As an American, Operation PBSuccess was sinister. What the CIA did was evil:
“Indigenous groups, deprived of land since the Spanish conquest, were major beneficiaries of the decree. In addition to raising agricultural output by increasing the cultivation of land, the reform is credited with helping many Guatemalans find dignity and autonomy.[4][5] The expropriation of land led major landowners-including the United Fruit Company-to lobby the United States government to intervene by construing the Guatemalan government as communist.”

The intervention in Guatemala was essentially a reinstatement of the Monroe Doctrine, in that the United States demonstrated that it would do anything to prevent the Central American apple cart from being upset.
But in Guatemala it wasn't an apple cart. It was a banana wagon, a big one, operated by the United Fruit Company. At stake were tens of thousands of acres of farm land that allegedly was taken from the natives and a substantial number of U.S. dollars invested in the crops.
While the threat of the rise of communism in Guatemala was certainly real, it did not prompt the reaction from the United States government and the CIA. Rather, it was a convenient cover for the intervention.
Had the Dulles brothers not had such a stranglehold on our State Department and the CIA, America might have been able to work with the new Guatemalan administration. But the sword is always faster than the pen.
The United States would do this again in Central America, protecting U.S. "interests," and would go on to create the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba.
BTW, those United Fruit Company bananas? They're now better known as Chuquita.

      Not really.
The local elites were narrow-minded and very little capital was available for investment in Education, Health Care, Industry, etc.
Looking at Brazil today, close to 40 million people live bellow the poverty line.
And yet, the Country is filthy rich:
Gold Mines, abundant Oil Fields, rich mineral ressources, an huge agro-business, zillions of cattle-farmer unities, etc.
Neverthless, the Country keeps going down the drain, with millions seeking a better life all over the World.
The small Elite is Blind, and opposed to change.
One of the most important indicators, is the Infant Mortality Rate -- not very different from the shocking numbers typical of most African countries.
In the 20s, Argentina's GOP was comparable to the USA -- since then, Argentina has been in a vertiginous free-fall.
Surprisingly, people in these countries claim that an Economic Alliance with China and Russia will be the answer.
Probably not the solution -- China's behaviour in Africa and some Asian nations has been appalling.

👉👉 11,00 Some of the methods that the united states did hier is same as what they did it in Iran, but with the help of their ally England! They supported the khomeini's revolution in Iran! One of the psychological warfare that they used against Iranian was done by England, they build a radio station in Iraq and the BBC began broadcasting the massages of Khomeini to Iran! Actually BBC was the voice of khomeini's circle which based in France in that time! BBC took that responsibility, and many times on their radio transmitter they announced that for example next day Khomeini asked people to gather in this or that street! BBC many times before the fake revolution, they compared a monster like Khomeini to Mahatma Ghandi!!!! The replacing the Shah, the best allies of the west with the regime of Ayatollah's brought wars and destruction to this region! All because of the interests of the western powers and also Russia and later china!

One other noteworthy fact. Young Ernesto 'Che" Guevara, a young Argentinian doctor recently arrived in Guatemala during this CIA-engineered coup had witnessed everything firsthand. This made such an impression on him that he volunteered for an anti-CIA militia and worked as a doctor to help the locals. He later became a close confidant of Fidel Castro and the rest is history. US has never been able to gain a foothold in Cuba since the pro-American military dictator was ousted by the forces led by Che and Fidel. So, far from "The End of History", history moves in curious ways.
