@@ThatGuyOnTheInternetAndMore Yes, they're an incredibly political punk band and always have been. Why wouldn't politics come up? It's what I've always loved about Green Day. Remember when they brought Pansy Division on tour with them because they despised the jock-filled, conservative void that their audiences had become as they grew more popular? It was brilliant to watch those intolerant conservative meatheads forced to deal with an incredibly-in-your-face gay punk band :D
Agreed. And 'politics' was like 3 lines in 3 songs. He didn't make any commentary from the stage etc. They're a bit right-wing for me, but I don't mind them speaking their mind.
Billie Joe has a good voice for the music Green Day makes. His voice is distinctive and iconic in pop punk/ pop culture at this point. You hear his voice and you know it's Green Day or Billie Joe (depending on if he does something solo like he did during covid or features as he's done). There are way worse vocalists doing punk music and way better but he's used his voice and songwriting with Green Day to become a legend at this point in the industry.
Exactly right. The band Kansas isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, because they have religious tones to their later songs. Which shows it's only political. If you are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today, it means you are a left wing sell out. You are not talented, you are a useful member of the cult. Congrats to Green Day, You are in a Marxist cult.
BJA & Adrienne were married 14 days before me, and that month it was Dookie that sucked me in. I was 25. My son was born days before American Idiot was released. Twenty years later I was at a GD show last summer and during the long wait before they came out - a bit buzzed & high - I just started belting Basket Case and got what must have been 1000 people singing. It was like a wave. I see myself in each of them, amd their music keeps me younger and happier. "Still Breathing" came along 60 days after I was set to take my life and it snapped me out of it. I love them.
She said might lol. He will and probably has been doing things to help keep his voice in a healthier state but she is right that techniques hes using commonly cause issues for rock vocalists down the line. Hence you'll hear a lot of them having to get surgery to remove vocal nodes, having to take longer breaks inbetween tours or having to switch up their singing style and hiring a vocal instructor full time
His voice is perfect for his songs. Couldn’t imagine him singing anything else, or anyone covering Green Day. Could say the same of many punk type bands. Take Ginger Wildheart for example.
He has a couple of other bands. Pinhead Gunpowder, Foxboro Hot Tubs, The Longshot and a cover band called The Coverups. Check them out as he sings a wide range of different genres.
American Idiot was done on Broadway. So it's very interesting to hear the difference between a classically trained, professional singer performing these songs vs the guy who came up in the east bay punk scene of Oakland CA in the 80s. As a longtime Green Day fan, it sounds like the edge has been sanded off the songs with the "better" vocalist from Broadway. That unique tone from Billie Joe adds character to the overall sound of the songs in a way I didn't notice until I heard the other versions.
He did hop in at least once and sing St Jimmy with them ;) Suwww.youtube.cch a distinctive voice that just cuts though everything ruclips.net/video/p7GPiX3anGg/видео.html
This is their paycheck anthem that fills arenas and venues worldwide. It's a combination of the band giving it everything and also to make it into a karaoke song along with the band. Green Day have never forgotten about the importance of crowd participation. So to belt it out on that one paycheck song is not a bad thing to do 👍🎶🎸
They have like 10 paycheck songs. Basket case, when I come around, Longview, welcome to paradise, brain stew, time of your life, minority, American idiot, Jesus of suburbia, holiday, wake me up when September ends, 21 guns, and this song
Billie Joe has a couple sides of him, he can sing in a high baritone almost tenor voice similar to John Lennon or sing a bit deeper and darker like his early work in Dookie.
First two Green Day concert were in 1994 and I've loved them ever since. Warning is one of my favorite albums by Green Day....the most punk thing they ever did IMO.
This performance was so special. Billie Joe had been to rehab after the I heart radio incident. We all thought the band was over and they came back. Always makes cry.
He can sing circles around just about anybody while playing guitar and jumping up and down. I got lucky and saw him in the Broadway production, so good! The new album is epic, GO SEE THEM LIVE! I do, again and again, since that first $12 show that was a fundraiser. Thank the Green Day, making me shake since 90'!

Billie Joe really changed the way he sings. Just compare between 90's and post American Idiot live shows. Those nasal sounds were pretty accentuated back then. He is a much more professional singer now.
This enitre album is a beautiful piece of art. The story told, the songs still resonate today. He's an amazing performer, a great singer, and doing it now for the better part of 30 years. I remember buying Dookie as a kid, going home and listening to the whole thing thinking how good it was and they only got better.
Couple of things. It’s not tech issues they were playing live on BBC 3 and they muted the swear words. For this performance he was pretty drunk and later went into rehab. They played Dookie in its entirety at this gig for the 21st anniversary. Dookie and American Idiot are both celebrating their 30th and 20th anniversaries this year. They have just released their new album Saviors and they are still amazing. Can’t wait for the tour in June as they are playing both Dookie and American Idiot live in their entirety at every tour date.
