    Great video! I have the V860iii and can confirm that there is a huge and intolerable delay when shooting in TTL mode...!

  • @patrick8035
    @patrick8035 Месяц назад +1

    After I watched this video I immediately tested on my s5ii and godox x2to trigger on ttl and confirmed it. In hindsight I did notice the delay already, but I was using the camera with the phone app as a remote shutter to test Portrait Lighting, so I thought the lag was from how I was triggering the camera. I also had a canon (m50) and also confirmed that this wasn’t an issue on the canon using its respective x2tc trigger. Overall I’m pretty happy with my S5ii so I’m kind of glad I didn’t see this until after I’d already bought it, since I do like using flash, though not in such a fast paced environment like you; but I can see the lag getting old real quick if it causes me to miss a candid moment. Fingers crossed lumix does fix it…because they don’t have their own flash to sell, hopefully they’ll be more cooperative with 3rd party manufacturers on getting a solution out. Great video!

      Thank you!
      Like I said in the video, switch to manual mode if you need the fastest performance, but that has its own downsides of needing to deal with changing exposure for the environment, but hey it’s what you gotta do I guess.
      Hopefully they fix it asap!!!

    hi, im considering the HD1 due to its compatibility with different camera ssytems, do i need a dedicated jinbei trigger or can i use a godox trigger?

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto  16 дней назад

      You’ll need a jinbei or westcott trigger, godox will not work with it.
      The good news is the Jinbei/westcott triggers work with all cameras just like the flashes :)

  • @stoke1863

    Hi im Stephen the wedding photographer from the video, Some more points,
    on the Godox V1 i would get banding at the bottom of photos with HSS but at really random SS, and also even without TTL when im below sync speed id get the random banding right at bottom.
    Also using the X2T triggers on GOdox had even more shutter delay i maionly shoot with triggers, Jinbei is better in that regard for. On JInbei you cant burst shoot with TTL or HSS you have to sue X-Sync, on Godox you can burst fire but the burst mode is literally a quarter of the speed that it shoudl its really quite bad.
    TLDR Lumix basically suck at Flash

    great video! what a shame for Lumix having this problem for a while and still no solution ... Having 6 godox flashes and now got X2t trigger for Lumix and after few days of trying to live with this delay I ended up ordering Jingbei

  • @modiartstudio

    I bought the Westcott FJ80ii M Universal, brand new at the same price as jinbei. I emailed them (Westcott) and I’m was assured as the flash is 100% compatible with Panasonic S5ii. I didn’t had time to test it out as I’ve just received and also I will need to update the flash firmware before using it.

      Manual mode for flash, eye detection OFF, AF-s and move the AF point over the head and you won’t have any issues!
      I typically set flash power to around 1/64 and then adjust my ISO to suit, shooting at around 200-800 ISO depending on the lighting

  • @amccreative
    @amccreative Месяц назад

    Just bought the Godox V1 Pro for my Lumix G9. The flash wobbles on the shoe mount even with the locking ring engaged. Went in-store and tested a couple more Godox flash units with the locking ring and they all do the same. Have you had this issue? If so what was the solution?

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto  Месяц назад

      Yeah that’s a design problem with the V1Pro, it’s why I much prefer the tightening knob of the Jinbei.
      That said the regular V1 I felt was a bit more solid on my S5ii.
      Despite the slightly loose feeling of it it’s never been an issue in use, and I cannot stand the always on backlight of the Jinbei hence why I still feel the v1Pro is the best option for Lumix.

      @@rudermanphoto appreciate the fast response. Yeah loved the flash itself but was left unsettled by how loose it felt on the camera. Would be so much better with a simple tightening ring rather than the disco lock.

    man, please! May anyone help me? I'm using the original Lumix DMW-FL360L on S5II and S5IIX and when I shot with it attached and turned on, the camera hunts the focus during the shutter moment and the photos are out of focus 50% of the time. Is this a commom issue?

    Hey, the video is perfect!With perfect timing. It's funny, yesterday I found out this problem on Lumix Facebook group and makes me worried to switch from sony A7iii to Lumix s5iix - love the brand, what they offer to the table, but I'm mainly photographer that shoot proms, club and weddings the most with flash. I reached out to Lumix with this problem even that I don't have Lumix camera yet haha. 100% it's problem with Lumix and small firmware update will solve this. But what I see in this video is fine so far and probably gives me a bit of a headache and I hope that Lumix fix that.
    I have one question, the westscotts flash have the same problem with backlight? Or it's like godox V1/V1pro?

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto  Месяц назад +2

      I made this video knowing it’ll likely appeal to a fairly small audience but I am extremely passionate about flash photography and hope that by making this video Lumix can maybe take note and fix their TTL performance because it’s my only serious problem with their cameras and it’s so frustrating to deal with!
      As far as using it, yes, it *works* but compared to how easy it is on Canon it’s like night and day, and it’s all something software related, nothing more!
      Here’s hoping they address the problem.
      And yes, as far as I can tell there is no way to turn the backlight off on the Jinbei or the Westcott, I dug through both manuals and tried everything but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn it off: if I do find out there is a way to do it I’ll put that in a pinned comment though!!!

    • @lukasholy8006
      @lukasholy8006 Месяц назад

      I hope they will fix it as soon as possible, although they have a smaller market share compared to other brands, but I think that the s5ii is a minor revolution for lumix to get into the subconscious of hybrid users and they will also think about photographic functions even if it is mainly a video company. Love their support through updates and if they can stay in that philosophy? I see Lumix taking over other brands!
      Thanks for all informations you mentioned!

    It‘s kinda frustrating. I‘ve been sh!tting on Fuji for their subpar AF. Now I learn that Lumix has so many problems of their own: No phase detect AF on higher framerates and no good use of flash. Geez. Maybe I should have went from S5 to the A7IV, instead of S5 II.

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto  Месяц назад +2

      In the grand scheme of things the issues with Lumix are hardly comparable to Fuji - the AF is night and day difference and while yes no TTL flash is annoying, using it in manual yields no issues at all with performance.
      If you went Sony you’d have other problems ;)
