I lost $100 in the NYC coin scam in The 80's The show the conmen put on was SO CLEVER and true performance art. I have been telling the story ever since...worth EVERY PENNY! They don't make scams like this anymore!!! 😱
Mabel's dogs were more than likely killed by someone living within 4 miles. Shouldn't have been hard to flush them out. Wait a six months and start a fake petition to introduce a noise ordinance, or a fake proposal for a county animal control kennel to be built nearby. Go door to door with the petition, and pay attention to the people who don't own dogs who are also overly supportive of the fake ordinance / petition or more than normal opposed to a county pound. Start interviewing those people. No doubt they will say something threatening about the noise from Mabel's kennel.
Definitely my first thought was a ticked off neighbor. "Quiet or else" I mean come on. Who else could also go around the neighborhood to do all this and not be noticed as an outsider. Especially back then.
Bob likely killed Kay. Even though his wife was brutally murdered, he showed no emotion during the interview. All the arrows pointed to him. The marital problems, the business failing, the inheritance, his history of greed (and prison time), the last person to have seen her, and so on-Bob did it.
Solved. New information from viewers led authorities to arrest and indict Bob for Kay's murder in January 1990. One of the most damning pieces of evidence involved his friend, William Carter. Carter had shot his wife at their home and immediately drove to another house that they owned and made a phone call to establish an alibi. His wife survived, however, and he was convicted of attempted murder. Authorities believe that Bob got the idea to kill Kay and return home and make the phone call from Carter's actions; the attempted murder took place just two months prior to her death. It was determined that Bob had approximately twenty minutes to find and kill Kay. It was believed that it would not have been too difficult for him to find her, as she was found on a dead-end road not far from the country club, in the opposite direction from which they would normally drive home. He had also previously lived in the area and was familiar with it. Shortly after Kay's death, Bob was told that she had died in an accident. However, he was not told how she died. About an hour later, an investigator came to his home. He told the investigator that she had died after being run over by a truck; at that time, he should not have known this information. He had also made incriminating statements to investigators, virtually confessing to "accidentally" killing her. He also said that he wanted to burn down his house for insurance money and "make it look like an accident, just like this accident" (referring to her death). Just a week before her death, she had also told a friend that he had read a mystery book and told her that he was going to create "the perfect murder". Evidence in Kay's truck showed that a struggle had taken place there. Bruises were also found on her body which were determined to have been caused by human hands. Her injuries were also not consistent with ones that would be expected if she had fallen and been run over accidentally. An engineer also testified that the truck's brakes were applied as she was being run over. Skid marks on the road and her body indicated that she had been run over at a high rate of speed. In July 1990, Bob was convicted of Kay's murder and sentenced to twenty years in prison. In early 1992, he appealed his conviction and was given a second trial. A judge shortened his sentence to time served in exchange for his guilty plea to second-degree murder; he was given fifteen years probation and was released. unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Kay_Hall

Did they ever catch the evil bastard(s) who did this to Mabel and her animals??? So upset, she dedicated her life to rescuing animals, and this is the thanks she received. I just...there are no words. It sickens me.
Hoarders are the real animal abusers. Also those are grown dogs who can actually fend for themselves really well, not puppies. She took capable animals and shoved them into cages. I'm not excusing the degenerate arsonist, but had she not been hoarding dogs, there would've been nothing to set fire to.
Hold on, its a 15mile distance and it takes u at least 17minutes to cross that at "pursuit speed"..whats that, between 50 and 55mphs? Ok. And how does nobody take into account the adrenaline rush the killer likely would have felt; and during which time it would have also likey caused him to speed, making it completely possible for him to have gotten away with commiting the murder.
Don't think people are quite getting the boat thing. The mystery isn't why anyone might have buried that guy Scott (because he was dead) but what the hell so much of his remains were doing 2,000 miles away from the boat's point of departure, in a good enough state to warrant burial. (Bodies tend to decompose in water, y'all.) That and whether one of his pals buried him, and where that pal may have gone. As for theorising about what the paper was etc.--these guys are forensics experts. They know more than we do about this stuff before they get out of bed. Also, am I alone in finding Mabel's dog thing suspicious? Reminds me of the nurse in Canada who complained for years about a mystery assailant when all the forensic evidence suggested she herself was carrying out the attacks, on herself, right until she ended up dead in a ditch. That case sounded like an extreme case of Munchausen's syndrome to me, all the more so since she was a nurse (healthcare professionals are overrepresented among people with Munchausen's) and considered to be such a good girl by her prim and proper parents and so on. I wonder if she didn't just lack any healthy way to get attention, for herself. I wonder whether Mabel or someone close to her wasn't a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic.
You mean Cindy James. I've never been sympathetic toward animal hoarders myself. Hoarders are the real animal abusers. Those are grown dogs who can actually fend for themselves really well. She took capable animals and shoved them into cages. Had she not been hoarding dogs, there would've been nothing to set fire to.
Are you talking about the one where she some how drugged herself then ended up across town on foot when literally no human could withstand that drugging and sit up let alone walk? I feel like you're dismissing every piece of "weird" in that story to come up with that ending. If it's the same one.
“Who buried Scott Mormon and why?” Well Mr Mr Stack, I suppose his friends from the boat buried him, and likely because he was dead. Hope that helps you with your mystery. Cheers.

Im curious to see an update on those coins. I bet that indian penny is real and worth more now. Just seems plausible because it was the least assuming coin in the group and for a penny to be worth .50 cents back when this episode aired, which was already a significant percent increase in value. (I dont kno the exact numbers of how much of an increase) And considering the condition it could have been in, as well as the popularity of that particular kind of coin, or even the popularity of coin collecting in general, as well as the many other details involved with coin collecting, there is definitely something to that penny. Although, it could be a completely fabricated coin too. I am aware of the wheat-back penny and the indian-head/buffalo nickel, and that there have been quite a few different versions of coins in circulation in American history. Yes, this is curious.
What’s funny to me is that those two police sketches of the lady who kidnapped the baby at the end, looked absolutely nothing like the actual kidnapper! Not even a resemblance! Glad she was caught anyway though!
