    Very cool and complete video. I have a pool technician that comes out once a week to maintain my pool and equipment. He will not share his knowledge and will not let me touch my own equipment. Little does he knows, he has a job for life. I only like to know about the equipment not do the work.

    So there’s no need to release the air relief valve to remove the pump lid?

      Vince, Cuba was awesome the people are so friendly. Saw hundreds of old cars. They cannot get parts so when the engine blows they put engine's from Russian cars. You and Deanna should go it was so educational . Take Care

    Hi there! I have a pentair 2000 series de filter too but I noticed mine doesn't have that vent tube? How do I install one? Thanks in advance

    • @VinceRocca

      My tube was missing when I bought the house. I ordered one and it just goes into a hole in the bottom manifold. This one appears to have a built in strainer Pentair 075279 46-Inch Vent Tube Replacement SM and SMBW Series Pool and Spa Filter amzn.com/ASIN/?tag=povert0f20-20 or you probably could put a screen on any tube

    Why instead of taking chances of a accident. To take the filter top off, if you open the air reliefe on filter and take the lid off the pump, the lid just lifts right off. And putting it back on, you didnt have to put it in backwash. Just take the lid off of the pump and the filter will drain and pull the lid right down. Just thought I would share how a pool professional does things.

    That was so interesting. Times have changed and so have the filters! No more sand in the filter...just grates! Makes sense. But what is DE? And I assume it gathers in the filter to assist in the cleaning process? I miss the days we would climb down in a community pool filter system and spend the day shoveling out the different grades of sand. The next day would be spent filling the filter with new grades of sand. And for only $5.50 an hour!

      DE is Diatomaceous Earth. It’s crushed up fossilized rock. It coats the grates or grids to capture the dirt, much like sand does. 5.50 an hour. I wish I got 5.50 to clean my filter LOL.

    What is it that u put in the end?? 6 cups of what?

    • @VinceRocca
      @VinceRocca  Год назад

      It’s a DE filter so it requires Diatomaceous Earth. Its the filter agent that holds the dirt. You local pool supply will have it. Note: Sand filters use sand and cartridge filters just have a cartridge element that you hose off.

    Im one of those that would take the grids to the lawn and hose them of there. Last 4 backwash sessions, i went ahead and tried your method, to cramed even if i take a couple of grids out , the DE would just bounce of the tank walls and some of the DE would stick to the adjacent grid. Also, i had to be careful and watch the pressure i was exerting onto the grids, if not i would get DE on me. Im going back to my old setup.

    Question, I have the same filter model,but the backwash valve not working, I did a mistake when cleaning the filter, I removed the cap, top part and let water fill it up and drain towards the top, and also the dirty water went back to the pool and pool is now dirty with the old DE, Messy and cloudy pool now. What do to?

    • @VinceRocca
      @VinceRocca  5 лет назад

      Oh, without a backwash drain, its going to be tough. You’ll need to open the air relief to drain the tank of most of its water. Then try to quickly pop the lid off. Next, If you have a valve on the return line to the pool, shut it to stop DE going back. Then pull the grates and clean them on your lawn.
      But in reality you should get the backwash valve fixed. Is it just stuck? If its frozen, maybe you can nudge it loose with the tank open and not under pressure. Otherwise you might have to remove the tank and take it in to a pool shop. Or have a repair person come out. It’s really difficult without a working backwash valve.
      In a day or two, the de will settle in the pool and you can just vacuum it up.

      VinceRocca thanks. Will fix valve. But now how to clean the pool from dirty water?? Now it has new DE and filter working great.

    • @VinceRocca
      @VinceRocca  5 лет назад

      You just need to wait for the de in the pool to settle. You might need to turn the filter off for a day so the water isn’t agitated by the return so the de can sink to the floor. Then you’ll hook up the vacuum and slowly suck it up.

      VinceRocca ok, yes valve is old, got stuck. At this time will only backwash to the top of the tank , but I don't see shut off valve to avoid returning the mess to pool. Any tips to do it better this time?? I have pentair 200 series filter tank

    • @VinceRocca
      @VinceRocca  5 лет назад

      Not all pools are plumed with a return shutoff. You can use a rubber or possibly threaded plug in the pool to shut the return off. It should backwash out of the tank not to the top??
