it's fine with Bombay Saphire, but in Menorca we make a version of it that we call "Pomada". It's basically exactly the same drink but we use our proud local gin called "Gin Xoriguer" instead of Bombay, and its aromatics give the drink a wonderful flavour that combines with the citrus perfectly. It's probably the island's most popular choice of drink, and rightfully so.
    If you ever visit Menorca don't forget to order a Pomada anywhere you go for a drink. Or if you ever get your hands on a bottle of Gin Xoriguer (beautiful bottle, by the way) this is the drink you have to make with it. You'll enjoy it very much.

    Why do you use caster sugar instead of simple syryp? Wouldn't it give a more clean result? Just curious :)

    • @richiethebartender
      @richiethebartender 2 года назад

      Apologies for the late reply! Maybe you worked it our by now...but for me it was about making the drink more accessible to a home audience. If you use simple at home - go for it. it will save a load of time. Also though, I really like the sharp Herbert flavour you get from using caster sugar.

    • @MrScottie68
      @MrScottie68 2 года назад

      I was thinking the same thing. caster sugar is widely available in the UK but one rarely finds it on store shelves in the USA

    Tell me please the difference between Tom Collins and Gin Fizz!

    • @DrinksTube
      @DrinksTube  7 лет назад +1

      They are VERY similar, but there are some key differences too! A Tom Collins is served with ice in a Tom Collins glass, while a gin fizz is served without ice, in a smaller glass. There are also more variations on the gin fizz, such as the Ramos Gin Fizz: ruclips.net/video/Y8mwi0Wjdek/видео.html

    I love a fresh Tom Collins, but it would've been nice to explain what a Collins glass actually is. :) Is it a particular size or form or...?

    • @DrinksTube
      @DrinksTube  7 лет назад +1

      A Collins glass is basically just a regular glass tumbler that can hold around 300 to 410 millilitres.

    Gotta ask for a question, the soda water with or w/ suger? or just normally soda water

  • @Fishcustard42
    @Fishcustard42 8 лет назад

    What's the difference between a Tom/John Collins and a Gin Fizz? I know there are many versions of Gin Fizz that have egg white or something else, but if you just make a simple Gin Fizz with gin, lemon, syrup/sugar and soda, is there really a difference between the two?

    • @magicvibrations5180
      @magicvibrations5180 8 лет назад +3

      A Tom Collins is served on ice, whereas a gin fizz is shaken and then served up. A gin fizz with egg white is called a silver fizz, and once you have that you can also add cointreau to make a white lady.

      10/10 Magic Vibrations!

    • @richiethebartender
      @richiethebartender 7 лет назад

      Fizzes were also known to be served in shorter glasses and traditionally served with no ice. But like so many other cocktail-isms that's been forgotten along the way too!

      Which is why the video description says "This is a paid ad by Bombay Sapphire". However, i actually like the John Collins with Bombay more than with Old Toms. Just add a dash of angostura on top and you are good to go.
