CBS Radio MYSTERY THEATRE is a radio drama series created and directed by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982. Later in the early 2000s the show was repeated by the NPR satellite feed.
The format was similar to that of classic old time radio shows like The Mysterious Traveler and The Whistler, in that the episodes were introduced by host E. G. Marshall who provided pithy wisdom and commentary throughout. Unlike the hosts of those earlier programs, Marshall is fully mortal, merely someone whose heightened insight and erudition plunge the listener into the world of the macabre.
CBS Radio MYSTERY THEATRE was broadcast each weeknight, at first with a new program each night. Later in the run, three or four episodes were new originals each week, and the remainder repeats. There were 1,399 original episodes.

I'm in my 40s I just found this channel I like mystery drama stories
I liked listening to these as a teenager in the mid 70s..
I wish I'd had them when I was a teen, in the '70's. I was born in '57, and grew up watching Twilight Zone, Hitchcock, Outer Limits, etc, and heard from my family about the various radio shows they'd listen to. I don't think we had enough radio stations here, to even play shows like these. I remember them talking about The Shadow, and hearing their soaps first on the radio, but after everyone got a TV, it changed everything, even if it was a B&W TV for a long time. I like being able to keep listening to the stories without having to watch a screen, and I can drift off to sleep if it's time. I've listened to most everything here now. Hahaha

i was born in the 70's even so i never heard of these before now , however I am thoroughly enjoying them , i was listening to rain and or thunderstorms at night to fall asleep ,NOW I LISTEN TO THESE ,THANK YOU FOR CREATING THIS CHANNEL !
As good as the original RMT plays are I’d love for someone to use a cast of present day actors and producers/directors and perform some of them again. Quite often when an old idea is resurrected it proves that once the original cast is either too old or dead to reproduce the play or movie using a new cast the brilliance of the original shines even brighter. It is thanks to the recording of the original productions still existing and someone being willing to upload them to sites like RUclips for those of us born years after they were first broadcast and those who heard them first time round listen to and enjoy them again. A great big thank you to the folks responsible for uploading these little gems from the past… 🙌🏻 👱🏻♂️

Love listening to these radio programs, however, I do have a beef! CBSRMT is notorious for the most irritating, over-done background sound effects - especially howling wind and animal noises. It is monotonous and distracting and in far too many instances it actually makes it difficult to hear and concentrate on the dialog. Several times I've found myself skipping episodes due to this annoyance. Fortunately, there is a whopping total of 1,399 episodes to weed through!
It is obvious that you do not like background sound effects that were common in these programs.
