Nice to you see you again Phil....we had tons of sessions with you on your awesome webinars with Sound United during 2020/2021...back in the day when we were all at home... :)
I have the crl 2500 center with a powered 8 inch sub and by far is the best center I've ever heard. The 8 just gives the center that extra punch every other center lacks.
I absolutely love Def Tech. I had an issue with one of my 9080Xs cabinets. It was causing an issue where bass was causing a lot of vibration coming through. It took them a while but they just shipped me 2 DM80s and a pair of DM90s to replace my BP9080Xs despite only having an issue with one tower. Absolute legends. I'm glad to hear that they're fixing issues with the cabinets and amps as I know a lot of people had issues with those in the 9080x despite me not actually having that problem. I'll be upgrading my center channel with the DM30 as well.
Got the DM70s with DM30 and DM95 last week. They sound awesome. Pair them with Marantz cinema 40, Emotiva & Peachtree GaN400 . Big upgrade from my bp8060 and Denon 1500H.
Yeah I have the 9000 series, they are great except the Amps have serious issues, they always fail at some point. Both of my towers have failed, both subs no longer work. It’s ok tho, I have an svs sub
Fronts BP7001, rears BP7002 paried with Marantz SR7013 and Emotiva XPA-5 GEN3 the speakers are 20 plus years old and still kicking! In the Master Bedroom BP7006 same gig still kicking. Never have had an issue with the Amps.
I used to sell GaN FETs. The advantage to them is very low gate capacitance of the FET. This is great for class D designs. This allows the FET to turn on and off much faster since the voltage level of the gate can change faster due to this low capacitance. Class D relies on the FET being all the way one and all the way off for varying amounts of time. Operating the FET in the linear range is not desirable in a Class D. (when the FET is going on or off this is the linear range).
It’s so cool to see speakers with bipolar phase control, that opens up a whole world of really interesting things. I also can really appreciate the notion of having all the mid and tweeter’s the exact same driver, best to start with everything perfectly balanced to begin with rather than using DSP to tweak your center channel’s response to match your towers. I do enjoy the compact feel of these speakers too, they don’t impose on the room with harsh edges. The pricing on those surrounds was a little shocking at $800 a pair. One would hope that’s not the actual real world price but rather pre-sale pricing, so they can sell them for a fat discount as allot of brands do. I’m just glad I don’t work in marketing and have to rationalize to myself pricing disingenuously high just to keep up with marketplace norms. Everything everywhere is always on sale, does anyone pay full retail for anything? With somethings you have to, especially shortages. I actually think nows a good time to buy hard to get items. Allot of cutting edge new stuff or rare vintage stuff falls into that category. Allot of good receivers have been in short supply. It wouldn’t surprise me if speakers experienced disruptions too. Prices of magnets, copper, and wood can easily fluctuate. It’s taken me several years of camping the used market to get matching tower speakers at steep discounts. There’s allot of good reasons to just buy a whole brand new system, but watch out for the upsell of convincing yourself you want yet another pair of atmos or surrounds when a 5.4 is already sweet. Thankfully with a wall mounted side surround, you can always get another pair later. Ceiling upgrades are a little more daunting, but everything great is worth doing well.
Hi audioholics, center channel seems most impressive to me from the line up. Because it sounds most challenging to do right: 4 horizontal mid woofers (more crossovers to fight beaming?) and passive radiators (bigger group delay to work with). Would love to see measurements of it. Keep it real guys.
I really want the towers but have had my 4- BP7004's all fail sadly with no replacement amps available. Think I am going to call Def Tech and check on their plans for replacement amps before I go further.
Can I ask a question and pertaining to my speakers ...... I built a sub with Four 6 inches in it do you think there's going to be a simulation to a 12 inches

Very interesting to learn about these new definitives, but I really struggle with this style of interview. Interviewer takes way too much space in this interview for my taste.
Man would I love to have these in my living room right now. They are badass. Nice to see Phil again. He is a legend indeed.

First time i saw Phil was in the r700 discussions with Polk. I didnt realize Phil was so tall lol.
I wouldn't mind having that setup in my living room.
Great video guys, I recently found Phil's training company videos on YT, I've learned a lot from them and AH! 👍
I need the 60’s!!! Love Def Tech
Great towers! I'm still rocking a pair of bp2002.

Is the dm 70s sound better then the pb8060s how’s the bass on the DM70s
@@chet9055 100% better
Great video guys, but I did not realise how tall Phill was.... won't want to mess with him..😲😂
The real question is when will there be if ever another BP7000sc
I have friends with a full setup of the older series. They make good quality stuff and the sound is very good for home theater.

@@Jasheon that's a bummer. I haven't visited their place in awhile due to COVID and haven't heard they had any trouble.

I am (3) in so far, two DM60s (surround back), one DM30. I am totally happy with them. Eventually I will replace my L/R with DM70s.

I really hope they have improved the reliability of the amplifiers.
Thanks! looking forward to some reviews of these bad boys.
James Larson is reviewing the DM70s.
@@Audioholics awesome! Looking forward to it
@@Audioholics That's great Gene & hopefully James can get around to reviewing Def Tech's Descend DN12 subwoofer too shortly ;)

These speakers break at a totally unacceptable rate and DefTech doesn’t give a crap when it does
Question, and thanks for sharing the video. My question is how does these sound compared to the Arendals or Perlisten?
Phil Johnes should know that we need 8805 class product with Tone Winner price range. Thats all.

Rocking some BP 9040 right now. New models really pricy

@@Audioholics Thank you! Best wishes, - Rob
Does anybody know what's the total SPL for DM80s is?
You would think by now DT would get rid of the cloth wrapped speakers. Ugh, pass....
I didnt like them at first but they are starting to grow on me, leaves a lot of possibilities to decorate/design your room around them
Whats the best crossover for the BP9040's
How many Customers wants a UHD / Blu ray player from Marantz / Denon . Can’t be so difficult. Pass the change to oppo players .
Absolutely! Rocking a bdp-103 and would like a uhd unit of oppo quality

Unfortunately, in 2 - 3 yesrs they will change the product again which is just pain annoying. Mind you not a change in 10 years but 2-3!🤔🤯😳
Too many words and no music!
