You've got to remember these people fight demons for a living, they've seen horrors upon horrors, you can't blame them for not trusting what they have trained most of their lives to protect others against. Also they are not dismissing the master's wishes, they are simply testing Nezuko.
Also former Hashira do get replaced if one dies, but if you've become so old and lost your touch, or garnered an injury or illness, you can also just retire and have someone take your place, if there's anyone suitable that is.

All the hashira have their reasons to hate and despise demons you'll learn their backstories in later seasons. And Nezuko's case has never happened once in over a thousand years and none of the hashira has ever encountered a demon that didn't kill people. They respect the master yes but they're being asked to take the word of 3 people over the thousands that have been killed about something that can't be proven or disproven.

Tanjiro said "distinguish between good and bad demons", but for everyone else, all demons are bad, because ALL DEMONS eat people, whether they like it or not. For the Hashiras, that situation is like trying to reject a thousand years of (supposedly) immutable fact simply for a few people's personal desires.
And so what if she's really an exception? The situation for them can be compared to having a relative you don't have contact with (Tanjiro) or your mother/father (the Master) bringing a kid to live with you, but that kid has a loaded gun in his hands all the time, and they're trying to assure you that he won't do anything with it, and want you to accept living with that gun pointed to your head or to your family.
No matter how much they vouch for the kid or how much you trust them: just no.

The species's diet consists exclusively of humans and it is known for hunting us for sport with extreme cruelty. Oh and just for flavor, imagine that some of these animals brutally murdered people you loved.
Now imagine that some random kid comes to you, brings one with them and says "don't worry, this one doesn't bite 😄". You would need a LOT of convincing to believe them.

Sanemi was only attempting to do that to show his point, but in the end it showed he was wrong. The things to remember is he wasn't decapitating her, so she wouldn't die, instead by stabbing her it makes it so Nezuko gets hungrier from the exhaustion of regeneration, then the 2nd point that he has marechi blood, making it so it means Nezuko is essentially starving and presented with the best blood there is out there. By Nezuko not consuming any it was something to prove that she wouldn't eat someone.

  • @neotailz
    @neotailz Месяц назад +15

Gotta remember that Nezuko is an anomaly among demons. Think of all the brutal ways people have died at the hands of demons in previous episodes, to temporarily satiate their hunger, to gain power., or just for the sheer pleasure or out of callousness. That is 99.9% of demons, and it's the only kind of demon these Hashira and all the people they know have dealt with.
That being said, I think it's safe to say that the Demon Slayer Corps is an organization that is built on respect and merit. With the exception of the Master, it's led by people who have survived nearly impossible odds time and time again, who then pass on their wisdom and techniques to newer members. And so while the Hashira hold great respect for the Master, the Master also holds great respect for "his children" and values their opinions, even when they differ from his.

Just so you know Luke, the hashira's reaction to kill nezuko was correct as they have trained for the sole purpose of exterminating demons. There's no reason a rookie demon slayer carrying a demon should sway their motive of killing demons. Sanemi and Obanai are doing their job basically. Well now I can explain how the hashira work, (no spoilers)
The hashira is the highest rank in the demon slayer corps, this has never been stated but is implied that there can only be nine at ones.
The hashira are a whole another level compared to regular stayers and even our main gang.
To become a hashira you must reach the highest rank in the regular rankings which is Kinoe and kill 50 demons or one of the twelve in a 1v1.
All hashira report to the Master (Kagaya Ubayashiki) he doesn't fight himself but is respected by all is put at very high regard. Is the brains of the operations.
Each hashira is named with their breathing style like,
Giyu used Water breathing - Water hashira
    Flame breathing - Flame hashira
    Love breathing - Love hashira
At so on and so forth.
The hashira or any demon slayer for that matter, can retire if they either get to a certain age or sustain a major injury and can no longer fight on the front lines.
Each hashira covers a designated area covering the entire country. They are the most valuable resource to the corps and hence split across to look after everything. They are also required to petrol their area in case of potential demon and Kizuki (one of the twelve)

The reason why no one intervened when Sanemi and Obanai acted to prove Nezuko's Demon nature is simply because the master had offered them to do so. At around 22:00 Ubuyashiki (master) said "those who reject it must offer an even more convincing argument" when relating to the letter from Urokodaki.
Let's not forgot the weight that committing seppuku holds. It's an ancient tradition held in Japan aging back to the Edo period where someone would put that much faith and respect in their or those who they chose to trust in actions, that they will kill themselves if they are wrong to still show their loyalty and respect to their master upon disappointing them.
As for the Hashira not trusting the situation, Demons have been around for long before the Hashira have and it's likely that these guys have seen trauma like Tanjiro, and experienced it even more than that having to do it as a job every day at the highest level. These guys cannot be won over by a simple letter from another person. Urokodaki and Tomioka are exceptions as they have seen Nezuko prove herself.

  • @strawcold
    @strawcold Месяц назад +12

In Demon Slayer, they place a lot of importance on responsibility. By not killing Nezuko when they had the chance and actually sparing her, Tomioka and Urokodaki have basically taken the responsibility unto themselves for if Nezuko killed a human. It's because if they didn't do what they did, she wouldn't have been able to (IF she did at that point). Tanjiro also shares this responsibility as the one who carries her around and keeps her safe. So the very moment Giyu sheathed his blade in the 1st episode and chopped Nezuko on the neck, he had consigned himself to the promise to receive due punishment if his hypothesis regarding Nezuko and Tanjiro was wrong.
In technicality, one could also spread that responsibility to Zenitsu and Inosuke if one were to find out and be able to prove that they eventually chose to spare Nezuko and let Tanjiro keep carrying her around knowing full well she was a demon.
Also the 5 different senses thing just applies to the people who passed the Final Selection with Tanjiro because the author wanted it so. The Hashira here don't need to all have their own kind of sense. Though that doesn't mean not a single one of them has an enhanced sense (like how Urokodaki a former Hashira had enhanced smell).
Also the reason why the other Hashiras just stood by was because
    1) There's still the rule of fighting other demon slayers
    2) It would be disrespectful to the master to just make things MORE chaotic
    3) The master didn't tell the two to stop
    4) They're probably secretly curious about how it would all work out

I think your too biased because your following the main characters, imagine how many people watching their loved ones that were formally loyal turn into Demons and then try to devour them before their eyes.
I think its alright for them to be very skeptical.
And the Master asked them to offer a counter argument, and the test by the Wind Hashira was said counter argument.
It also makes sense they would be skeptical of Tanjiro who being the brother of said Demon isn't exactly Neutral and Objective in the situation.

The other two good demons, one had medical knowledge and special powers to modify herself to need less blood, remove Muzan's curse, and works in a profession where she can get the small amount of blood she needs, and then did the same to another Demon.
That is totally something not other demon's can do.
Its not a matter of "good" vs "bad" Demons, its that if your a Demon you NEED to eat Human Flesh and that'll happen sooner or latter, Nezuko is a very fringe outlier.

Alright, here are my comments for this episode!
Your reaction to Sanemi was *amazing*, and I most definitely cackled at your sarcasm. He really does look calm and collected, doesn't he? I appreciated your commentary regarding Shinobu being scary and surprised at how neutral her angry face was.
I also agree that Sanemi was out of line. It isn't so much his desire for proof (which, as someone who has read the manga, strikes me as a little heartbreaking; I think it's just my interpretation of the Wind Hashira, though) that doesn't sit right with me, but rather the "experiment". There's no way to create a legitimate one as Nezuko is the only demon like this that's been seen in the Demon Slayer world, but I still think stabbing her like he did tipped the scales to his desired result. This is unfair to Nezuko and Tanjiro in equal measure. (Not to mention Tomioka and Urokodaki; if she does attack him, then what?)
That said, the Wind Hashira took the experiment into the Master's home. It was likely that if another Hashira intervened, damage would be caused. Given how much respect they have for the master, it's natural they did nothing here. I suspect curiosity played an equally sized part of the reason for the inaction when he bled on the box at the start, though.
Stellar reaction, as always. 🎉🎉🎉 I hope you continue to have fun with this series! By the way, could you mention when the poll for movie versus anime will take place again? I forgot. ;^.^

For many Demon Slayer and the other corps members, the existence of Nezuko is the one thing they absolutely cannot accept.
Many have not just lost loved ones to the demons, but had to see their loved ones becme demons and kill even other members of their family.
Nezuko's existence being accepted means several things.
For one that there could have been a way to save those loved ones.
Secondly it is also a statement to their bonds being inferior to the one Nezuko shared with her loved ones as her bonds were strong enough to overcome the effects of the demon transformation to a degree.

Sakonji Urokodaki retired because he is just too old to fight like he used to and became the cultivator of Water Breathing because he wanted to pass on his knowledge of Water Breathing to others. Jigoro Kuwajima (Zenitsu's Gramps) retired because his right leg got sliced by a demon from the knee up at age 35. That is also why he has a peg leg and a cane in the flashbacks

They did that because they hated Demon so much, that they trained and became a Hashira (highest position in the Demon slayer corp)
12:23 when Sanemi said "Demon fighting for Demon Slayer is a Total Delusion." We can understand that they have never seen anything like that.
And we can see that they do respect Master a lot, but they won't go against their morals; even if Master said so. That's why Sanemi said, Tanjiro can be forgiven, but not the Demon (Nezuko).

Originally Kibutsuji was not planned to be revealed so early in the manga, but due to the slowing sales of the manga and declining popularity the author (Koyoharu Gotouge) chose to have tanjiro meet him early on in the story in order to regain attention back to the manga and now we have mulitple seasons of an amazing anime.

  • @halfasleepalex
    @halfasleepalex Месяц назад

The thing about the hashira is, despite their personalities and beliefs, all of them are fighting for the greater good. Nobody becomes a hashira out of greed, whether it be lust for power, or desire for fame and fortune. All of them have had to go through hellish experiences over the course of many years to get this high, and despite the immense amount of power they have in the corps, nobody abuses it. They all exist to serve their purpose in the war against demons and don't see their roles in the world as anything more than that.
The reason they are like this is because nearly all of them have had a traumatic life experience involving a demon, similar to Tanjiro, which caused them to join the corps in the first place. Out of all of the 9 hashira, Sanemi (wind hashira) has probably had it rough. Not only what happened to him before he joined the corps, but after he joined it as well. The horrors he has experience in life might be worse than what Tanjiro has went through. He has seen the most vile things done by demons and it's difficult for him to accept a demon as a good guy after all he has went through with them.
It's not so much that he disrespects the master's judgement as much as that he can't accept it without proof that overrides experience.

But overall I like the Hashira though, but at this part of the series it did take me awhile for them to grow on me as antagonistic as they were in the beginning. 13:50 Love Hashira snorting at the wind hashira getting head butted by a rookie like Tanjiro always cracks me up😂
The Tomioka and Urokodaki revelation about committing Seppuku made the fandom so dang emotional at the time this ep aired. We know it's out of a sense of responsibility, because if Nezuko kills someone, that's a life forever lost, and as it was Tomioka and Urokodaki's choices that let her live, therefore any humans' death by her hands would fall onto their shoulders. But we also know it's more than mere responsibility; these 2 seemed to have really grown attached, with full faith in Tanjiro and Nezuko being ''special''.
Keep in mind how it's also revealed that Michael Jackson put a Hit target on Tanjiro, and that he'll be sending demons to ''kill the demon slayer with the long earrings''. Could be because his identity was exposed, but could also be related to that flashback to another demon slayer with those same earrings which made him angry. No spoilers, just food for thoughts.
