It's not a reference to Mode 7. This boss was originally supposed to have 2 other forms, "Harpy Force" and "Nemesis Force", but the game was rushed to meet a deadline, so they weren't completed in time. If you check the sound effects menu, the voice samples are still there, though. Also, check the stats screen at the end of the game. It IS "Seven Force".
+Ziggy Bertoli I checked the sound effects menu in my downloaded Wii VC copy of Alien Soldier. I can't find those voice samples you mentioned. Think you could upload a vid with those samples?
Guess I should have clarified the samples are only available in the PS2 port's special menu. Nevertheless, I've taken the liberty to upload them. Enjoy. :)
No, it is a reference to Mode 7, the whole point of the original Gunstar Heroes boss was to show off that the Genesis could do sprite rotation effects without using the SNES' hardware acceleration.
@@davidcopernicuseuclidziggy699 Well, whatever the true reason was. I'm sure glad they stopped there as I feel like that would've been a bit too long of a boss fight. They weren't included due to the poor guy facing time constraints and being force to get the game out a year early Than planned.
It's actually a call out to an anime robot that was called the Seven Changer, which had seven different transformations. Its initial design was known as the Five Changer (as a nod to the original Seven Changer), which then evolved into its own version of Seven Changer, then renamed Seven Force. Also, the Mega Drive could do hardware rotation, so sprites were in multiple frames to achieve its rotation effect.

None of the two existing Sega Genesis mini's offer this, but with a Steam collection you can legally just build your own.
No, Green's Seven Force is different. Kaede's Seven Force she controlled with ESP powers. She's also a cyborg. The Alien Soldier version of Seven Force was developed by the same Sierran research laboratory that held her and all those other super-powered kids prisoner.
@SNESosT So it does have a connection, and I even played both of the games to understand the story. What the hell? This music is practically the exact same thing as the Seven Force boss theme from Gunstar Heroes! And that's to say nothing of the fact it's calling this boss the same name and using forms that seem eerily similar to those from said game! Heck, the main character design reminds me of Merco from Mischief Makers and one of the moves from the initial form of the boss reminds me of a similar move from the final boss of that game.
