Your tutorials have been invaluable to me, especially this one. I have written up some local walks for my village website and illustrated them with openstreetmaps imported into Inkscape. There will also be a village information board detailing all the walks. I would not have been able to do this without your tutorials, thank you very much!
You are awesome!! I'm a teacher and I 'm looking for this solution for a ton of years. So finally I can make some map for my students. I'm happy to find you sir really!.
5:02 What are these "more advanced options for exporting the map data"??? I mean I love that OSM gives you SVG, but it would be a complete different deal to get layers!
hey Tj, thanks for sharing this. I'm currently starting up a career as a permaculture designer and learning to use the free software program Inkscape. I have tried to follow your steps explained in the video but what happens with me is that the imported svg file doesn't show up completely. I notice that it takes some time to upload but then it only shows a river depticted in my selected area, the rest just doesn't show up, stays blanc? Any idea what this means? 👌
Hey TJ. Thank you these are fantastic tutorials!! I am looking to get outlines of lakes to make personalized wood signs. Would this be how to do it or is there a better way?
I never knew about Open Street Map! One question, when you have loaded your SVG map data into Inkscape, how would you go about cutting out just a rectangle of it so it becomes a usable size?
awesome tutorial! You mentioned quickly there is a way to create a layered svg from downloaded data. Do you have any resources to using the API from OSM and processing the data to make a layered svg?
When you saved the map as a SVG file you checked the box for save the marker but when you opened it in escape I did not see any blue marker what happened.

That is neat! I will certainly use this as it could us find places quickly. Thanks for sharing this.

Yeah right? That seemed to be the most important part, how did he not specify that!?

Right, it's unusable without being able to do that.
Hold shift and then select with the mouse the area you want to cut out
how can you export from OSM of just selected layers? this would be super useful..

I actually unchecked it at minute 1:55, but the marker only appears for sharing a link or HTML, the marker does not appear in exported SVG files.
