I loved how Giyu took out the demon. After the big climactic moment Tanjiro and Nezuko had, Giyu getting it done so quickly simultaneously showed how much further Tanjiro has to go with his skills to approach that hashira level but also didn't overshadow the emotional impact of the previous episode.
Sarah again with the correcting "I won" to "we won." We've been through this with Hinata in Haikyuu, but Japanese doesn't work the same as English. Often sentences will just omit the subject. Tanjiro just says 「勝った」"katta" -> "(I/We) won" so honestly the translator is the one giving all the credit to Tanjiro.
Exactly this. Japanese very often just omits the subject in a sentence, which is grammatically correct in that language, and we just have to interpolate the subject by context. It's the translator that decided to make the subject "I" in that sentence, but Tanjiro could very well meant to say "we". It is a highly contextual language.

And if a Hashira struggles to defeat the lowest ranking demons of the 12 Kidzuki, the Lower Moon Five, how do you expect them to defeat the Upper Moons or even think of going after Kibutsuji Muzan? It makes sense, if you think about it that Giyu can and should be able to defeat Rui with relative ease, or the Corps is already dead.

Also it is a more "realistic" way to aproach things because it is more in tune with being at the start of tanjiro's journey and will reflect on his main strenghts which are pisitive thinking, work ethic and adaptability.

The sister demon that died in the flashback did indeed state that they all wanted was companions like Adam said, BUT states it because of their physical weaknesses and fear of demon slayers. The only reason they follow Rui is because he gave them strength and, unfortunately, something even greater to fear than demon slayers, to the point the mother demon would've preferred to die than live in this "pretend family". Rui on the other hand had nothing to fear and was the only one who genuinely desired familial bonds as Sarah observed, but completely failed because of his selfish, one-sided perspective of family. Believing everyone should serve him, he only ever took, dismissing Tanjiro entirely as he attempted to steal Nezuko without ever understanding how much they gave for each other, something that makes them a real family. Awesome reaction again! Always such a great time :)
This episode is interesting because it showed how some demons are "prey" because they are weaker while the demon slayers are "predators". And this shows how "human" some of the demons remain to be (ex. Wanting to feel safe and belong in a community). And I was reminded that many of them did not really ask to be a demon but they got turned into one without consent nor concern for their well-being. So for me, this highlights how truly cruel Muzan is.
I mean, I know we were ripping on Zenitsu for being a coward and scared, etc, but for normal people, that is totally expected. I guess there has to be something pathological for someone to run head-on into danger without even thinking.
So about the failure to get the kill from Tanjiro - it shows a concept of the wrong mindset - Tanjiro swung, fully willing to trade his life for the demon and that is why he fails. He doesnt go for a win, he goes for a draw, so the demon wins out. This is a stark contrast to Gyiu who doesnt take any sacrifices, he is calm and collected, taking the path of least resistance. It also shows the difference in experience - dont forget Tanjiro has been doing this for 3? years now? If I count the training. Gyiu has probably twice if not three times that much and on top of that is the very tip of the best demon slayers. Its not too surprising high number lower moon is a pushover to him. The premise of Gyiu walking up is not that the demon is shocked or something - as far as I can tell the premise behind "dead calm" is that he is so fluid in his motions, it looks as if he is staying still and the demon doesnt even realize what is happening - chances are he might not even notice Gyiu moving towards him maybe (this is purely speculation from dissecting the scene)
Without going into detail that would be spoilery...Dead Calm is a technique that requires the user to as the name suggests...they enter a zen like state. Their thoughts, feelings and muscles all relax and make their movements imperceptible to their attacker. And due to that confusion they can move in quick bursts. It's an attack that only works when Giyu is able to relax and without a state of agitation.
Shinobu being Adam's new favorite wasn't something I expected, but it does make me happy. 💙 His assessment of how disparate the power level between the Hashira and the rest of our crew is, is on point as well. I can understand Sarah's frustrations with how it felt like it somehow lessened Tanjiro's achievements in this fight, to have the Hashira come and clean it up afterward. That said, notice how much further our boys were able to go in their fights, compared to the other demonslayers that were already present on the mountain. They made great strides toward improvement, but they just weren't at the level of taking down one of the lower moons just yet. Tanjiro and Nezuko's power combined did get him quite close to beating Rui, which is still a huge feat for a low level demonslayer like himself. Don't worry Sarah, our boys are still developing!
I think every demon has a sob story because kibutsuji targeted ppl it's weaknesses, it shows how cruel of a reality this world is and how ruthless muzan is
Rui never had a chance to run away since Giyuu is fast, doesn't look like it but he is; remember he tied Inosuke up in a few seconds without him even realizing he was being tied up

There are powerful demons like the Kizuki, and there are powerful demon slayers like the Hashira. Tanjiro is not really ranked very high on the Corps right now, and he doesn't have that many experiences to fight with demons, but Hashira is different. I believe to become a Hashira you need to kill one of the twelve Kizuki or kill 50 demons at some level (if I'm wrong please correct me). So Tanjiro and Giyu's skills and experiences aren't really in the same range. Giyu even got his personal creation form, the 11th form. It's a form where the user ceases all body movements and enters a state of complete tranquility, deflecting, blocking and cutting any incoming attacks with imperceptible speed with his blade (I got this description from the Kimetsu No Yaiba Wiki). Even though you don't see his blade moving, it's actually moving at a rapid pace😂😂 The Twelve Kizuki are divided into six Upper Ranks and six Lower Ranks with one being the strongest and six being the weakest. Rui is Lower Rank Five （be like the 11th of 12 Kizuki). His rank is not that high, so it's possible for Giyu to kill him very easily.
I know it's a little early, but when you get to the Mugen Train arc, just watch the movie in one go. As far as I know, it covers the entire arc/season and is more compact.
Adam if you like this arc…. Ooof just wait for the next ones. This is one of my least favourite arcs, not because its bad, it’s great but because all the other ones just get better & better!

its like difference in power level giyu can easily 1v1 a upper rank and rui was lower 5 so if the power difference is too much u will loose instantly look at the slayers killed by rui they died instantly
With the previous episode i was hyped and this one leave me shocked. Not only that Rui still alive also Giyuu skills and techniques to be capable of kill him. This show how powerful a hashira is and how much Tanjiro has to improve. You can see how fast Rui was to cut his own head before Tanjiro and Giyuu in a blink reach him and cut his head
I've always assumed that the ease with which Giyu appears to kill Rui is related to him still being in Dead Calm because otherwise Rui's slow reaction doesn't make sense.
This is our first look at how much further in skill and ability Tanjiro is from the top of the Demon Slayer Corps, which are the Hashira. Remember that he hasn’t had a decisive win that he came out of unscathed. That’s the skill difference and I couldn’t have asked for a better display and reminder of it.
😅 Sarah being confused by the gap in strength and power. It happens often when watching shounen/fighting anime. It's a lot of fun seeing how both of your reactions differ when Giyu made that look so easy. Tanjiro is currently at the lowest level rank in the corp: Mizunoto (rank 10). Kinoe being rank 1 and above that are Hashira which is Giyu's rank.

While even to this day I do still have a similar response to Rui surviving the previous episode to get quickly beheaded here, I love the music that plays when Giyu shows up enough to tolerate it.
When (IF) you can stop to think that Tanjiro is still ranked lower than a lot of the Demon Slayers that got killed on that mountain and that the Hashira are the highest ranking officers of the Demon Slayer corps, it is not all that shocking. The Hashira are supposed to be hunting down Muzan and his 12 Kidzuki, and to be strong enough to defeat and/or hold their own against powerful demons. And if they are shown struggling against the lowest ranking of the 12, I would stop watching at that very moment! This is the first season Tanjiro isn’t supposed to be strong enough, but he and Nezuko needed to be near death to figure out the Hingorani Kagura and the Blood Demon Arts. Like Shinobu said in the previous episode, humans’ lives flash before their eyes when they are close to death so they can try to find something from their life experiences that can help them escape death. For Zenitsu it was his Trainer for Tanjiro it was his Dad’s words and the Hinokami Kagura. This was the perfect way to deal with the Rui situation and show us where Tanjiro now stands, what he has gained and how far he must go to achieve his goal. It sets everything out so clearly. I don’t get your thinking. I don’t get what continues to baffle you that you can only “tolerate” the episode.
You guys should read the interviews of the hashiras/ other characters by the author after you catch up. Because it will be cool information about the characters that helps you appreciate them more
If yall want an absolutely amazing story that triggers every emotion you can think of…attack on Titan!! Attack on Titan has the best story ever imo!! Adam would definitely enjoy it if he’s a big story person!! The basket ball behind them always makes me think of attack on titan cuz of the name on it! lol. It’s probably hands down one of the most insane stories I’ve ever heard from any show/movie that’s anime or not! I truly hope yall enjoy demon slayer, it’s a beautifully animated show and we will be getting to the end of the story soon! Yall still have a ways to go to get caught up but when ya do you won’t have to wait very long for the end!

You see all the demon slayers are deeply distrubed in their own ways. including tanjiro (especially tanjiro). Zenitsu is the only normal one

There are powerful demons like the Kizuki, and there are powerful demon slayers like the Hashira. Tanjiro is not really ranked very high on the Corps right now, and he doesn't have that many experiences to fight with demons, but Hashira is different. I believe to become a Hashira you need to kill one of the twelve Kizuki or kill 50 demons at some level (if I'm wrong please correct me). So Tanjiro and Giyu's skills and experiences aren't really in the same range.
Giyu even got his personal creation form, the 11th form. It's a form where the user ceases all body movements and enters a state of complete tranquility, deflecting, blocking and cutting any incoming attacks with imperceptible speed with his blade (I got this description from the Kimetsu No Yaiba Wiki). Even though you don't see his blade moving, it's actually moving at a rapid pace😂😂
The Twelve Kizuki are divided into six Upper Ranks and six Lower Ranks with one being the strongest and six being the weakest. Rui is Lower Rank Five （be like the 11th of 12 Kizuki). His rank is not that high, so it's possible for Giyu to kill him very easily.

I know it's a little early, but when you get to the Mugen Train arc, just watch the movie in one go. As far as I know, it covers the entire arc/season and is more compact.
I personally would say don’t watch the movie, watch the arc at it’s fullest. I think it gives more depth and not rushing through it.

No, Sarah you are misinterpreting the scene I think, he didn’t just sit there stunned because it got slashed. Giyu was so calm and subtle his movements to kill the demon weren’t able to be noticed by the demon in a time to be able to react to them, like that all happened in a fraction of a second.

its like difference in power level giyu can easily 1v1 a upper rank and rui was lower 5 so if the power difference is too much u will loose instantly look at the slayers killed by rui they died instantly
With the previous episode i was hyped and this one leave me shocked. Not only that Rui still alive also Giyuu skills and techniques to be capable of kill him. This show how powerful a hashira is and how much Tanjiro has to improve.

I've always assumed that the ease with which Giyu appears to kill Rui is related to him still being in Dead Calm because otherwise Rui's slow reaction doesn't make sense.
In universe, it's not that Rui's reaction is slow, but Giyu is too fast for him

This is our first look at how much further in skill and ability Tanjiro is from the top of the Demon Slayer Corps, which are the Hashira. Remember that he hasn’t had a decisive win that he came out of unscathed. That’s the skill difference and I couldn’t have asked for a better display and reminder of it.
You guys should watch demon slayer season 2 after season 1 rather than the movie version because season 2 is not rushed and gives us more details. 🎉
😅 Sarah being confused by the gap in strength and power. It happens often when watching shounen/fighting anime. It's a lot of fun seeing how both of your reactions differ when Giyu made that look so easy.
Tanjiro is currently at the lowest level rank in the corp: Mizunoto (rank 10). Kinoe being rank 1 and above that are Hashira which is Giyu's rank.

I love Shinobu. Her character is so well written and so relatable. Aside from you know who, she's my favorite in the entire story.

While even to this day I do still have a similar response to Rui surviving the previous episode to get quickly beheaded here, I love the music that plays when Giyu shows up enough to tolerate it.
When (IF) you can stop to think that Tanjiro is still ranked lower than a lot of the Demon Slayers that got killed on that mountain and that the Hashira are the highest ranking officers of the Demon Slayer corps, it is not all that shocking. The Hashira are supposed to be hunting down Muzan and his 12 Kidzuki, and to be strong enough to defeat and/or hold their own against powerful demons. And if they are shown struggling against the lowest ranking of the 12, I would stop watching at that very moment! This is the first season Tanjiro isn’t supposed to be strong enough, but he and Nezuko needed to be near death to figure out the Hingorani Kagura and the Blood Demon Arts. Like Shinobu said in the previous episode, humans’ lives flash before their eyes when they are close to death so they can try to find something from their life experiences that can help them escape death. For Zenitsu it was his Trainer for Tanjiro it was his Dad’s words and the Hinokami Kagura. This was the perfect way to deal with the Rui situation and show us where Tanjiro now stands, what he has gained and how far he must go to achieve his goal. It sets everything out so clearly. I don’t get your thinking.

If yall want an absolutely amazing story that triggers every emotion you can think of…attack on Titan!! Attack on Titan has the best story ever imo!! Adam would definitely enjoy it if he’s a big story person!! The basket ball behind them always makes me think of attack on titan cuz of the name on it! lol. It’s probably hands down one of the most insane stories I’ve ever heard from any show/movie that’s anime or not! I truly hope yall enjoy demon slayer, it’s a beautifully animated show and we will be getting to the end of the story soon! Yall still have a ways to go to get caught up but when ya do you won’t have to wait very long for the end!
