Nice video. You had a fun sail. Island Packet was faster than I would have expected. Instructor was quite good..... I'll be keeping an eye out at the grocery store.... Langford is my neighborhood....
We had a very similar storm, in fairly close position end of May as we started our trip around the Delmarva. Ours was a bit more interesting as we were in our Gozzard 36 and the wind was from the stern. We ran with just a small handkerchief of the stay sail and motor in idle. Wind alarm sounded over and over with big swells trying to catch us but we just keep on moving as if there was nothing going on. There is good reason they call our boat a blue water, 20,000# and solid as a rock.
Tom, I compare your video's title, the two storm fronts, the NWS small boat advisory, and your footage traversing the front, to Captain Tursi's pedestrian log entry: "Wednesday; last three hours winds came up for a beautiful sail into Chesapeake Bay at Cape Charles..." (Chuckle). Am I interpreting the video properly that all the storm footage is from the first front and that you described the second front after-the-fact from your bunk?
The sail into Cape Charles was excellent…I guess that was Wednesday. We spent the night in Cape Charles and then sailed up the Chesapeake Thursday, that afternoon is when the storm hit. The second front Rita mentioned in the video never hit us. We actually had gorgeous sailing the rest of the way to Annapolis. Thank you for watching the video.
Since someone is definitely at the wheel during the blow, was wondering why you all didn’t just heave to till the storm passed. You seemed to have more than enough sea space.
We certainly could’ve done that. The good news was the seas were smooth. We essentially forereached through the whole thing. If we had more wind we would’ve had to take in another reef in the main. Check out the 108 video where we had more wind with heavier seas. Plus, it was fun 💁🏻♂️
The Island Packet is def Made for that Blow! Wow. Great prep! Capt Tom and Rita, great seeing you.
Thnx for the Vid! 👊🏼
Yes! They are fantastic people to learn from.

@@dansraspberrypisoftwarecla1690 absolutely true. Nice boat
Very cool! Thinking ahead and planning for safety makes sailing more fun. Nice job on the video. Tom Beckman
Indeed it does. Thank you.
Looking at the apparent wind numbers the IP was eating the gale for breakfast!
It’s a solid boat, very well thought out
I'm used to driving a stinkpot which is far more complex.
The secret to a pleasurable drive is to always keep your bilge topped off.
Were you sailing or motoring during the storm

Around the 19 minute mark just after I got my earplugs I started hurling.
Around the 25 minute mark, clearly they needed to step up their game to like a North Sea gale in winter........under sail.
"This is the life." 😅
It was a great trip! Tom Tursi is a great guy to learn from. The 108 trip with the Gale was also quite good.
Kinda weird to film people sleeping.
