Noice. I've been keeping my eye out for one of these, trying to bag one cheap. Had the TTArtisan 28/5.6 and it was really good, but the minimum aperture let it down.

I had this lens.. it wasn't sharp anywhere. Not usable. I sent it back via Amazon - there are lenses that are much better for less money.

How is IQ compared with a iPhone 16 ProMax. I just got the XT30ii and am trying to decide if I made a good purchase. Sure the body is cool as are the recipes, but that's nothing I can't replicate by shooting RAW and editing in LRM.

Love the videos. Getting back into photography after a long layoff. Bought a Nikon Z8 and a bunch of lenses, and I love it, but it is a beast. Size and weight are really a problem for travel and street shooting. So I bought an XT-5, which couldn't be more different from an ergonomic standpoint. Now I prefer the Fujifilm camera for most situations. Followed your recommend on the Zeiss 32mm and that is my goto package for walking around now. You are spot on about image quality not being the one and only thing to think about. If your camera doesn't inspire you to create, you might need to consider other options. You've taken declarative stances on what's best, and you know what, I think that you're right. I am shooting with an S1, and everything from the build quality to image quality is so good. I am in love with it. Now I am going to get the 50mm 1.4 S Pro and an S1R for a 2nd body. The value is just so good right now, it's wild. Thanks for the heads up, and keep up the great work. All the buzz over the X100VI has me looking at Fujifilm camera’s for the first time. I switched form Nikon to Sony about 10 years ago, and happily stayed with Sony because of the incredible lenses. Fuji’s color profile and film similuation are definitely the main temptation though. Where Sony has gradually improved their color science, it’s been a slow process. Here’s the thing I’m seeing as dig deeper though - is Fuji color too distinctive? I get the whole fun factor, and that’s what I’m after too, but I have to admit that the photo examples I see from RUclips reviewers are all starting to look alike. How do you keep your own signature style when Fuji has such a strong look of their own? That seems to be the big question.

Not-yet Fuji user here. If the camera doesn't know what aperture you're shooting at, how can you get a meter reading to set shutter speed?

You are the fortunate guy. This camera usually sells for 50-100 USD. I have this one, and I have had TS/FT3 & 4 before. I also tried some Olympus TG. FT5 is a really nice camera.

Great video, and thank you for testing this product! The Panasonic S1R has been quite a niche product since its release in 2019. Similarly, there are very few tests of L-mount lenses available. However, I genuinely believe that Panasonic cameras offer excellent value for money. When comparing cameras with similar specifications from other brands like Sony, Nikon, and Canon, Panasonic’s pricing is much more affordable. I am a Panasonic S5 user myself, and to be honest, I was initially worried about its autofocus. But after using it for a long time, I found that it hasn’t significantly impacted my shooting experience. Even though people are saying that the second generation of the S1R is about to be released, I would still consider getting the first generation as my high-resolution camera. Buy the way after watching your review of the LUMIX S PRO 50mm lens, I decided to get one myself. I’m really looking forward to it!

T-stops are only usable with lenses that make corrections for what is called "focus breathing". The "number" in F/number as well as the "f" are only valid with a lens focused at infinity - in the case of lenses that have no compensation of focus breathing. So when a lens has the focus breathing correction, this solves two problems: rather than faulty f/numbers, a fair indication in T stops of how much light comes through, and, no more "aperture breathing". In order to get focus breathing suppressed, a prime lens's design must become a subtle zoom lens's where the extension of focal length (by focusing closer by than infinity) is compensated by shortening the focal length (zooming out a bit, precisely in relation to the focus breathing effect). A lens being a zoom lens does not mean that is has focus breathing. It's possible but not a rule.

I have this lens and it’s wonderful, my copy focus throw is butter, not stiff at all but, mine was well used. I love the D series lenses of the older Nikkors and the rare and pricey 28mm F/1.4 D lens is phenomenal. I like the 85mm f/1.4 D as well or for portraits the 105mm f/2 DC is a stunner!

It's getting a bit boring. All those videos titled - "This Lens Turns Everything Into A Hollywood Movie", or something similar. I play the video hoping it will be something different than Another anamorphic lens, and it turns out it is indeed... another anamorphic lens. Maybe im just jealous.

I must admit I've been looking at the S1 recently and amazed that they can be picked up for under £600, that's about the same price as a tidy Fuji XT3. I shoot with Fuji at the moment so the step up in weight is a bit off-putting but I do like the ergonomics of holding a chunkier camera. Certainly something I'm considering. I mainly shoot landscapes and family photos so the auto focus would be fine for me I'm sure.

If you’re going to expand into more anamorphic and cine lenses then it could be worth also trying out/reviewing the DJI Focus Pro LiDAR system for the s5iiX. The DJI will turn that Sirui Venus into an autofocus lens while also having the ability to control the autofocus of any native lumix lenses! DJI partnered with Lumix and so the LiDAR can control the autofocus capabilities of the native lenses on the s5iiX. I know the lumix has good autofocus but LiDAR has better lowlight performance over phase detection focus systems generally. And if paired with the new generation DJI gimbals then it will also control the following function of the gimbal too. Such a cool system for s5iiX video users!

I've got the sirui 24mm 1.33x for my fuji purely for photography. My initial though was that is could be good for landscape images when de-squeezed, but it also make for unique general images. Its my "creative" lens, of which when I head to Tassie later this year I intend to take it with me.

Well said. Love mine and for product photography or landscapes - just brilliant. It is also called into duty sometimes as my "C" or "D" camera in a pinch - shooting 5k video.

I ended up getting a SmallRig tripod for my EOS R. It's a little on the flimsier side of things in terms of sturdiness, but for around $70USD I can't really complain. I like your carbon fiber tripod you showed, I might look into one of those as an upgrade.

Try put the leica optics on the xpro1. You might get blown away again. Have you tested that? Some say the xpro1 with leica glass blows the m8 away.

Excellent review , I bought this camera new in 2017 right after the price dropped from 3700 dollars to 2600 dollars on average, mine was new and I got it for 2200 dollars and it’s still in excellent condition, I’ve shot dozens of weddings and events of all types , I will always keep this camera , it’s a beast for durability, I intend to get a mark 4 soon but only because of the wireless features, if your on the fence about getting this camera , it’s an excellent one to have it’s still very feature rich if you can buy the lens to go with it you can’t go wrong and it’s nearly impossible to shoot bad photos , I use the 24-70 2.8 lens and 70-200 2.8 lens most of the time , both l lens red ring so as always the glass is the secret to wonderful pictures .

Even as 2024 heads to a close, although I moved to R5’s for my commercial work a few years back, having used 5D MkIII’s for a decade, couldn’t bring myself to sell on all my 5D MkIII’s, so kept one back, I still enjoy it, and use it for non work related stills, more than I have ever used the R5’s, but also, it gets an outing at many of my commercial shoots - definitely the D5 MkIII remains my best camera, the R5’s are ‘just work tools’ , a feeling I never attributed to the 5D MkIII

The Lumix S5II images are fantastic in low-light. They are the cleanest I have ever seen on a FF camera.
