There are not many players anymore who I can listen to them noodling for 30 minutes, and just trip out on the sheer beauty of their lovely musicality and melodic choices - just a wonderful player and musician.
Love your playing man, very encouraging and inspirational. God bless you !!
You are a killer player Guthrie, thank you for your time and help. You are very inspiring bud. Keep'em coming.
I love your own to earth style and the fact you are the real one without hiding behind your gear but rather using it and best of all teaching the real deal. Thank you. Again most grateful for you sharing your knowledge.
Thanks, Guthrie! That’s helpful wisdom you’re putting out!
Ted Heaberlin Thanks man!

Fantastic lesson Guthrie! Always appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge! Awesome playing, sounds great!
Brad Revland Thanks a bunch man!! Means a lot.
You make a fantastic point. I spent so much time tweaking everything while taking away from playing and my practice.
I loved what you said in the beginning of this video. Yes, you need working gear BUT It's not the wand, it's the magician ! Blues On.... 💙
HUTCHfromBA Thanks man!! Indeed!
Thanks for the videos! There are alot of lessons on the internet but yours are my favorite 🎸🎶
Thanks a bunch man!!
Awesome video! I learned a lot. You made me realize a lot of things I was doing wrong and right. Thanks a lot ! I appreciate it!
Guy Bravata Great! Thanks man!
Great to see you back! As always, appreciate the solid 'functional' advice.
Thank you!!
Love your tone. Your melodic style and playing around the chord changes is what really makes me a big fan your guitar playing. Thanks so much for sharing this information and your playing with us.
Sellarmusic Thanks a bunch man!!
Thanks for the video Guthrie. Man I just love the way you play and appreciate your insights. Cheers mate
Jonathon Hunt Thanks man!!
God Bless you man, you conduct yourself in a very professional manner and i respect that. You take what you do VERY seriously, which anyone who loves the craft should. Its easily seen you love what you do, and do what's necessary to not take away from the beauty of the craft. God bless you sir, I appreciate old school guys like you, they're a rare breed 👍🏽
Thanks for sharing your settings , I've been fighting the low amp , low guitar balance for years . keep'em coming I'm subscribing .
Thanks for the private session. The chance to see you just riffing away , that's really great stuff.
Great tone and how to get it, also great stuff.
Thank you
Home Guitar Player Thanks a bunch man!! Happy to help !
As always the joy in your playing (as well as acknowledging your imperfections) and the whole approach is so good, humble and honest it makes me smile. Priceless playing and information from a real gentleman. Thanks
Willet Lussenden Thanks a bunch man!! Means a lot for sure.
Absolutely brilliant mate. Thanks so much.
what a great player, A wonderful lesson on setting realistic settings, well done!
Thanks man!!
Priceless wisdom--there are so many amps and pedals that having a pro walk through what players should listen for is just dead on.
Fantastic tone man...every time I watch one of your videos and hear you play makes me want to play...thanks for the inspiration Guthrie. Cheers Marty from Melbourne.
Martin Gale Thanks a bunch man!!
I never get tired of your playing but man you really put out some honest and great content! By far my favorite stuff to watch on RUclips, even if it’s really basic stuff, it’s great reminders and I like to hear your philosophy on things.
Big Country Platinum Thanks a bunch man!! Means a lot.
awesome video, so awesome for Guthrie to share this stuff with us common folks :)
Thanks for coming back Guthrie...I appreciate your influence and love your style sir! Thanks again!!!!
David guitar madman Thanks a bunch!!
It's all about the guitar/amp relationship for the foundation of tone. Guthrie does a great job explaining and demonstrating that. It's amazing how many people think that you get your tone through pedals - pedals are just spices. Great job Guthrie.
Thanks again. Great amount of information. These are the primary lesson that you would like to know from that starting point. Lot to think about with my own gear.
Mikko Takala Thanks a bunch man! Good luck with it all!
Good to hear you again. I just bought a handwired Fender Deluxe Reverb. Sounds great and a nice change from the Marshall tone I'm used to. Your a great influence and teacher.
detroitstinks1 Very Cool. Thanks a bunch man!!
Great & and very practical lesson. Thank you Guthrie.
Carmine Anastasio Thanks man!!
I'm glad you're back! You've been missed. Great topic..digging the headstock too.
Russ Hicks Thanks man!!
The basics are so easy to forget and so incredibly important! Your playing is superb
Thanks a bunch man!!
Thank you Guthrie for sharing you're wisdom. I've started yo play with the round side of the pick and remember you commenting on it on a video which helped me to make the decision.
becraul Great! Thanks man!!
Well I know what I’m doing for the next 20 mins. \m/ thanks man! Awesome playing!
Thanks man!!
Your tone and playing are awesome! Thanks for sharing!
david brown Thanks man!!
fantastic thanks Guthrie!!
Guthrie, I appreciate you, learned a lot from this, and I just subscribed. It took me many years of playing to realize that tone was in a sense the most important thing (well IMHO). If it sounds beautiful to the listener, and is melodic, I have found that's what touches their heart, and they are not gonna care that it isn't a lot of notes and super fast shredding like you hear nowadays. Of course, a Fender tube amplifier and a 335 never hurt either - a good recipe starts with good ingredients. But you are a great "musical chef" and what you deliver is super tasty. And, what you did with that simple B flat minor to A to E progression from Wicked Game at the end of the video - WOW - it was a very valuable lesson in and of itself!
Happy to see you again...Kind regards from France Guthrie !!!
Belo Blues Thanks man!!!
I love your approach to tone and effects~subtle. Noticeable but no where near over powering. Thanks for doing a video like this. Best wishes!
Noitpure Thanks a bunch man! Glad you liked it.
Master of melody. Thanks G-man 👍
happy your back guthrie!
Thanks man!! Me too!
I'm sorry to say that I haven't heard your music before but now i have you've got a total fan. Time to search out your catalogue and get some new music in my collection !
Thanks man!!
What a helpful, practical lesson video. Thank you so much! Subscribed!!
Guthrie, you're back. I was just going back through your videos yesterday and wondering when a new one was coming. Glad to see all is well. Great timing, finally got a new amp this week. Your videos have been a huge inspiration. Thanks Guthrie.
Awesome! Thanks a bunch man!!
Yea, always happy to see a GT vid in my notices.
Appreciate it Brother! This is encouraging and it certainly proves that "practice pays off"!! Thanks again... jp
Jim Poston Yes it does! Thanks man!
Guthrie - you make my day dude... I am concerned that you have a video set up in my house, because this, like other of your videos is exactly what I have been struggling with. I have a sweet PRRI and I always suck with starting at a good clean tone and then working OD without creating too much volume. You have inspired me to get back at it. Love you playing guitar and talking tone and hints on playing better. Thanks a million from Northern Virginia!
Bryan Connor Thanks fo watching man!!
Guthrie, your a constant inspiration! We hear you down in the 'Boro. Keep those sweet licks coming..
Grant Dickey Thanks man!!
Man, great video. I find your tones…desirable. I’m playing around with this stuff all the time and I loved your discussion on volume or ‘throughput’ balance!
Valuable insight, Guthrie! Thanks!
Thanks man!!
Awesome. The Wicked Game playing at the end was inspiring. Gotta learn that CAGED system inside and out. Keep hammering on it. Thanks!
Excellent video, it’s the content that counts. You have great integrity and that really comes across right from the outset of you speaking and that what followers want. Your iPhone works just fine!
WADGE GRZELAK Thanks a bunch man!! Means a lot. 😎👍🎶
This was very helpful as I"m currently waiting for my Fender 68 Custom Princeton Reverb, my first real tube amp. Now I have a much better Idea of how to achieve a buttery bluesy tone. Cheers GT! Thanks so much.
Great!! Thanks man!
That was a great lesson on dialling in your tone! Thank you!
Makes sense. I did a little adjusting to my Fender amp clean, as I watched. It's so easy to neglect the amp settings and focus on pedal settings. I turned up the reverb also. I had it on 2 and moved it to 4. Come to think of it I always end up adding more reverb in my recordings when I mix them, so it needed more. I like it too. Keep 'em coming Guthrie!
autocrow Awesome!! Yea man!! You’ll love it.
Man. Thank you. GREAT tones, great control, great player.
David Shepard Thanks man!!
@@guthrietrappmusic I really do appreciate the effort you are making. Been a player since I was a kid, play in a band now, and constantly learning, chasing tone, chasing phrases. I married a lady who's a gifted country singer, making me a country guitar player (which, as a rock guy from So Cal, has been a breathtaking, humbling experience!).
Super great advice as always Guthrie and thanks for the Video, such a good common sense approach.
Thanks a bunch man!!
Thanks, Guthrie. Really like the videos.
ResponseAudio Thanks man!
Dear Guthrie, Glad to have you back! You were my inspiration to get a custom built Telecaster, which I did. I ordered one from Bob Logan without breaking the bank. I gather Nashville was one busy place these days! I hope business was good! Anyway, even in this video, you’re fluidity is exceptional. Thanks for being so generous, that keeps me going! All the best!
Very cool man! Thanks a bunch! Its crazy here now for sure!!
Guthrie, wow dude! You are such an incredible musician👍😃 truly an inspiration to watch and enjoy!!!
Steve Larsen Thanks a bunch man!!
Really good points!
Super association, thanks a bunch Guthrie man !
Love you Guthrie! Always such suggest of wisdom whenever I watch your videos. Love your content, and your playing is always so tasty. Thanks Brother!
Isaac Johnson Thanks a bunch man!!!
nice closing nod to the great guitar tone in wicked game!
I lov any video u put out cuz ur a genuine guy and it really comes through...and unintentionally funny (the best kind). Anyhoo great stuff emphasizing ITS THE PLAYING not more gear that's the point of all this...thanks
Well thank you man!! Means a lot.
Great example of moving around using the CAGED system uitlising the chord progression of the Chris Isaac classic "Wicked Game"........... sounded nice Guthrie.
Kieran O'Loughlin Thanks man!!!
Great lesson about a real tube tone, absolutely true!!!
Thank you very much!!!
Marc Ludemann Thanks man!!
I really like this Guthrie - Thanks!
Thanks man!!
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Guthrie over there in East Nashville for a private lesson. What a great guy and what great informative, extensive lesson. If you've been thinking of it, do it!
Another great lesson here Guthrie. Thanks
Tony Mikolich That was fun Tony! Thanks for the great testimonial. Cheers!
I just stumbled on your channel and I'm absolutely blown away! What beautifully melodic player and such a sweet tone.
This is a really important lesson for all of us to get that fundamental tone together with the guitar and amp before you even step on an effect pedal. Thanks for the upload!
One of my best friend's named Steve Bishop lived down in Nashville for a number of years. He passed away tragically around 7 years ago.
If you heard Steve play you would remember him! He was actually on vintage guitar magazine's top 10 best unknown guitar players in the world. Did you happen to know him?
I have few amps and I was unable to setup my black face stile amp with pedals for a good sound. After this video, I got my 335 and followed suggested steps and it works just fine, with my strat and tele also. Thanks Guthrie!
Marcelo de Melo Figueiredo Great man!! Thanks a bunch!
Once again, a helpful, pragmatic, down to earth little tutorial on how to do something really basic. Surprising how many "experienced" players will completely miss the mark on stuff like this. Your advice is always well placed, and the many positive comments show how much it is appreciated. It certainly is by me.
Colin Bradley Thanks man!! Really appreciate it !!
Guitar players need more videos like this to help with quality tone creating. It can be such an overwhelming task when you're new to the world of electric guitar especially.
Chris Guitarist Teacher/Performer Thanks man!! I agree!
One of the best guitar related YT channels!
JulianFernandez Thank you!!!
I just love what the RC booster adds to my tone. The white RC first version is the only pedal that have followed me since it came out. Sometimes I turn the amp a bit to high up, and then tame it with the RC. Great great pedal... :-) And you Sire, is a great inspiration to me...
Vintage Fenders will never die. You represent them so well.
Great stuff. I'm just a home player, but this kind of stuff is interesting for me. Thanks.
Adam thanks man!
Very nice. Thanks for sharing with us!
Tim Chauvin thanks man!!
Thanks a million for this Guthrie, and all of your videos. Just discovered this one on my feed when I was thinking about tone, so RUclips is listening to my brain
Another great video! (Trying to learn) Saint Tommy B off Pick Peace got me to love my Tele. It's always nice to have a master break down their approach.
atquinn1975 Cool man!! Thanks a bunch!!
Thank You Guthrie, Fan here from Philippines 🇵🇭 ...stay safe
An excellent example showing that the player's fingers are THE most important component of the overall tonal quality.
Thank you for all your remarks, suggestions and guidelines, much appreciated, really; and all the best in everything you undertake.
Tomasz Klimkiewicz Thanks so much man! Means a lot.
Great tips 👍🎸
Sounds fantastic, keeping it simple, letting the guitar shine through and small enhancements. Absolutely love this approach, simple proven toneful amp, a couple of well chosen pedals for a bit of variety and you're ready for pretty much any gig and guaranteed to sound great. Looking forward to the Telecaster approach, especially as I'm on rhe hunt for my first Tele afer playing Strats for 40 years!
pgod1960 Thanks a bunch man!! Tele is the same set up and approach. Just more amp volume, less treble and more bass. Tone and volume knob on guitar wide open.
Guthrie Trapp Really appreciate the response, Guthrie and the ton of wisdom borne of experience that you share. Thanks, man.
Making movies folks !!! And they are damn good movies dude. Can't get enough of your lessons and down right fantastic teaching. Rock on
Great video! You're playing is beautiful....if it wasn't for the 4000 mile round trip I'd come to one of your gigs! Keep up the good work my friend 👌
Thanks man!!
Nice chops.
Yea I actually went down in size on the pedals I don’t use many effects I love your statement about that can be a distraction very true .. just want to learn more everyday and let my hands be where majority of my tone comes from
Robert Richter Thanks for watching man!! That’s it! Simple is really best most times.
Maestro! You don't need any fancy camera or editing equipment. Your videos are Top notch.
And the playing and tone... Awesome!
Thanks a bunch man!!
....and I....don’t want to fall in love... but all of us already have with your tone, playing, and advice. Thank you for being so gracious to share your techniques and tips with everyone. Truly, you are a blessing for all to enjoy!
Ha! Nice one! Thanks a bunch man!! More to come..
sounds awesome man!
sagig72 Thanks man!!
JOHN MCKENZIE from Ontario ca you are the most honest down to earth guitar player/Instructor I have ever seen ,l like your stile your technique and your touch. Keep doing what you love thanks for sharing all this information love your generosity that special light
This middle aged Classic Rock fan from Michigan absolutely enjoys your channel. Thanks for sharing man.
Michael P Thanks man!!!
The middle aged classic rock, blues, metal, country, jazz, fusion, classical, funk, bluegrass, balkan, celtic and etc fan from California also enjoys your channel. Thanks for sharing GT, and thanks to all the other fans who make his channel possible too.
I think living in a time where there are soo many choices we sometimes get stuck in a rabbit hole of chasing tone. I think that hinders some and I speak from experience. I realized that buying pedals and such I will set them up to sound virtually the same. Once realized I settled on a setup and started playing. Amazing my progress once this realization came about.
Keep it coming GT. Love ya man.
Gary Jarvis I totally agree! Thanks a bunch man!! 😎👍🎶
Never thought about it that way, every overdrive pedal im trying to get to the same tone virtually anyway lol some have a little more compression and mids though, some dont.
great video, can watch you play for hours !
Hey Guthrie! No kidding I was scrubbing the dishes after dinner last night and I thought; "Where is that Guthrie Trapp fella? I hope he's ok." Ha! So happy to see you back man. And as another viewer commented, please don't worry about us, we're here. You need to just keep taking care of business over there - we understand (And we're rooting for you) . But hey, when you do have time, we're always grateful to see these videos. I'm still working my way through your ArtistWorks program. You would be proud of my progress. Out for now! ~Joe
Well thanks a bunch man!! More to come for sure. I'm back in business!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video Guthrie, thank you! Your approach to getting a good tone is very similar to mine - everything builds from a good clean tone! I also love your approach to the gain stages/levels. I never liked multi channel amps because it's hard to get a good, seamless sound when switching from one to the other. It feels like you're jumping from thing to another, instead of just getting more gain/compression. It's kind of hard to put into words.
Hear Pal Here Thanks a bunch man!! I agree.. I think thats the right approach for most things. 👍😎🎶
