The Total Solar Eclipse from a Drone Perspective!

- I had hoped to capture the line of darkness approaching across the ground, but we clouded over immediately before totality. However, by fluke, you can actually see the huge disk of the umbra totality in the clouds! This video is speeded up 5x.
BTW, I put the drone up, started it recording, then enjoyed the eclipse from the ground, ready to deal with the drone if necessary, but otherwise just let it sit up there. Camera was on auto, with no ND filter.
And the thumbnail is a partial eclipse of a cookie.....hey, it was a party!

I was watching it from Dunnville - someone else had a small drone up too.
Nice to see Don. I am regretting not making the drive to New Brunswick to capture totalily. We had a great view with a clear sky here but only reached about 95% coverage, so still quite bright.
Thanks Dave. While the eclipse was very cool, I really didn't find it life changing. I'm glad I had the chance to get together with my family for the event though!

I'm working on my observation vid, but I made the classic mistake and missed the beads with then camera- DOH...but I caught them with my shielded eyes! I was on a very tiny islet in the St Lawrence and it was magnificent!

Cool... for us, all clouded in Barrie this afternoon, I ran a time lapse (GoPro) on the way into town and back out, just parsing the video now to see if its any good... it got dim enough for the street lights to come on, but it was all rather a snore of an event sadly... thanks for sharing your experience.

Odd....what can you not see? If you're looking for the 'dark disk', think 100km across! Its nearly the whole screen

What ND filter do you use for a shot like that? LOL
Since I wasn't shooting the sun, and it was going to get dark, I took off all filters and put it on automatic.
Makes sense considering the range of exposures in the shot
