Jenny, I want to say thank you for saying on this quilt you did your cutting and sewing 1 square at a time. That is how I have to do my quilts and I thought that I was really strange for doing that. Glad to hear I am in great company. 😀
Natalie's right! Every little sliver adds up, and might mean the difference between matching seams and non-matching seams! I think I will cut two 4.5"x 2.5" rectangles of each colour of the strip instead of four squares of each, just to eliminate a couple of seams in each block ... and have a smidge more fabric in my "crumbs bin". Thanks MSQC team for another winner of a pattern and tutorial !! ~Diana K.., Hamilton , ON (Canada) :-D
I thought the same about cutting longer strips, but I don't think that will work with all four strips. You will need to have partial seams to get that middle white square in if you did all four rectangles. I'd love to know how yours turns out. I'm going to try this too.
@@bobhaws1589, er, Lily (I saw your post☺️), i thought this was a lot of piecing with all of the squares. But, you're right about the partial seam around the center square. Which in the long run, all the squares would be quicker. I did blocks with partial seaming for my grandson's quilt and began to wonder about my sanity.😄. The piecing of all the squares would be easier, and less tedious, to me.
So many pieces yet you showed how easily it will come together. Love the cute "Chuck the Duck" quilting. Miss seeing him at the beginning of the tutorials. He should make a return visit 😉
Hi Jenny. I love this quilt pattern. It looks complicated but isn’t. Several of us ladies in my church our going to start sewing Quilts of Valor, and several of the ladies are not experienced. This is the perfect block for them, and it would be beautiful in red whit and blue prints. ❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
... even with all these small pieces, Jenny made this seem so easy - with "one" 1 block at a time assembly. Love it - would even like to attempt this using a 5" base
You could start with a layer cake collection and cut it into 5-inch squares. You might have enough blocks for 2 quilts! That would be fun for twins! It would also require a bit of math to figure out the yardage for the background fabric. I'm hoping that you will try out your idea, it sounds great!
@@judithburke1539 ... that would definitely work. When my budget allows, I have been buying layer cakes and charms (2 packs per fabric line each time) for a few months now. Fun, Fun, Fun 😊
Yes, Funny I was thinking of using bigger squares too. I also thought, if it looks too big before the outer border is on, this pattern would still look just as good without the purple border. Maybe a scalloped, or picketed finished edge would be nice. Or sewing the binding in the smaller 2 1/2 squares of different colored fabrics.
I recently purchased a roll of Navy theme 2 1/2” strips from MSQC, and I am considering adding red strips also. Perhaps w a white background fabric. And even a gold-ish fabric, for a ‘valor’ theme, or Red-White-Blue theme, For an amazing grandson! My excitement builds.
Hi, Jenny. You did not disappoint again. I simply love the pattern, & how cheerful it make's me feel. I may use 5" squares, & do the math to not have it come out too large. I could drop the large outer border. Then bind it in all the different fabrics in 2 1/2 inch small squares. I may even put on a scalloped border, or picketed even. Thanks Jenny.
I love your videos, and my brain doesn't work like others also. I like your reasoning to work how you think. I have learned so much watching your (and the girls too) videos. Thank you for teaching us how to do the patterns.
Hi! I hope you had a happy day! I had a long day sewing in my sewing room today and now I get to sit and hand quilt while I watch your video. I hope you have a joyful week ahead. Thank you for sharing your video, your time and positive energy!
What a fun design & fabrics are so bright/happy too. What a great Easter/spring quilt but wouldn't this look amazing in Christmas or even Birthday themed fabrics? I would definitely need to have a block laid out to look at & still use the unclipped thread pinning trick to keep the order correct & check it a lot, a lot. Well worth the effort though. Thank You Jenny/ MSQC for another great quilt tutorial :)
I would like to suggest that you finger press the connected squares in opposite directions after sewing a row of squares and then continue the same pattern of right and left throughout the rest of the block so that all of the seams will nest easily. I do have to watch to see if the seam on the bottom gets flipped or not, because of the "bump" on the sewing platform of my machine. FYI ☺️
Cool chain piecing technique! Jenny, ❤️ your hair- great cut! You look so happy and healthy. Your Friday videos make my day. This is a great pattern for the Corner Clipper, my fave HST tool.
HI Jenny thankyou for showing how to make this beautiful bright happy quilt 🥰 l so love watching your videos you always put a smile on my face 😊. 🌼Daisy Dale from downunder 🐨 🦘 🇦🇺 .
This is very cute and can be used with multiple color ways. Whenever I have 2 jelly rolls that don't match in width, I take the wider one and cut the whole strips down to 2 1/2" width before I even start subcutting. Thanks.
I was glad to see Jenny trimming those strips to match. I usually end up doing that too & it seems kind of silly but it can make a huge difference. A friend in quilting group used a jelly roll for the first time last winter but didn’t realize about that pinked edge making a difference. By the time we realized what was going on she had to decide whether to rip out a large portion of her quilt or try to adapt. It was a battle all the way through adjusting blocks, trimming some and adding small sashings to others but she got it finished and it looked good. Learning process!
This is very pretty quilt for either a baby or young child; or even someone young at heart! Will have to save my pennies for a few weeks cause I want the specialty ruler set & pattern. TY Jenny Doan for sharing this delightful design.
I ‘finger press’ as I go to help the seams lay flat as I go, making 1 row goes 1 way and the next goes opposite so the seams will nest. I’m inspired to use that triangle!
Jenny, I have been watching your videos from 5 years forward. I love them and you have taught me so much. Tell me when is a scant quarter is used versus a true quarter inch? 🤪
I really like this. Am wondering if one could use the mini charm packs. I haven't seen any mixed solid ones though. Either way, I'd love to have one of these cheerful quilts.
I will answer my post regarding using the mini charm packs. One would have to have a ton of mini charms to get the same effect of this quilt. Jenny knows what she's doing and I need to just listen to her. It takes 8 mini packs to equal 1 charm pack, so I can only imagine how many it would take to equal 2 Jelly Rolls. To get that size of quilt it's much smarter to do it the way Jenny did; and more economical. I guess my brain got lazy there! Always follow Jenny's instructions.☺

Natalie?? This is Jenny that is making the video. I don't see Natalie anywhere on here.

Love the method of triangle squares
Great tutorial on this quilt. Looks beautiful and boy do I have 2.5" squares in my life. LOL I'm a scrap quilter by heart..
Hello Jackie, how are you hope you’re doing well
This is a nice looking, fun block and very easy to do. All that tedious piecing, however, would drive me nuts.
I can learn from you almost better than any other teacher. Your voice is pleasant and easy to listen to
Imagine this using Christmas fabric - so many options for all holidays.
Hi Jenny, I have never seen the technique of making a ribbon point on a 2 1/2” square. Thank you so much, I cannot wait to give this a try! 🥰 Chris
PS This quilt turned out so nice 😄🥰thank you for sharing, 🥰 Chris
That quilt makes me happy! 🤩 Great tutorial, thank you Jenny🥰

It would also look nice doing a border with just the points if you see what I mean.
Wow, Jenny is a PRO! Love that technique!

I love your quilt tutorials. I learn by visual and have trouble understanding patterns. So happy that you give all the cutting measurements also.
I completely agree. Visuals are the best.

Great size on this quilt! A little bit bigger border makes it an official queen size! Love it!!
Love this pattern. You explain everything so well. Enjoy watching you and your girls. Thank you.
I love the way the squares are linked together by a thread - it seems to help the sewing of the block ! Always learning new things from Jenny!

Love this block, Jenny makes it so easy with one at a time, which is also how I would have to do it.
Love this quilt and chuck the duck long arm pattern.....quack
My blue & yellow quilt had over 1200 blocks at 2.5 inches each. It took time, results was stunning!
Just Adorable!!!! A MUST MAKE!🤗🤗 Thanks you!

I think you could make some real cute placemats with this pattern. I have to make small projects because I live in a VERY small apartment.
What a beautiful quilt! You are so talented!
