Steven Speilberg produced this but it was directed by Joe Dante... whos style is like "Spielberg plus Looney Tunes".. his stuff is tad more cynical (like the Santa story here would never be in a Spielberg film... Dante had to fight for that scene to be in this). Joe has made some other amazing movies. GREMLINS 2, Innerspace, The Howling, Matinee Piranha (the old one), Explorers and The Burbs... all worth a look. Spielbergs main contribution to this was making Gizmo a "good guy"... the original Chris Columbus (Home Alone) script was pretty hard R rated and there was no good gremlin. Also, Billy's mom died in that version... pretty horribly if i recall. Also, what makes them change into gremlins in that movie was earing meat... which in the old script was Billy's dog 😂 also, Gremlins basically eat the whole town. all true, btw.
this movie came out when i was 12 and when my Grandma would turn my bedroom light on in the mornings i would say "bright light!, bright light!", i'm 52 now and still say "bright light!, bright light!" every time someone turns on a light... lol 😁😁😁
the funny part with this movie is that over here in Europe, we would have known the TV Show (with the same name) better, in fact in my country the movie almost NEVER gets aired, then again the TV show hasn't aired since the middle of the 90s anymore either.
Gremlins is one of those magical movies that is acceptable for both Christmas and Halloween. WW2 pilots blamed Gremlins for all the things that would go wrong on their fighter planes
I always wanted to know which time zone after midnight and what time can you start feeding them again? So many things we have to learn before we are ready to care for them properly.
I finally found a copy of the book again! Have to do a full re-read. The book made it clear that they are born knowing OF the three rules, but not the details. One of the first 5 (named Clorr) gets caught outside and killed in the sunlight. So they learned that about light. Billy took one to school and put water on it then took it back home, Billy forgot to tell the teacher the food rule. The other boy was going to go back to the school and tell him, but forgot. Later Stripe sabotaged the clock, thinking it was the TV and if he unplugged it Billy would go get them food, by pulling the wrong wire he got lucky in being fed after midnight. Less than one in a thousand Mogwai inherits the peaceful nature, very high intelligence and near immortality of its parent. For the majority of Mogwi their lives are quite literally "brutish and short" and they are born knowing it so they crave the power of the lager stronger bodies. While less smart than the minority, the majority are still bright enough that things like the electronics of the chair, car brakes, driving etc. are all child's play to them. Gizmo and Stripe have a few conversations before and after Clorr (the one trapped outside) died. Gizmo of course will not tell him anything and even uses convoluted psychology on Stripe to have him not go on a reproductive frenzy, knowing that the more of his type there are the faster they might stumble on the food rule. Kate also lost a Grandmother, a dog, and had her appendix burst on other Christmases. On a twisted note here is a good song to go with this movie: Bob Rivers - The Chimney Song
Fyi, in regards to cutting brakes on a vehicle: they cut the brake fluid line, so the electric brake light still comes on cause the pedal is still being touched. But all the fluid is leaking out so when the pedal is pushed it cannot engage the brake pad to the brake rotors. Had they just cut the brake light wire, the brake light would not work but the brakes themselves would still work and stop the car.
when I saw the film at the time, I was 14, at the scene of the mother "defender of the home" in the cinema a chorus of shouts exploded "go mommy! go!"... the real heroine of the film!
9:15 "Does no-one know where it comes from? Cos it looks alien." Interesting that you mention that. In the "Gremlins" novelisation it's mentioned that the Mogwai race was created by a being named Mogturmen, who wanted to create a lifeform as an ambassador or universal goodwill, but something went horribly wrong, and all but one in ten thousand Mogwai were birthed malevolent and dangerous. Gizmo turned out to be a wonderful glitch.

Hi Natacha, I'm glad you liked this entertaining creature feature, it's crazy funny and freaky, I enjoyed your reaction to it. My favourite part is when the gremlins take over the pub! 1) You made me realize there are STRONG "ALIEN" connections. The eggs, but also, the mom must be Ripley's grandma! So I guess Billy is Ripley's dad? 2) I CANNOT SEE an orange juice machine without thinking "Rand Peltzer". Simply. Can. Not. In fact it happened just earlier today in a supermarket 😂 3) Yes there is a sequel - also by Joe Dante , btw, this is part of Spielberg's productions but not his film - but it's silly IMHO. 4) there are ties to a legendary franchise you will inevitably watch, but I'm not sying what 5) the final "goodbye Billy" hit me right in the feels... damn, I'm 10 again Cheerio
@ 21:45 About people not understanding the difference between actors and their characters. That is very true. There is a very talented voice actress that got death threats because the character that she voiced was the villain. Thankfully they were empty threats but still people are insane. Can you imagine you as an actor do such a good job portraying a villain or antagonist that you have to watch your back for a while.
I was 13 when this movie came out and I love it. Gizmo was cute, adorable and is my pick for the MVP of this movie. There is a Gremlins 2. Gremlins was directed by one of my favorite director's, Joe Dante. He directed Piranha(1978), The Howling, Explorers, Innerspace, Small Soldiers, The Burbs(with Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher) and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. He also directed a segment of 1983's Twilight Zone: The Movie. But the one movie of his I really love is Matinee. It's set in 1962 Key West, Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis. One thing I love about Joe Dante's movies are his references to movies and television shows from the 50's and 60's. A lot of actors from those movies and shows make cameo appearances in his films. In one scene in Gremlins, you can spot Steven Spielberg in a motorized wheelchair, Jerry Goldsmith(who composed the scores for all of Joe Dante's films), Robby the Robot from the classic sci-fi movie Forbidden Planet and the time machine from the 1960 film adaptation of H.G. Wells The Time Machine. And I love Phoebe Cates as Kate in this movie. She is still one of the best 80's movies dream girl crushes. Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Drop Dead Fred, Date with An Angel(even though her character in that movie is a spoiled brat), just to name a few. I think every teenage boy like I was at the time(and maybe a few girls) had a major crush on her. I love her best as Kate in this movie.
So.. There's the Grinch, and well, that got old. The little "demons in he basement" decided that wasn't enough so they created these things. Cuz, I guess Grinch wasn't chaotic enough. Enter Gremlins. Personally, I love the little buggers. But this time around, they switched up the ingredients a bit, changing it to: One 50 gallon barrel of chaos, 15 gallons of ugly, 10 gallons of stupid, and topped with a heavy layer of whipped-curiosity-cream. Such a delightful recipe, I must say. Absolutely brilliant. 8:04 Ohhhh, I'm sure the Gremlins will take care of her soon enough. -grins
And the moral of the story is be afraid of Christmas. Be very afraid. Anyway I got see those Gremlin puppets up close and personal at some sort of convention show. It's crazy how much work they actually put into them. I mean that scene is just bonkers too. All those puppets being operated at the same time. I would love to know if there were individual puppeteers if they had some kind of rig. Regardless it's always cool to see people put everything into their technical effects like this.
Love this movie. Phone Cates, the love interest, was my first crush when I was little. I would definitely look at Gremlins 2. Just don’t go into it with expectations, because it is much more of a self aware film. It plays a lot.
What a wonderful movie for a Christmas reaction! It's made all the better by your accent (Yorkshire?). I came across your channel when you reacted to The Mummy, and you and Rodney are the greatest!
Spielberg was only a producer at this movie. The funny ideas probably originated from the script of Chris Columbus. That's the same guy that produced and directed the first Harry Potter movies. And the first Home Alone movies and The Goonies and Mrs Doubtfire, just to name a few of the more famous movies. And yes, there was a Gremlins 2 from 1990.
Can't wait to see you watch the insanity of the sequal! 😂 Given your reaction to the old lady at the beginning guessing you've not see 'Wizard of Oz'? Couple other classic films you might like: Andromeda Strain, Batteries Not Included, Bedknob's & Broomstick's, Flight of the Navigator 😁
54:20 No, they did not know that there was going to be a sequel (not that unusual a situation, as the studio often wants to see if a film is a good-enough success first before even considering any sequels). In fact, Joe Dante, the director, was initially reluctant to do a sequel as he thought that the ending neatly tied everything up (plus he found working on the first film quite draining). However, he did eventually relent as long as he retained creative control (plus he had a considerably higher budget thrown in for good measure); the result was _Gremlins 2: The New Batch_ (1990) - six years later. The sequel is very enjoyable. As an added titbit: make sure that you watch the closing credits of the sequel right the way through as there are some amusing bits in those too.

Hi Natacha, I'm glad you liked this entertaining creature feature, it's crazy funny and freaky, I enjoyed your reaction to it. My favourite part is when the gremlins take over the pub! Its like a cartoon! Yes there is a sequel: Gremlins 2, The New Batch (1990) it's over the top outrageous and is so good. Billy, Kate & Gizmo are back in it, please react to that soon :) I love your reactions amd your enthusiastic personality :) I'm subscribed :) Merry Xmas and a happy new year :)
Isn't steven Spielberg just his company. It's a Christopher Columbus and Joe Dante film
Romeo is here, I had to watch this first so I could watch her reaction. You know the honor code. So to the beautiful lady across the pond, keep singing and don't feed ronnie after dark 😏 If ronnie gets loose, there will be so much woe onto britain. We can not let that happen, my darling So Romeo has come here to protect you, now you can sleep soundly💪 🎉 💋💘Until next time. Romeo away 😊
As crazy as it sounds, the guy and his wife are perfectly fine in the sequel. Some Gremlin trauma here and there, but fine nonetheless
They originally had Billy finding his moms severed head
omg!! 🫨
28:03 "I do not need to worry about you." It seems like she's been well trained by the varied failures of her husband's many inventions!
tascha, i like the gremliin with popcorn bags on his ears when they are watching snow white
Such a great singer tasho baggins are 😊 merry Christmas everybody hope your holiday will be a good one
1) You made me realize there are STRONG "ALIEN" connections. The eggs, but also, the mom must be Ripley's grandma! So I guess Billy is Ripley's dad?
2) I CANNOT SEE an orange juice machine without thinking "Rand Peltzer". Simply. Can. Not.
In fact it happened just earlier today in a supermarket 😂
3) Yes there is a sequel - also by Joe Dante , btw, this is part of Spielberg's productions but not his film - but it's silly IMHO.
4) there are ties to a legendary franchise you will inevitably watch, but I'm not sying what
5) the final "goodbye Billy" hit me right in the feels... damn, I'm 10 again
Cheerio
Don’t you just hate it when a sibling gets there first!🤪
it truly is, especially since i'm also the eldest aha
@ Me too, younger brother. Always enjoy your vids, thanks.
Rodney is very festive, but he could use a topper. Love your jumper.
Great reaction Tasha! 😂😂😂 and yes.... get on Gremlins 2 ❤
This, Ghostbusters & Teen Wolf were my introduction to horror when I was 6. Horror is one of my wife and my favorite movie genres!
Hi Natascha Awesome reaction to grimlin's thanks for watching the movie and I love your Christmas sweater ❤💚🦌🎄👍 As always your reactions are the best
Thank you 🤗 i appreciate you! 💖
@nataschasummers You're welcome and always anytime🥰🥰🥰
I came across your channel when you reacted to The Mummy, and you and Rodney are the greatest!
awh thank you so much, glad you liked it! Manchester/Yorkshire ahha 🥰🥰 the manc comes out more when im annoyed ah
AWESOME score composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith.
😂 Given your reaction to the
old lady at the beginning guessing you've not see 'Wizard of Oz'?
Couple other classic films you might like:
Andromeda Strain,
Batteries Not Included,
Bedknob's & Broomstick's,
Flight of the Navigator 😁
I loved watching the movie with all you guys so a great laugh, this movie such a classic ❤
What a sweet movie! 80s feel-good stuff. Cool seeing you with this.
Lovely to see your comment, hope you are well! 💖Glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
@nataschasummers Tysm. And a very merry Christmas to you! 🎄
I had a Gizmo teddy bear when I was a kid.
